Preparation Of High Purity 3 Chlorothiophene

Abstract: The present invention discloses a process for preparing high purity 3-chlorothiophene. The said process comprises the steps of: (a) contacting an impure mixture comprising 3-chlorothiophene with a metal catalyst in the presence of hydrogen gas; and (b) distilling the mixture obtained in step (a) to obtain high purity 3-chlorothiophene; wherein the purity of the obtained 3-chlorothiophene is greater than or equal to 99.70%, and more preferably in the range of 99.70 to 99.99%.
