Abstract: A continuously variable transmission system is provided for a vehicle, in particular a bicycle, to assist a user in defining and controlling the speed ratios of a continuously variable transmission. A user can define one or more speed ratios in a profile that the user can select again for subsequent trips. The user can select the profile and have familiarity and knowledge of the cadence and effort associated with the speed ratios of the profile. The user can select among multiple profiles to change operation of the continuously variable transmission without changing any components of the transmission. The user may also select among modes of operation, which include a stepless shift mode, a manual shift mode, an automatic shift mode, a learning mode, and/or a map mode.
