Abstract: ABSTRACT TITLE: A DRY-TYPE TRANSFORMER ASSEMBLY FOR OUTDOOR INSTALLATION IN HARSH ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS The present invention relates to a dry-type transformer assembly (100) for outdoor installation in harsh environmental conditions, providing enhanced protection and efficient thermal management. The dry-type transformer assembly (100) comprises of a cast resin dry-type transformer (102) with high-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) windings, which are encapsulated under vacuum using liquid epoxy resin reinforced with fiberglass insulation which ensures superior electrical insulation, mechanical durability, and moisture resistance. The enclosure (104), with an IP-65 protection rating, offers complete protection against dust ingress and water jets, making it suitable for moist, dusty, and stormy environments. The heat dissipation system (106), which includes corrugated metal sheets or cooling fins, is integrally formed on the external surface to maximize heat transfer and prevent overheating. Additional forced-air cooling through external fans enhances thermal efficiency. The assembly (100) minimize mechanical stress, ensuring long-term reliability and reduced maintenance. 1. A dry-type transformer assembly (100) for outdoor installation in harsh environmental conditions, the dry-type transformer assembly (100) comprising:
a cast resin dry-type transformer (102) including high-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) windings encapsulated and cast under vacuum using liquid epoxy resin reinforced with fiberglass insulation;
an enclosure (104) configured to enclose the cast resin dry-type transformer (102) and provide protection against dust ingress and water jets from any direction; and
a heat dissipation system (106) comprising at least one of corrugated metal sheets ?cooling fins on the external surface of the enclosure to facilitate effective thermal dissipation of heat generated during transformer operation.
2. The dry-type transformer assembly (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the enclosure (104) is made of material including corrosion-resistant material to withstand harsh environmental conditions including moisture, storms, and dust.
3. The dry-type transformer assembly (100) as claimed in claim 1 and 2, wherein the enclosure (104) includes forced-air cooling facilitated by cooling fans mounted externally to enhance heat dissipation through the corrugated metal sheets / cooling fins.
4. The dry-type transformer assembly (100) as claimed in claim 1 and 3, wherein the enclosure (104) is hermetically sealed to prevent dust and moisture ingress while allowing heat dissipation through the external cooling elements.
5. The dry-type transformer assembly (100) as claimed in claim 1 and 4 , wherein the enclosure (104) includes thermal sensors and control systems to monitor and regulate internal temperature and activate auxiliary cooling mechanisms as required.
6. The dry-type transformer assembly (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the heat dissipation system (106) is integrally formed on at least one external surface of the enclosure (104) to maximize surface area for heat transfer.
7. The dry-type transformer assembly (100) as claimed in claim 1 and 7, wherein the heat dissipation system (106) comprises a multi-layer corrugated structure to enhance heat transfer efficiency and ensure uniform cooling across the transformer surface.
8. The dry-type transformer assembly (100) as claimed in claim 1,wherein the dry-type transformer assembly (100) comprises of a plurality of vibration-damping mounts to minimize mechanical stress and enhance structural integrity during operation in harsh environmental conditions.
