TECHNICAL FIELD
[1] The embodiments described herein are generally directed to turret assemblies for transformers or shunt reactors.
BACKGROUND
[2] A high-energy arc inside a turret or chimney between a high-voltage (“HV”) lead and a housing assembly or tank of a transformer or shunt reactor creates a sudden pressure rise which could result in oil leak, toxic fire, and part projections. For example, transformer major failure between the HV lead to chimney represent about 10% of the cases and 17% of the toxic fires in a 735 kV network. This event is a threat to personal safety, creates environmental concerns, and may lead to commercial loss as well.
US 2012/242443 Al relates to a device for prevention against explosion of an on load tap changer on an electrical transformer. The on load tap changer includes a tank and a cover, the tank including a cooling liquid. The prevention device includes a rupture element provided with tearing zones and with folding zones upon rupture. The rupture element is able to break open when the pressure inside the tank exceeds a predetermined ceiling. The device further includes at least a support member supporting the rupture element, said support member supporting a duct downstream the rupture element, the support element being distinct from the cover.
CN 111 968 829 A describes a containment component which is configured to be connected to an electrical assembly to contain an electrical line and to be filled with a liquid.
The containment component comprises an electrically conductive material and has an open mounting side to be connected to the electrical assembly. The ratio of the surface area to the volume of the containment component is at least 3 m'1, and the ratio of the volume of the containment component to the wall breaking pressure is at least 0.02 m3 MPa'1. The corresponding electrical system is operated in such a way that the containment component absorbs a pressure rise directed into the component box when an arc occurs in the containment component.
