CLAIM OF PRIORITY

The present patent application takes priority from Indian Patent Application Number 202321031752 filed on 04 May 2023 and postdated to 04 Nov 2023, titled “MULTI-PURPOSE STAND AND FINGER GRIP FOR HANDHELD DEVICES”.
TECHNICAL FIELD
The present disclosure relates to the field of easier holding and disposition of handheld devices. More particularly, the present disclosure relates to providing a holder for the handheld device for improving physical dexterity while using the handheld device and a stand for deploying the handheld device in a vertical or horizontal orientation for ‘hands-free’ usage, including while driving or viewing, without falling off. The holder includes a storage section integrated within a kickstand assembly, which enables storage of SIM cards, memory cards and SIM ejector pins, among other small essential items. The storage section is designed to be compact, lightweight, and easily accessible, providing enhanced utility for users of handheld devices.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
The use of portable handheld devices has proliferated society in recent years. The number of applications and functions available for use on such devices continue to increase, necessitating increasingly more handling time by the user.
Current handheld devices, such as cellular telephones, personal digital assistants, and gaming consoles, have a number of keypads, touch screens or trackballs and the like. These handheld devices continue to become increasingly popular and widespread. As technology advances, the size and weight of handheld devices reduces. While using such sleek and lightweight handheld devices, it is not uncommon for the device to slip from a user's hand and drop to ground, and be damaged in the process. Moreover, because of the compactness of modern handheld devices, it is not uncommon for user's to experience Repetitive Stress Injuries (RS) resulting from operating keyboards and the like, particularly by young people “texting” tens if not hundreds of messages daily. Further, it is difficult to hold the device with a single hand while typing or keying or otherwise operating the device with the user's thumb.
There are currently many mounting systems available for handheld devices, especially smartphones. Methods typically employed for securing the smart phones to a mount include clamps, magnets, or sticky pads. Clamping the smart phone on edge, between two surfaces, results in limited accessibility to the buttons typically placed around the periphery of the smartphone, and a portion of the clamp typically protrudes beyond the plane of the smartphone’s screen, again limiting access to the smart phone’s screen. Clamps are also limited in a range that they can open and close, making them incompatible with many devices. The clamps also create a physical challenge when engaging the smartphone that is difficult to overcome with one hand. Available magnetic mounts are easier to operate one-handed and with little physical dexterity; however they don't offer a physical capture of the mobile device, which makes it more susceptible to being knocked off mount by shock or vibration.
WO2019178594 discloses a phone grip attachment that includes a base configured for attachment to a phone and a finger-hold attached to the base. The finger-hold has a top member and a bottom member. The finger-hold is movable between an extended position in which an opening is defined between the top member and the bottom member for use in gripping the phone and a collapsed position in which the top member is substantially flat against the bottom member. The finger-hold can be biased to the extended position. The finger-hold can be rotatably attached to the base.
KR1020140131425 relates to a mobile phone case having a mount, and a mobile phone mount. More specifically, a mount means is arranged on the mobile phone case to enable a user to easily stand the mobile phone on the ground as needed without carrying an additional mount. A mount part is arranged on a back side of the mobile phone case.
KR102214109 relates to a grip integrated mobile phone case capable of providing a slim and neat design by integrally forming a grip, which supports a mobile phone or is held by a hand, and the case, the mobile phone case comprising a case body having a base sheet for forming an accommodating groove on a surface and a grip plate which is extended to the accommodating groove of the case body with an extending pipe and is gripped with a finger when being discharged to the surface of the base sheet. The case body includes an inside body which is made of elastic and stretchable resin to protect the mobile phone from impact, and an outside body which includes impact resistance to surround the inside body. A finger hole is formed in both sides of the accommodating groove by putting the finger of a user to hold both edge sides of the grip plat and discharge the same.
WO2017034472 discloses a stand for a mobile phone, the stand comprising: a plate configured to be removably attached to a back of a mobile phone or phone casing; a support panel having a first end and a second end, the first end configured to pivotably engage a lower edge of the plate about a first axis and the second end configured to rest on a surface on which the stand and the mobile phone are placed when the stand is attached to the mobile phone; an adjustment leg having a pivoting end and an engagement end, the pivoting end configured to pivotably engage an upper edge of the plate about a second axis and the engagement end configured to releasably and selectably engage the support panel at one of a plurality of engagement locations provided along a length of the support panel.
CN218352535 provides a multiple cell-phone grudging post structure that expands, the grudging post includes a bottom part and at least two lifts, the bottom part is made and is located at the back of the cell-phone or at the back of cell-phone’s protective cover. The at least two lifts pin joint in the bottom part, can lift by an angle, with two at least different lift pin joints of length in the pin joint of different corresponding interactive shaft pivots, do the multiple coplanar fold, expand into different angles according to length, longer lift can the interlock with shorter lift expand by same angle, and shorter lift can hide on longer lift.
