The following specification describes the invention
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The invention relates to a diet supplement composition and, more particularly to low calorie composite diet supplement comprising mannitol.
BACKGROUND OF THE PRESENT INVENTION
There is a trend toward the use of more and more sweetening by the world's population. Primarily, this sweetening is obtained from sucrose. Sucrose has several medical disadvantages, including high caloric content, which promotes obesity; ability to cause dental caries; and non-tolerance by diabetics. Nonetheless, it is the consumer's sweetener of choice, to standard to which any synthetic alternative must compare. In sum, the ideal synthetic sweetener will taste like sucrose without any extra accompanying tastes or aftertastes.
Possibly because of the major commercial market these products represent or possibly because the nonnutritive sweeteners proposed heretofore have all posed taste, toxicity, or stability problems, there has been a great effort devoted to researching and developing improved sweetener materials.
Ideally, a synthetic sweetener would in taste and stability emulate sucrose, the most commonly employed natural sugar sweetener. Therefore, it would be desirable to provide a sweetening composition with enhanced sweetening power, with good water solubility and with no or minimum menthol or bitter aftertaste effects at the concentration level employed.
Further, it is desirable that this composition has a harmonious sweetness and which additionally provides for nutritional and dietary
wellness of the consumer, and to specify a process for the preparation thereof and use thereof.
