DESC: FLANGE DESIGN OF VEHICLE WHEEL
FIELD OF INVENTION
[001] The embodiments herein generally relate to a vehicle wheel. More specifically, the embodiments described herein relate to a flange design opposite to lock ring. Particularly, relates to a flange design opposite to lock ring with flange at both sides in order to provide ease removal of tires, ease in manufacture and weight reduction in a vehicle wheel assembly.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[002] A rim is an outer edge of a wheel which is holding a tire. The rim makes up an outer circular design of the wheel. The standard automotive wheel rim is made from a rectangular sheet metal. Here, the sheet metal plate is bent to produce a cylindrical sleeve with the two free edges of the sleeve welded together. Two slopes on the rim permits the rim to hold the tire. In order to support the cylindrical rim structure, a disc is made by stamping the metal plate. Further, a lock ring in a wheel is used to prevent components from becoming loose during rotation.
[003] Rim, lock ring and other parts of the wheel plays an important role in determining the performance of a vehicle. Primarily, size and weight of the wheel matters in the vehicle performance. In general, heavy wheels can reduce performance and wider wheels don’t provide grip. If the weight of the wheel is heavier, then the wheel influences trouble to turn a corner, slow up or accelerate than a lightweight wheel.
[004] A flange is an external or internal ridge for providing strength at the time of attachment to another object in the wheel. Thus flanged wheels are wheels with a flange on one side to keep the wheels from running off.
[005] In prior arts, the rim and the flange are present in a single piece, which provides improper adhesion of the rim to the tire. Removal of tire assembly from the tire is also cumbersome.
[006] On the whole, the existing flange profile reduces performance of the vehicle. Accordingly, the existing wheel rim assembly faces problem which includes weight of the wheel as one of the main complexity in the vehicle wheel assembly. Also, there is a result of crack formation and complication in removal of tires due to the presence of lock ring at one side.
[007] Therefore, there is a need for a flange design opposite to lock ring with modifications to overcome the problem associated with the prior art. Further, there is a need for a flange design opposite to lock ring to reduce weight of the wheel for getting better riding quality. Still there is a need for a flange design opposite to lock ring to afford ease in manufacture and also provides ease removal of tires.
