Download e-PAN Card

The Indian Income Tax Department issues a Permanent Account Number (PAN). It consists of a 10-digit alphanumeric code. 

The e-PAN card was introduced recently, which enables taxpayers to easily carry out various financial transactions and also helps the Income Tax Department track transactions and ensure taxes are paid correctly and timely. It is a virtual alternative to a physical PAN card. The government has introduced this service to ease the process for the people applying for the same. This facility is provided on a first-come-first-serve basis. 

What are the eligibility criteria to apply for the e-PAN card?

Eligibility criteria to apply for an e-PAN card:

  • One must be a resident of India.
  • One must be an individual taxpayer.
  • One must possess an updated Aadhar card.
  • One must have an active mobile number linked to your Aadhar card. 
  • One must not be a PAN holder already.

What does an e-PAN card consists of>

The E-PAN card consists of the following details:

  • 10 digit permanent account number,
  • QR code,
  • Name of the applicant,
  • Father’s name of the applicant,
  • Date of birth of the applicant,
  • Gender of the applicant,
  • Photograph of the applicant and
  • Signature of the applicant*

E-PAN cards can be applied and downloaded online through portals, namely, NSDL and UTIITSL. The steps that are required to be followed to download the e-PAN card are:

For first-time applicants-

  • First, the application form is required to be filled along with details and supporting documents, i.e., Proof of Identity (POI) and Proof of Address (POA). The supporting documents have to be sent by courier/post to NSDL/UTIITSL.
  • After completing the application form, a pop-up will appear asking whether the e-PAN card is required or a physical PAN card. 
  • The charges for applying for e-PAN are - Rs. 66 for Indian communication address as well as foreign communication address. 
  • Prior to submission, terms and conditions must be agreed upon and a captcha must be entered.
  • Once submitted, an e-PAN card will be received on the concerned e-mail ID within 10-15 days.
  • e-PAN cards are received in PDF form which can be downloaded and printed.

For applicants with existing PAN cards-

  • In this case, the e-PAN card can be applied with an acknowledgment number, date of birth, permanent account number, or aadhar card number. All of these options may be selected in order to apply for the same.
  • Prior to submission, terms and conditions must be agreed upon and a captcha must be entered. If the e-PAN card is applied with aadhar card number then a one-time password (OTP) is received on the registered mobile number which is required to be entered before submission.
  • The charges for applying for e-PAN are - Rs. 66 for Indian communication address as well as foreign communication address. 
  • Once submitted, an e-PAN card will be received on the concerned e-mail ID within 30 days.
  • E-PAN cards are received in PDF form which can be downloaded and printed.
