Abstract: An object of the present invention is to suppress the decrease of an operation rate of an automatic winder due to 5 the failure in properly threading a yarn to a winding bobbin. An automatic winder 1 includes a yarn winding unit 2 and a doffing device 3. The yarn winding unit 2 includes a yarn supply section 11, a winding section 13, and a lower yarn capturing guide unit 35. The lower yarn capturing guide unit 10 35 is configured to guide a yarn Y, which is supplied from a yarn supplying bobbin Bs, to the doffing device 3 in doffing. The doffing device 3 includes a yarn capturing arm 61 configured to perform a receiving guiding operation. The automatic winder 1 includes a yarn clearer 34 and a 15 controller. The controller is configured to perform a retry process after causing the yarn capturing arm 61 to perform the receiving guiding operation and before causing the yarn winding unit to perform the winding operation. When the controller determines that a lower yarn Y1 is not properly 20 guided to the winding section 13 by the yarn capturing arm 61 based on a detection result by the yarn clearer 34, the controller performs the above-described retry process.
