Durable Honeycomb Structure For Emission Control

Abstract: An emission control device (100) formed of a substrate for catalytic treatment of exhaust gases comprises a matrix body (102), a corrugated mantle (106), and an outer mantle (110). The matrix body (102) is formed by connecting multiple honeycomb members (104) made of foils. Each honeycomb member (104) having a structure with multiple cells arranged in parallel and series. The corrugated mantle (106) encapsulates the matrix body (102), the corrugated mantle (106) being made of a corrugated foil (108). The corrugated foil (108) that has a thickness that is equivalent or more than that of the foil used in the matrix body (102). The outer mantle (110) encloses the corrugated mantle (106) and multiple connections (112a and 112b) are configured to join the matrix body (102) to the corrugated mantle (106) and the corrugated mantle (106) to the outer mantle (110) (See FIGS. 1-4).
