Documents Required for Copyright Registration in India

Copies of your work, personal details like name, address, search certificate (if capable of use on goods) and a POA is required. The documents can be submitted physically at the Copyright Office or via Post. However, there are a few documents which change depending on the category of work.

Identity Proof

Identity Proof

Info Sheet will contain all the details regarding the work you wish to register while any photo ID proof such as PAN Card, Aadhar Card, Voter ID, Passport and Driving License will be required as Identity Proof. 

Artistic Works

  • 2 copies of the work to be registered.
  • Applicable Government fee in the form of a Demand Draft.
  • Search Certificate (TM-60) if the work is to be used on goods.
  • POA if the form is filed by an attorney or authorised agent.
  • No Objection Certificate if, the applicant is not the author/publisher of the work.
Note: Search Certificate notifies the usage of the work and the chances of its registration.

Literary/Dramatic Works

  • 2 copies of the work to be registered.
  • Applicable Government fee in the form of a Demand Draft.
  • POA if the form is filed by an attorney or authorised agent.
  • No Objection Certificate if, the applicant is not the author/publisher of the work.
Note: The POA must be duly signed by the applicant.

Music Works

  • 2 copies of the work to be registered. (music notes)
  • Applicable Government fee in the form of a Demand Draft.
  • POA if the form is filed by an attorney or authorised agent.
  • No Objection Certificate if, the applicant is not the composer/creator of the work.
Note: The proof of the work must be in the form of hard copies along with a soft copy (CD).

Software

  • 2 copies of the work to be registered. (music notes)
  • Applicable Government fee in the form of a Demand Draft.
  • POA if the form is filed by an attorney or authorised agent.
  • Source and Object Code of the work.
  • No Objection Certificate if, the applicant is not the creator of the work.
Note: NOC can be issued by the legal heirs if the creator is deceased.

Cinematograph Films

  • 2 copies of the work to be registered. (music notes)
  • Applicable Government fee in the form of a Demand Draft.
  • POA if the form is filed by an attorney or authorised agent.
  • No Objection Certificate if, the applicant is not the author/publisher of the work.
Note: When there are multiple contributions in work, a deed of assignment is required from the people involved.

Sound Recordings

  • 2 copies of the work to be registered. (music notes)
  • Applicable Government fee in the form of a Demand Draft.
  • POA if the form is filed by an attorney or authorised agent.
  • No Objection Certificate if, the applicant is not the composer/ creator of the work.
  • A deed of agreement from various copyright holders.
Note: The CD must not contain any obscene material.
