Abstract: The present invention provides an obstruction detection system [100], to detect at least one obstruction [140] on a road, which includes a plurality of roadside units [110], and a plurality of obstruction detection units [120]. Each of the plurality of obstruction detection units [120], comprising a RADAR sensing unit [125], an indicator unit [130], and a processing unit [135], is employed on each of the plurality of roadside units [110]. The RADAR sensing unit [125] captures one or more doppler images [146] of a portion of the road, sends it to the processing unit [135] to perform an on-board comparison with a pre-saved doppler image [145] to detect the presence/absence of the at least one obstruction [140] on the road; and sends an activation signal to the indicator unit [130] to generate a warning signal to warn commuters [160] upon detection of presence of the at least one obstruction [140].
