Abstract: Reconstitutable premix for an antimicrobial composition The present invention relates to reconstitutable antimicrobial cleansing composition, formulated to be diluted or reconstituted with water to provide a ready-to-use cleansing composition, such a floor cleaner. Disclosed is a reconstitutable premix for an antimicrobial composition, said premix comprising: a) 5 to 25 wt% quaternary ammonium surfactant; b) 10 to 50 wt% nonionic surfactant; and, c) 1 to 10 wt% Lewis base, wherein ratio of quaternary ammonium surfactant to said nonionic surfactant is from 1:1 to 1:4 parts by weight, where, a corresponding aqueous antimicrobial composition is prepared by reconstituting 1 part by weight premix with 2 to 15 parts by weight water.
DESC:TECHNICAL FIELD
The present invention relates to reconstitutable antimicrobial cleansing composition (premix),
formulated to be diluted or reconstituted with water to provide a ready-to-use cleansing
composition, such as floor cleaner.
BACKGROUND & PRIOR ART
A variety of compositions for antimicrobial treatment of animate and inanimate surfaces are
available in solid and aqueous formats. Usually, such compositions are based on phenyl or
bleach, and are available in bottles or cans. The compositions usually also contain a low10 foaming surfactant, such as non-ionic surfactants. The compositions provide cleaning benefits
and kill the usual microbes that inhabit such surfaces, examples include S.aureus and E.hirae.
I/WE CLAIM
1) A reconstitutable premix for an antimicrobial composition, said premix comprising:
a) 5 to 25 wt% quaternary ammonium surfactant;
b) 10 to 50 wt% nonionic surfactant; and,
c) 1 to 10 wt% Lewis base,
wherein ratio of quaternary ammonium surfactant to said nonionic surfactant is from
1:1 to 1:4 parts by weight,
where, a corresponding aqueous antimicrobial composition is prepared by
reconstituting 1 part by weight premix with 2 to 15 parts by weight water.
2) A reconstitutable premix as claimed in claim 1 wherein said ratio is from 1:1 to 1:3 parts
by weight.
3) A reconstitutable premix as claimed in claim 1 or 2 wherein said quaternary ammonium
surfactant is at least one of alkyl dimethyl benzylammonium chloride (ADBAC), alkyl
dimethyl ethylbenzyl ammonium chloride (DEBAC), didecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride
(DDAC), cetyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (CTAC), and cetyl pyridinium chloride (CPC).
4) A reconstitutable premix as claimed in any of claims 1 to 3 wherein said nonionic
surfactant is C8 to C16 alkyl polyglucoside or a C8 to C18 fatty alcohol ethoxylate.
5) A reconstitutable premix as claimed in claim 4 wherein HLB value of said C8 to C18 fatty
alcohol ethoxylate is from 11 to 20.
6) A reconstitutable premix
