Description:FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[001] The present invention relates to an herbal composition for skin care and treatment of infection in domestic animals and a method of preparation thereof. In particular, the present invention relates to an herbal composition that moisturizes animal skin and is highly effective to prevent and treat cutaneous fungal infections and dermatological conditions and promotes anti-inflammatory response. The present invention further relates to a method of preparing herbal anti-fungal composition that is easy, cost effective and efficient.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[002] Skin infections in domestic animals caused by fungi, and ectoparasites are common and often lead to significant economic and welfare losses. Conventional allopathic treatments generally involve antibiotics, antifungals, corticosteroids, or chemical antiseptics, which result in antibiotic resistance, adverse side effects, and environmental contamination.
[003] Several herbal products have been developed, but most lack standardized compositions, comprehensive efficacy and broad-spectrum activity. Few existing formulations combine anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant, and wound-healing actions in one cream, limiting their effectiveness in chronic or polymicrobial infections. Moreover, these all are usually available as commercial products and are therefore difficult to be accessed by farmers specially in remote areas and villages.
[004] Thus, there is a long-felt need for a highly efficient and effective herbal composition for skin care and treatment of fungal skin infection in domestic animals. There also exists a need for a preparation method of herbal anti-fungal composition that is efficient, easy and cost effective.
OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
[005] One of the objects of the present invention is to provide herbal composition for domestic animals.
[006] Another object of the present invention is to provide herbal composition for skin health and to prevent fungal skin infections in domestic animals.
[007] A further object of the present invention is to provide herbal composition that is highly efficient and completely treats and cures fungal skin infection in 30-40 days.
[008] Still another object of the present invention provides an herbal anti-fungal composition free from chemicals, antibiotics and steroids.
[009] Yet another object of the present invention is to provide an herbal composition that promotes quick skin repair and targets multiple fungal infections.
[010] Yet further object of the invention is to provide an efficient, cost effective and simple method of preparing herbal composition for domestic animals.

[013] In another aspect, the present invention provides the composition wherein the neem leaves and the moringa leaves are fresh leaves.
[014] A further aspect of the present invention is to provide the composition wherein the composition is administered topically 1-3 times daily for a period of 5 – 50 days.
[015] In a still further aspect, the present invention provides the composition exhibits a shelf-life of 1-4 months at a storage temperature of 4℃.
[016] In a further aspect, the present invention provides the composition, wherein the composition exhibits antifungal activity in domestic animals.
[017] In another aspect, the present invention provides the composition wherein the domestic animals include small ruminants and large ruminants.
[018] In yet another aspect, the present invention provides the composition wherein the composition is in the form of a cream or paste.
[019] A further aspect of the present invention provides a method of preparing anti-fungal herbal composition comprising the steps of: (a) blending neem leaves, moringa leaves, turmeric powder, ginger paste, garlic paste, aloe vera pulp, clove oil, camphor, coconut oil, onion paste, neem oil, olive oil and kalonji oil; and (b) homogenizing the mixture to obtain the herbal anti-fungal herbal composition.
[020] A yet further aspect of the present invention provides the method of preparing composition wherein the blending is gentle blending and wherein the herbal composition is filtered before storage.

[038] According to an embodiment of the present invention the preparation method further comprises filtering the herbal anti-fungal composition before storage to enhance the shelf-life of the composition.
[039] According to another embodiment of the present invention, the shelf-life of the anti-fungal composition is 1-4 months at 4℃.
EXAMPLES:
[040] Embodiments of the present invention will now be discussed in more detail with reference to following examples which are provided for exemplification only and which should not be considered limiting on the scope of the invention in any way.
Example 1
[041] According to an embodiment of the present invention, the herbal anti-fungal composition, as cream, was prepared. The components were taken as listed below and mixed by gentle blending. Then, the aqueous and oil-based extracts were homogenized supporting emulsification to obtain the herbal composition. Briefly, a fine paste of ginger, garlic and onion was prepared. The coconut oil warmed to 55℃ was added to the paste and then the oil-paste mixture was incubated at 32℃ for 12 hours (overnight). The mixture was again heated gradually to 60℃ for 5 minutes and then gradually cooled to the room temperature. The cooled mixture was then filtered with muslin cloth. The residue was discarded and filtrate was collected. The filtrate was mixed with olive oil (prewarmed to 42℃) with gentle mixing. Then at next step, turmeric powder was added along with gentle mixing not allowing the powder to form coagulates and then the mixture was kept still for 3 hours. The mixture was again filtered with muslin cloth and to the filtered mixture was added finely grinded aloe vera pulp and kalonji oil (prewarmed to 42℃) along with mixing. Thereafter, finely grinded neem leaves and moringa leaves were added and the mixture was heated to 50℃ for 5 minutes. The heated mixture was then incubated for 2.5 hours at room temperature and then again heated to 40℃. To this heated mixture was added clove oil, neem oil and camphor. The mixture was mixed thoroughly to obtain a homogenous herbal cream composition. The cream as obtained was smooth to apply and stable for 2 months when stored at 4℃, as tested.
[042] Further, the cream composition as obtained was again filtered through muslin cloth and stored at 4℃. It was observed that filtered cream composition was stable up to 4 months, as tested, without losing any efficacy.
