A CABLE JOINT CLOSURE KIT AND A METHOD FOR CLOSING CABLE JOINT;
RAYCHEM RPG LIMITED, A COMPANY INCORPORATED UNDER THE COMPANIES ACT, 1956, WHOSE ADDRESS IS INFOCOM SBU, 463, CEAT MAHAL ANNEXE, DR. ANNIE BESANT ROAD, WORLI, MUMBAI -400 030, MAHARASHTRA, INDIA.

THE FOLLOWING SPECIFICATION
DESCRIBES THE INVENTION

FIELD OF THE INVENTION:
The present invention is related to cable joint closure kit and a method for closing cable joint.
BACKGROUND ART:
There are many situations where it is necessary to make a strong and reliable waterproof joint between two or more cables/substrates to avoid contact of splice joint with moisture and aggressive media in case of underground joint and air/rain in case of above ground joint. Many methods and kits have been previously proposed for splicing cables.
Generally, Joint Closure system for Copper cables in telecommunication networks is provided by heat shrinking method by using a heat shrinkable tube or alike along with vulcanized insulation layer. However, this process is time consuming and requires heating. The process requires usage of tools like hot air guns in order to shrink the sleeve on the connectors. Moreover the installation charges are higher as it is craft intensive installation requiring trained or certified resources.
Another Joint Closure system for Copper Cables in telecommunication networks is available know as gel based splice closure which comprises two gel based filled half shells, gel compressing springs, tie wraps for confining the gel at each end of the closure and strain relief accessories. However, said system is very expensive and hence unavailable for large scale deployment in the price sensitive Indian market.
2

DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION:
It is object of the present invention to solve above and other problems related to the joint closure system for copper cables in telecommunication networks.
The present invention provides a cable joint closure kit, comprising a sheath connector for reducing the EMF (Electro Magnetic Field), one or more supporting element for providing structural and/or mechanical strength to a cable joint, a polythene sheet to form a bag covering the joint, a filling compound to fill the bag formed by the polythene sheet for prevent water ingress in the joint, an adhesive to prevent water entry from the ends of joint and a weather-resrstant tape for covering the joint.
According to the present invention, the kit may comprise one or more tie wraps for holding supporting element.
According to the present invention, the kit may comprise one or more emery strips for abrading cables.
According to the present invention, the kit may comprise cleaning tissues for cleaning abraded area of cables and/or to clean entire joining area to remove dirt, dust and jelly.
According to the present invention, the kit may comprise a PVC adhesive tape to cover splice bundle and/or for taping supporting element.
According to the present invention, the supporting element is preferably aluminum canister for providing mechanical strength to the joint.
The present invention also provides a method for closing cable joint using the kit of the present invention. The method comprises step of preparing

and connecting the cables; fixing supporting element with the cable at joint; installing shield continuity clip; forming bag of a polythene sheet surrounding the joint; filling the bag uniformly with filling material; closing open end of the bag; wrapping a weather resistant tape tightly over the joint from one end to other end and allowing the settling of adhesive compound.
According to one embodiment, the method comprises a step of applying adhesive on the ends of joint before wrapping the weather resistant tape to prevent water ingress from the end of the joint.
According to another embodiment of the present invention, the supporting element is fixed with the cable preferably by wrapping tie wrap.
According to the present invention, the step of forming a bag of a polythene sheet surrounding the joint comprises steps of surrounding the joint with polythene sheet and joining the sides of polythene sheet to form a loose bag surrounding the joint between the cables and having top end open. Preferably, the sides are joined by PVC tape.
According to the present invention, the ends of the cable joint may be abraded with emery strip before the application of adhesive.
Figure 1 show a joint supported by the supporting element according to the present invention.
Figure 2 shows a bag surrounding the joint according to the present invention.
Figure 3 shows adhesive applied splice joint according to the present invention.
4

Figure 4 shows a process of wrapping of a weather resistant tape surrounding the adhesive applied joint.
The present invention does not require any heating and the joint is leak proof. This system is easier to install, quick and doesn't require certified resources. This system is also economical and can be readily deployed in the Indian telecommunication networks.
