Specification

Description:Complete Specification:
The following specification describes and ascertains the nature of this invention and the manner in which it is to be performed

Field of the invention
[0001] The present disclosure relates fuel filters
Background of the invention

[0002] Water present in the Fuel can be separated using BS-6 Fuel filter elements to ensure the exhaust gas pollution norms. Water collected will be stored at bottom of the fuel filter has to be removes frequently based on the vehicle run time.
[0003] A drain plug is present in the fuel filter housing that is used to remove water collected at bottom of the fuel filter. A sensor (sensing several parameters of the fuel filter) gives notification to a user through the dashboard when water collected in the fuel filter is above a threshold level. The user can remove water based on this indication.
[0004] During prolonged operation of the vehicle, operator often is unaware or forgets to drain the water collected in the filter bowl which leads to dissipation or leakage of the water from the fuel filter to Engine components which may lead to corrosion.
[0005] There is a need to view the water level in the filter for either the user (or the operator/maintainer). The prior art CN201930637 U proposes a transparent filter. The utility model relates to a filter, in particular to a transparent filter, which comprises a transparent outer housing, a chassis, a top cover, a pull rod and a filter screen, wherein the pull rod is arranged on the chassis and is fixed through bolts; the transparent outer housing is arranged on the outer side of the pull rod and is fixed between the top cover and the chassis, the filter screen is arranged in the transparent outer housing and fixed between the top cover and the chassis, a water outlet is formed at one end of the chassis, and a water inlet is formed at the upper end of the top cover; and the transparent outer housing is made of tempered glass. By adopting the structure, the transparent filter has the advantages of reasonable design, convenience in use, and good effect of impurity removal.

[0006] Brief description of the accompanying drawings

[0007] An embodiment of the invention is described with reference to the following accompanying drawing:
[0008] Figure 1 depicts a fuel filter , according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.

Detailed description of the drawings

[0009] The present invention will now be described by way of example, with reference to accompanying drawings. Throughout all the figures, same or corresponding elements may generally be indicated by same reference numerals. These depicted embodiments are to be understood as illustrative of the invention and not as limiting in any way. It should also be understood that the figures are not necessarily to scale and that the embodiments are sometimes illustrated by graphic symbols, phantom lines, diagrammatic representations and fragmentary views. In predetermined instances, details which are not necessary for an understanding of the present invention, or which render other details difficult to perceive may have been omitted.

[0010] The advantages of the present invention will be apparent with this detailed description, wherein, the best method known to the applicant to implement the invention has also been described. It is however to be noted that numerous alternate embodiments of the present invention are possible and the disclosure of one of them is not to be construed as limiting the others.
[0011] In proposed fuel filter, a bowl is made up of transparent material and a filter cover is made up of metal. In an example, the bowl is made up of (but not limited to) plastic and the filter head (or the filter cover) is made up of (not limited to aluminum. Bowl and filter head are assembled by aluminum insert bush which is insert molded with transparent bowl. This insert bush, in an example is molded into the transparent bowl and is made up of (but not limited to) aluminum. Through this embodiment, the ‘Aluminum to aluminum’ fixature ensures thermal expansion of threads in a manner that does not affect the sealing dimension, thereby making the fuel filter leak proof.
[0012] With the help of transparent bowl a user/operator will be able to view the water level in the bowl based on a float level of the floating ring. Floating ring may be made up of a plastic material not limited to PP / HDPE / LDPE whose density falls between water and fuel. When the fuel level is raised in the bowl floating ring, the
[0013] Floating ring rises and reaches a maximum level. In such an event, the operator can manually drain water based on the water level.
[0014] Referring to Figure 1, disclosed is a fuel filter (10) comprising a fuel filter housing (1). The Fuel Filter housing comprises a filter head (3) and at least one filter element(2) positioned within said fuel filter housing(1). The filter element (2) is adapted to filter fuel that flows through said fuel filter.

[0015] The filter head comprises a external threaded end portion (4) that is defined at an end portion of said filter head. The fuel filter further comprises a transparent bowl(5). The transparent bowl comprises a transparent portion(5a) and a grooved end portion(5b) that is secured to said transparent portion (5a). Said grooved end portion of said transparent bowl meshes with the threaded end portion of the filter head(3) to constitute a unitary assembly.
[0016] Said transparent bowl (5) comprises a floating ring(6) that is positioned within said transparent bowl(5) and is adapted to rise within said transparent bowl to a displacement that is proportional to a level of water in said transparent bowl.

[0017] Said transparent bowl is sealed by means of a screw(7) that is secured within an opening that is defined within said transparent bowl, said screw(7) adapted to be removably coupled to said transparent bowl to facilitate draining water from said transparent bowl (5).

[0018] A grooved end of the grooved end portion(5a) of said transparent bowl is secured to an end of the transparent portion of said transparent bowl by molding the grooved end of the grooved end portion(5a) of said transparent bowl to the end of the transparent portion (5b) of said transparent bowl (5).
[0019] The filter head(3) is of a material not limited to Aluminum. Further, the threaded end portion (4) of the filter head and the grooved end portion (5a) of the transparent bowl are of a material not limited to Aluminum.
[0020] Further, the transparent portion (5b) of the transparent bowl is of a material not limited to plastic.
[0021] The disclosure advantageously provides the ability for the user/operator to know the water level and drain it accordingly. Further, metal molded ends to the transparent bowl ensure stability and endurance for the section of fuel filter that works under high temperatures.
