Abstract: To reduce amount of yarn removed due to execution of checking mode, spinning machine 1 includes a spinning unit 7, a unit control unit 8, and a carriage control unit 111. The spinning 5 unit 7 includes a spinning section 2 that spins a yarn Y1, a winding section 6 that winds the yarn Y1 supplied from the spinning section 2 to form a package P, a yarn splicing device 109 that splices the yarn Y1 when it is cut between the spinning section 2 and the winding section 6, and a retaining device 4 that retains the yarn Y1 spun by the spinning section 2. When splicing the yarn Y1 cut between the spinning section 2 and the winding section 6, the unit 10 control unit 8 and the carriage control unit 111 performs a checking mode in which the yarn Y1 between the spinning section 2 and the retaining device 4 is cut after the retaining device 4 retains the yarn Y1 spun by the spinning section 2, and in synchronization therewith, the yarn splicing device 109 performs yarn splicing.
