Specification

Description:Technical Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to herbal compositions which are non-alcoholic and non-sedative suitable for growth and development in children enabling them to achieve their full potential.
Background of Invention
A number of compositions are referred in Ayurveda classics which are being used to enhance optimum growth and development in children but a full potential formulation along with proper standardized and quality control to match the present-day need is not available in the market.
Herbs and medicinal plants have been used for centuries as source of a wide variety of biologically active compounds. The plant crude material or its pure compounds are extensively used to treat diverse ailments by generations of indigenous practitioners. They are currently the subject of much research interest, but their extraction as part of phytochemical and biological investigations presents specific challenges that must be addressed. Natural products provide unlimited opportunities for new drug discovery because of the unmatched availability of chemical diversity. So, in ayurveda holistically recommendation is there.
The compositions present in classical textbooks have potency driven from either volatile based extracts or water or aqueous based extracts. Aqueous extracts of plant herbs are easy to process however, each one have their own limitations with regard to potency and aftereffects. Making an herbal composition of the combination of volatile extract-aqueous extract with a natural process at commercial level is tough to achieve hence the market is flooded with polyherbal based ayurvedic formulation in a non-standardized, low potency format.
To overcome this challenge, the present inventors have come up with a process of making herbal composition of the combination that contains volatile extracts and aqueous extracts which are naturally processed and are commercially viable and have greater efficacy than the already available formularies.

Summary of the Invention
In one general aspect, the present invention relates to a herbal composition which comprises the combination of plant based volatile extracts and plant based aqueous extracts and one or more of pharmaceutically acceptable excipients.
In an embodiment of the above aspect, the herbal composition is a non-alcoholic, non-chemical solvent composition.
In yet another embodiment of the above aspect, the herbal composition contains volatile extracts and aqueous extracts obtained from herbs like musta, arjuna, mulathi, atis (Ativisha), karkatshringi, anantmool, vindang, vach, ashwagandha, kaunj beej, brahmi, shankhpushpi, hadjod, sauf, shatavari, danti, manjistha, chitrak, triphala, bala, atibala, dugdh, naagbala, nishotha, dugdh aja, khadir, prishnparni, musli and combination thereof.
In still another embodiment of the above aspect, the pharmaceutically acceptable excipients are selected from preservatives, sweeteners, flavours and combination thereof.
In another general aspect, the present invention relates to a process for the preparation of a herbal composition which comprises the combination of plant based volatile extracts and plant based aqueous extracts and one or more of pharmaceutically acceptable excipients; wherein the process comprises:
i. preparing decoction of selected herbs taken either in 1:1 or1:2 or any other combination in water either 1:16 or 1:8 or another combination and the prepared decoction is filtered through mesh to collect the filtrate.
ii. preparing ark of selected herbs taken in as per the mentioned quantity with variation and distilled in water in 1:16 or 1:8 or another combination to collect the distillate.
iii. mixing decoction and the distillate in a specific proportion and other pharmaceutically acceptable excipients.

Detailed Description of the Invention
All the herbs were segregated and went through proper quality check parameters and was assessed for their active molecules. The herbs were then sent for processing where oil and aqueous affinity molecules were segregated out by involving the twin techniques:
The decoction (kwath) of all the herbs were prepared by taking coarsely powdered (yuvkut) format of herbs in ratio of 1:1 or 1:2 or any combination based on maximum aqueous extractive value of herbs.
Ark of same herbs is prepared by distillation with water where variable ratio of herbs was opted to have maximum volatile compounds extraction.
Both volatile-aqueous soluble extracted material is passed through 400 mesh and then mixed at different concentration along with honey/cane juice/sugar syrup to have an homogenous palatable mixture. Flavouring and preservative are added for children acceptance and product shelf life.
The composition is prepared in such a way that, it can be taken as raw, or mixed with water/milk/juice or any other kind of liquid/semi-liquid/solid substance for administration.

EXAMPLES
By way of example and not limitation, the following examples are illustrative of various embodiments of the present invention:
Kwath (Decoction) preparation: The stipulated herbs were taken either in 1:1 or1:2 or any other combination for decoction is prepared with water/solvent in either 1:16 or 1:8 or another combination. The decoction prepared is filtered through mesh to collect the filtrate.
Ark preparation: The stipulated herbs taken in as per mentioned quantity with variation and distilled in water in 1:16 or 1:8 or another combination to collect the distilled.
The herbs used in the formulation are selected from the below list and the combinations thereof but not limited to the same.
Musta, arjuna, mulathi, atis (Ativisha), karkatshringi, anantmool, vindang, vach, ashwagandha, kaunj beej, brahmi, shankhpushpi, hadjod, sauf, shatavari, danti, manjistha, chitrak, triphala, bala, atibala, dugdh, naagbala, nishotha, dugdh aja, khadir, prishnparni and musli & many more or others.
The ark to kwath proportion is made as below, where sweetener used can be honey, sugar cane juice, cane sugar etc.
