Electrical Connectivity Check Out System And Method For Vehicle Engine

Abstract: An electrical connectivity check out system (10) for a vehicle engine is disclosed which includes an electrical connectivity check out unit (20) having a plurality of power connections (41-47) and modules (22-28) connected to a control panel (36) and an assembled engine (35) and other vehicle components (34) in offline condition. A resistance check module (22) determines electrical connectivity of a plurality of sensors and electrical components in the engine (35) by measuring its resistance using an ohm meter (43). An actuation check module (24) checks a plurality of valves open and close function in the engine (35) by supplying controlled voltage from the electrical connectivity check out unit (20) and passing air to test the actuated valves and circuit. A leak check module (26) connected to a leak plug parking stand checks leakage in an engine gallery coolant line. A hydro carbon injection leak check module (28) actuates the hydro carbon injection metering unit valve (52) by supplying controlled voltage from the electrical connectivity check out unit (20) and simultaneously passing compressed air (49) to the valve (52) to detect leakage in the hydro carbon injection metering unit valve (52). A notification module (30) notifies any failure in the resistance check, the actuation check and the leak check to a quality manager for final clearance by displaying results on a display unit (32) and thereby ensures electrical defect free engine roll out for high volume production line.