Particularly, for use of mobile phone while driving, the numerable stands generally available hold the phone across its width, inadvertently pressing several buttons currently provided on either side. Also, such stands are usable only for NOT holding the “hand-held” devices!
Therefore, a complementary accessory and mounting mechanism is needed that enhances the user's grip on the handheld device and enables the user to hold the device while permitting the user to maintain physical dexterity and access the device’s periphery buttons or applications and a stand mechanism to enhance the usage and viewing of the handheld device in a vertical or horizontal orientation, including when driving.

OBJECT OF INVENTION

SUMMARY OF INVENTION
A multi-purpose stand and holder is being described as a preferred embodiment for contemporary smart phones, however, the concept is not limited thereto and is equally effectively applicable for all handheld devices. Further, while the smart phone is shown largely as a rectangular slice or a cuboid, devices of any external shape and appearance can be catered to by the present invention including spheroids.
The present invention integratedly facilitates
- to securely retain the handheld device in a palm with one finger,
- to place the handheld device on a flat surface of a static object, in multiple orientations,
- to entrap the handheld device in an orthogonal orientation of a moving object like a car, and or
- to securely store essential micro ancillaries of the handheld device such as a SIM card, a memory cards and or a SIM ejector pin.

The multi-purpose stand and holder comprises a
- a base assembly
- a flexible grip arrangement
- a hingable stand arrangement
- a storage arrangement
As shall be clear in the detailed description read with drawings, above arrangements and assemblies are constructed interdependently to arrive at an exceptional aesthetics and ergonomics with minimum parts and minimum material, therefore cost and carbon print. The wearable parts are easily replaceable, further adding to non-obvious economic significance in the product. The product itself prevents damage to the held device by preempting falling possibilities and still further adds to economic significance, which is often compromised to fit in more features independent of one another!
The multi-purpose stand and holder has a uniformly slender idle thickness, that is, when the stand and holder is not is use. The hingable stand arrangement has a coordinated in-use thickness commensurate with intra-finger gap in human fingers, the hingable stand arrangement toggles between an idle position and an in-use position, the flexible grip arrangement and the hingable stand arrangement are configured to collectively form a non-falling holder in a human palm.
The flexible grip arrangement comprises a grip strap made of an elastic material including an engineering thermoplastic material The grip strap has at least a first anchoring receptacle and a second anchor receptacle. The first anchoring receptacle is engaged on a fixed anchor post and the second anchoring receptacle is engaged on a rotating anchor post. The grip strap is flat in shape when the fixed anchor post and the rotating anchor post are co-planer, and takes an arch shape when the rotating anchor post is non-coplanar with respect to the fixed anchor post, the grip strap consequently forming a tunnel for inserting a cylindroid object including a human finger.
The modular nature of the configuration of the invention allows for easy changeability of the grip strap as per the grip strap of a desired colour and graphic print, and replacing a worn out grip strap. In the preferred embodiment, anchoring receptacle is essentially a loop commensurate with a hook design amongst many possibilities of conceptualizing any anchor post over which the loop is easily put on, exploiting its flexibility, like an elastic band.
The hingable stand arrangement comprises a main hingable plate, a torsion spring, a fulcrum pin. The main hingable plate has a first hingable end and a far end. The main hingable plate has a recess for securely keeping ancillaries relatable to the handheld device whereon the multi-purpose stand and holder is disposed. The recess has a partition to elegantly place the SIM ejector pin, not meddling with the additional SIM card or memory card stored adjacently. There is provided a first trapping arrangement and a second trapping arrangement for a cover. A complementary lockable device is disposed near the far end. The first hingable end is rotatably hinged with the base assembly.
In the preferred embodiment, the hingable stand arrangement toggles between an idle position and an in-use position system, consequent to the torsion spring throwing away the main hingable plate as soon as a locking mechanism is unlocked manually; however, the concept is not limited to between two positions. As a variation, the hingable stand arrangement allows the main hingable plate to be locked at a desired interim position, forming a plurality of discretionary angle of 30, 45, 75 degrees with the base assembly.
A storage arrangement comprises a cover to be disposed on the recess of the main hingable plate, thereby forming a storage room. The cover has a first trappable projection and a second trappable projection that respectively engages with the first trapping arrangement and the second trapping arrangement of the main hingable plate.
The storage arrangement is incorporated into the hingable stand arrangement (150) in a manner that does not interfere with the functionality of the hingable stand arrangement. The storage arrangement is integrated within the hingable stand assembly such that it is accessible even when the product in in use position, thereby providing users with convenient access to their stored items.
