A Method For Manufacturing An Improved Water In Oil Emulsion Explosive

Abstract: A method for manufacturing an improved water-in-oil emulsion explosive with higher rigidity and less tackiness is disclosed. The method comprises adding one or more conventional oxidizer salts to a blend consisting of one or more emulsifying agents and a conventional fuel phase and· subjecting the blend to emulsification, wherein prior to the emulsification, from 0.5 to 30% by wt of a reactive, polymerisable monomer is incorporated into the fuel phase to partially or completely replace any conventional carbonaceous oil present in the fuel phase, wherein the monomer is optionally incorporated along with a polymerisation initiator.
