[0006] Fig. 3 illustrates a support member of the battery pack, according to an embodiment of the present invention.

Detailed description of the embodiments:
[0007] Fig. 1 illustrates a side cross-section view of a battery pack, according to an embodiment of the present invention. The battery pack 100 comprises a enclosure 102 to enclose a stack of pouch cells 104. The battery pack 100 further comprises a front panel (not shown) and a support member 110 (also referred to as back panel) assembled at open ends of the enclosure 102, characterized in that, the battery pack 100 comprise a pair of rail members 118 formed along longitudinal length or height of the enclosure 102 and on at least one interior surface of the enclosure 102. The pair of rail members 118 forms a cavity with the interior surface, the support member 110 and side edges of pouch cells 104 positioned inside the enclosure 102 during assembly. The pouch cells 104 also corresponds to or comprises prismatic cells or other types of cells.

[0008] In Fig. 1 the battery pack 100 is shown with plurality of pouch cells 104 with positive and negative tabs 120 at one side of the pouch cells 104. In an embodiment, the positive and negative tabs 120 are not on the same side. As per Fig. 1, the front panel, which is not shown, is mounted on the side where the positive and negative tabs 120 are located.

[0009] According to an embodiment of the present invention, a heat dissipating material 116 is filled in the cavity for thermal management of said pouch cells 104. The cavity (may also be referred to as slot) is provided for the heat dissipation material 116 to improve thermal heat dissipation. The volume of heat dissipation material 116 is directly proportional to the required heat transfer rate.

[0010] Fig. 2 illustrates a top view and perspective view of a enclosure of the battery pack, according to an embodiment of the present invention. In Fig. 2, a top view 200 and a perspective view 210 are shown. The rail members 118 are provided on two internal surfaces of the enclosure 102 which are opposite to each other, and which faces side edges of the pouch cells 104 as clearly shown in the top view 200. The rail members 118 are any one of straight design and curved design as shown in perspective view 210. The pair of rail members 118 are designed to cover predetermined number of pouch cells 104 in intermediate region of the stack of pouch cells 104. In other words, the pouch cells 104 positioned at extreme sides of the stack are not within the pair of rail members 118.

[0011] According to the present invention, the battery pack 100 is suitable to be used for electric or hybrid or conventional vehicle selected from a group comprising a two-wheeler such as scooter, motorcycle, and a three-wheeler such as autorickshaw, four wheeler such as cars, and other vehicles which makes use of batteries.

[0012] According to an embodiment of the present invention, the enclosure 102 for the battery pack 100 is disclosed. The enclosure 102 comprises a container with closed side surfaces and two open ends. The two open ends are opposite to each other. The enclosure 102 is adapted to enclose the stack of pouch cells 104, and the two open ends are closed by the front panel and the support member 110. The enclosure 102, characterized in that, comprises a pair of rail members 118 formed along longitudinal length of the enclosure 102 and on at least one interior surface of the enclosure 102. The pair of rail members 118 forms the cavity with the interior surface, the support member 110 and side edges of the pouch cells 104 positioned inside said enclosure 102 during assembly. The rail members 118 are provided on two internal surfaces of the enclosure 102 which are opposite to each other, and which faces side edges of the pouch cells 104. The rail members 118 are any one of straight design and curved design.

[0013] Fig. 3 illustrates a support member of the battery pack, according to an embodiment of the present invention. In Fig. 3, a combined view 300 and an exploded view 310 are shown. In the combined view 300, the arrangement of the grooves 302 and positioning of the dampeners 112 are provided. The shoulders of the pouch cells 104 rests on the dampeners 112 and the foil gets accommodated in the central grooves 302. Further, the positions 304 for fixing the rail members 118. Both of the support member 110 and the enclosure 102 are screwed to each other at this positions 304.

[0014] In the exploded view 310, a gasket 114 of mounted on a second piece 108 of the support member 110 is visible. The first piece 106 and the second piece 108 together forms the support member 110, which otherwise is available in a single piece.

[0015] According to an embodiment of the present invention, the support member 110 is designed/provided in a two-piece structure. The first piece 106 is arranged with a bottom end of the pouch cells 104 before insertion of the stack of pouch cells 104 into the enclosure 102 and the second piece 108 is assembled with the first piece 106 after insertion of the stack of pouch cells 104 into the enclosure 102.

[0016] According to the present invention, a heat dissipating structure for battery pack 100 is disclosed. The battery pack 100 comprises cavities/slots for filling of the heat dissipation material (also known as encapsulant) 116 to improve thermal heat dissipation. The rail members 118 ensures that only necessary pouch cells 104 are aided in heat dissipation, thereby optimizing the cost.