In the preferred embodiment, the fixed anchor post is provided on an equalizer which receives the first anchoring receptacle of the grip strap. Introduction of equalizer though avoidable, reduces unequal thickness, curing time, therefore tooling cost of the platform and this non-obvious construction is another illustration of several economic significance aspects built in the present invention.
The base assembly comprises a platform with a front base surface and a rear base surface. The front base surface entraps a fulcrum pin. The rear base surface entraps a locking device. In the preferred embodiment, it is a thin cylindrical magnet.
The locking device in the base assembly and the complementary lockable device in the hingable stand arrangement forms a robust locking mechanism that holds the hingable stand arrangement “flat” in the idle position, preventing it from accidentally rotating to the in-use position, unless a reasonable separating force is applied by user. The reasonable separating force is preferably a pull force on an extended length of the hingable stand arrangement, providable through a clearance between the hingable stand arrangement and the platform. The extended length is a conscious construction incorporated to overcome the otherwise relatively strong magnetic force provided for a fail-safe locking which would NOT unlock accidently.
The first anchor post can also be provided on the platform, in which case, the equalizer is obviated.
The rear base surface is provided with an adhesive layer that robustly attaches the multi-purpose stand and holder to the handheld device. As a variation, the rear base surface is provided with a magnetic layer. The association of the multi-purpose stand and holder with the handheld device is not limited thereto, as further variation are described later.
As a variation, the hingable stand arrangement comprises the main hingable plate, a plurality of torsion springs, a plurality of fulcrum pins, and an auxiliary hingable plate. The main hingable plate has a first hingable end and a far end. The main hingable plate has a recess for securely keeping ancillaries relatable to the handheld device whereon the multi-purpose stand and holder is disposed. There is provided a first trapping arrangement and a second trapping arrangement. A complementary lockable device is disposed in vicinity of the far end. The first hingable end is rotatably hinged with the base assembly.
The storage arrangement comprises a cover that securely fits onto the main hingable plate. The cover has a first trappable projection and a second trappable projection that respectively engages with the first trapping arrangement and the second trapping arrangement of the main hingable plate. The cover also has a hingable end at the second trappable projection.
The auxiliary hingable plate is rotatably hinged with the hingable end of the cover. A second torsion spring keeps the auxiliary hingable plate at an engageable angle with respect to the man hingable plate.
As another variation, the hingable stand arrangement comprises main hingable plate, a plurality of torsion springs, a plurality of fulcrum pins, and an auxiliary hingable plate. The main hingable plate has a first hingable end and a second hingable end. The main hingable plate has a recess for securely keeping ancillaries relatable to the handheld device whereon the multi-purpose stand and holder is disposed. There is provided a first trapping arrangement and a second trapping arrangement. A complementary lockable device is disposed near the second hingable end.
The first hingable end is rotatably hinged with the base assembly, while the second hingable end has the auxiliary hingable plate rotatably hinged thereon.
The cover has a first trappable projection and a second trappable projection that respectively engages with the first trapping arrangement and the second trapping arrangement of the main hingable plate.
The auxiliary hingable plate is rotatably hinged with the second hingable end of the main hingable plate. A second torsion spring keep a the auxiliary hingable plate at an engageable angle with respect to the man hingable plate.
When used as a handheld device holder, the auxiliary hingable plate is latently parked between the platform and the handheld device.
When used as a hanging device, the engageable angle of the auxiliary hingable plate is manually collapsed, the auxiliary hingable plate along with the base assembly slidable between a plurality of slim strips or slender rods, the engageable angle restores, the multi-purpose stand and holder is thereby non-fall-ably trapped between slim strips.
As a fourth variation, there is provided a rotatable attachment. The multi-purpose stand and holder further comprises a rotatable attachment comprising a lower disc having a lower face and an upper disc having an upper face, the rotatable attachment is entrapped between the handheld device and a corresponding back cover having an access through which the upper face is attached permanently on the rear base surface of the base assembly, preferably through an adhesive, wherein the lower disc multi-purpose stand and holder rotates. Such a rotatable arrangement facilitates table placement of the multi-purpose stand and holder at any angle.
As another variation the rotatable attachment is detachably and rotatably disposed on the handheld device and attached permanently with the handheld device.
The rotatable attachment in this variation comprises a lower disc having a lower face and an upper disc having an engageable ball arrangement, the rotatable attachment is entrapped between the handheld device and a corresponding back cover having an access through which the upper face is attached rotatably on the rear base surface of the base assembly, wherein the multi-purpose stand and holder rotates. This variation facilitates replacement of the multi-purpose stand and holder, should the multi-purpose stand and holder become defective or inoperative!
