A VALVE RETAINER FOR TUBE TYPE WHEELS
FIELD OF INVENTION
[0001] The embodiment herein generally relates to automobile wheels. More
5 specifically, the invention provides a valve retainer for tube type wheels in order
to prevent valve damage due to caliper profile.
BACKGROUND AND PRIOR ART
[0002] Conventionally, in a vehicle, a tire is mounted onto a wheel and inflated
to recommended pressure. In tubeless wheels, valve stem is fitted to the rim to
10 inflate the tire. A valve stem is a self-contained valve which opens to admit the air
into the chamber and is automatically closed and kept sealed by the pressure in the
chamber to prevent the air from escaping.
[0003] In wheels of utility vehicles, the valve hole lies in the bottom or in the flank of the groove of the rim. The valves of these wheels are such that the stem
15 of the valve runs alongside the interior wall of the rim and extends to the outside
of the vehicle, passing through the opening in the wheel disc.
[0004] In some cases, normally caliper brakes being used only with tubeless wheels in truck & bus segment. If the caliper brakes attached with tube type wheels, then the valve may get damaged due to the stationary part in caliper
20 profile. Hence, the valve may move up and down during motion and that leads to
damage.
[0005] Therefore, there is a need to develop an apparatus for retaining the valve in position for the tube type wheels in order to prevent valve damage due to the caliper profile.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
[00023] The embodiments herein and the various features and advantageous
details thereof are explained more fully with reference to the non-limiting
embodiments and detailed in the following description. Descriptions of well-
20 known components and processing techniques are omitted so as to not
unnecessarily obscure the embodiments herein. The examples used herein are
intended merely to facilitate an understanding of ways in which the embodiments
herein may be practiced and to further enable those of skill in the art to practice
the embodiments herein. Accordingly, the examples should not be construed as
25 limiting the scope of the embodiments herein.
5
[00024] As mentioned above, there is a need to develop an apparatus for retaining
the valve in position to prevent valve damage due to caliper profile. The
embodiments herein achieve this by providing a valve retainer inserted to the
valve stem and attached to the vent hole of the wheel to prevent movement of the
5 valve. Referring now to the drawings, and more particularly to FIGS. 1 through 3,
where similar reference characters denote corresponding features consistently throughout the figures, there are shown preferred embodiments.
[00025] Fig. 1 illustrates a conventional wheel without valve retainer 100, according to the prior art. In the conventional wheel, the vehicle wheel 101
10 comprises of a rim, and a disc. The rim may include but not limited to an outer
flange, an inner flange, an outer bead seat, an inner bead seat, a connecting region for connecting the rim and the disc, a valve, a tube valve 102, a circumferential mounting groove connected between the connecting region and the inner bead seat. The tube valve 102 is connected to the valve stem 104. The valve having a
15 stem 104 is externally projecting outside the disc at a predetermined angle. The
stem 104 of the valve runs alongside the interior wall of the rim and extends to the outside of the vehicle, passing through the opening in the wheel disc. In such cases, usually for tubeless wheels 101 caliper brakes are being used. If the caliper brakes are attached with tube type wheels 101, then, the valve may get damaged
20 due to the stationary part in caliper profile 103. Hence, the valve may move 105
up and down during motion and that leads to damage.
[00026] Fig.2 illustrates a wheel provided with valve retainer 200, according to an embodiment. According to an embodiment, the apparatus for retaining a vehicle wheel 101 valve in position 102 comprising of, a rim, a disc, a valve 102,

6
outer flange, an inner flange, an outer bead seat, an inner bead seat, a connecting
region for connecting the rim and the disc, and a circumferential mounting groove
connected between the connecting region and the inner bead seat. According to an
embodiment, the apparatus further includes a valve retainer. One end of the valve
5 is connected to the stem and other end of the valve is connected to the tire. The
valve 102 having a stem 104 and said stem 104 externally projecting outside the disc at a predetermined angle. According to an embodiment, the stem externally projecting outside said disc at angle of 30◦ to 60◦. According to an embodiment, the valve retainer 202 attached to a vent hole 203 of the wheel 101 and the stem
10 104 is inserted to the valve retainer 202.

15 [00028] According to an embodiment, thickness (d) of the inner well region of
the valve retainer 202 is equal to thickness of the vent hole 203. According to an embodiment, a hole is provided in the centre of the valve retainer 202 for inserting the stem 104. The hole provided at any end of the valve retainer 202 for inserting the stem 104. Fig.3 illustrates an exploded view of the wheel provided with valve
20 retainer 200, according to an embodiment. The valve retainer 202 attaches in line
the line with the vent hole 203 shape.
[00029] Fig. 4 illustrates the position 300 of the valve retainer in the vehicle wheel 101, according to an embodiment. The valve retainer 202 is placed on the vent hole 203 of the wheel 101. Further, the valve retainer 202 made of polymeric
25 material that includes but not limited to rubber and so on. The shape of the valve
7
retainer 202 provided in line with the vent hole 203 shape. Moreover, the valve retainer 202 is easily fixed on to the vehicle wheel 101.
[00030] A main advantage of the present invention is that the provided apparatus
retains the valve in position for the tube type wheels.
5 [00031] Another advantage of the present invention is that the provided valve
retainer is easily fixable on to the vehicle wheel.
[00032] Still another advantage of the present invention is that the provided valve retainer for retains the valve in position in order to prevent valve damage due to the caliper profile.
10 [00033] The foregoing description of the specific embodiments will so fully
reveal the general nature of the embodiments herein that others can, by applying current knowledge, readily modify and/or adapt for various applications such specific embodiments without departing from the generic concept, and, therefore, such adaptations and modifications should and are intended to be comprehended
15 within the meaning and range of equivalents of the disclosed embodiments. It is to
