Abstract: In this optical fiber unit constituting an optical fiber assembly and being obtained by layering a plurality of optical fiber ribbons, a plurality of inner-layer fiber units positioned on the radial inside of the optical fiber assembly, and a plurality of outer-layer fiber units positioned on the radial outside of the optical fiber assembly relative to the inner-layer fiber units are present in a certain cross section of the optical fiber assembly. Regarding the sine value of the angle formed by a straight line in the radial direction connecting the center of the optical fiber assembly and the center of gravity of the optical fiber ribbons, and a straight line in the width direction of the ribbons and connecting both ends of the optical fiber ribbons, the average sine value in the outer-layer fiber units is 0.366 or greater in the certain cross section, where the average sine value is the average of the sine values of the plurality of optical fiber ribbons of the same optical fiber unit.
