Claims:WE CLAIM:
1. A clamping fixture assembly for making a flexible terminal connection, the clamping fixture assembly comprising:
a clamping assembly (3), the clamping assembly (3) having a base plate (4), a lower plate (5), and a support plate (6);
a height block (1) configured to be secured to the clamping assembly (3);
a hydraulic jack (H) provided with the height block (1), such that the support plate (6) provides support to the height block (1) and the hydraulic jack (H);
a pressing block (2) provided proximal to the hydraulic jack (H) and a bending die (B) fixed on the clamping assembly (3); and
a flexible connector (F) aligned with the pressing block (2), wherein a force is applied gradually on the pressing block (2) by the hydraulic jack (H) to provide a bending radius on the flexible connector (F).
2. The clamping fixture assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein the height block (1) provides adjustable height to the hydraulic jack (H).
3. The clamping fixture assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein the pressing block (2) distributes pressure on the flexible connector (F).
4. The clamping fixture assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein the base plate (4) is fixed on bed of hydraulic press associated with the clamping fixture assembly (3).
5. The clamping fixture assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein the lower plate (5) is welded on a lower portion of the base plate (4).
6. The clamping fixture assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein the support plate (6) is configured to provide support to the hydraulic jack (H) during application of pressure.
, Description:A clamping fixture assembly for making a flexible terminal connection
FIELD OF INVENTION
[001] The present invention relates to a means for enabling accurate manufacturing of flexible terminal connectors in large sized turbo generators.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[002] Flexible connectors are used to connect current carrying bolt to coil – A in wound rotor of 800mw TG (turbo generator) set. The flexible connector is a very important component and requires accurate radius for proper matching with C-C bolts and its brazing with the coil-A. However, some problem is faced in the radius bending of flexible connector in manufacturing of TG sets.

[003] Earlier a die is used to bend radius of the flexible connectors, but as the configuration of flexible connector is such that this radius is not bent successfully with the existing die. So, an attachment is desired to exert the force from one side, which will provide accurate radius to flexible connector.

OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION

[004] For making flexible connector two plate of copper is kept on the bed of one die, a force is exerted on the top surface to achieve the bending radius on the top and the bottom of the plate, but for the one side malletting action is performed to achieve the desired radius. But due to this action most of the time the radius gets distorted.

[005] An object of the present invention is to develop a clamping fixture which provide smooth radius on flexible connector.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[006] A clamping fixture assembly for making a flexible terminal connection, the clamping fixture assembly includes a clamping assembly (3), the clamping assembly (3) having a base plate (4), a lower plate (5), and a support plate (6); a height block (1) configured to be secured to the clamping assembly (3); a hydraulic jack H provided with the height block (1), such that the support plate (6) provides support to the height block (1) and the hydraulic jack H; a pressing block (2) provided proximal to the hydraulic jack H and a bending die B fixed on the clamping assembly (3); and a flexible connector F aligned with the pressing block, wherein a force is applied gradually on the pressing block (2) by the hydraulic jack H to provide a bending radius on the flexible connector F.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS

[007] Further objects and advantages of this invention will be more apparent from the ensuing description when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings of the exemplary embodiments and wherein:
Figure 1 shows: The complete arrangement of the clamping fixture for flexible connection for 800MW turbo generator.
Figure 2 shows: A height block which provide the accurate height for the working of the hydraulic jack.
Figure 3 shows: The pressing block which is to be pressed by the hydraulic jack.
Figure 4 shows: the clamping assembly, which is fixed on the bed of the power pressing die.
Figure 5 shows: The Base plate which is the important part of the clamping assembly.
Figure 6 shows: The lower plate which is also a part of clamping assembly that is weld on lower part of the base plate.
Figure 7 shows: The support plate which is also a part of clamping assembly that is weld on the one side of the base plate. The main purpose of this plate is to provide the support to hydraulic jack

DETAIL DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS OF THE PRESENT INVENTION WITH REFERENCE TO THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS

[008] The present invention, now be described more specifically with reference to the following specification.

[009] It should be noted that the description and figures merely illustrate the principles of the present subject matter. It should be appreciated by those skilled in the art that conception and specific embodiment disclosed may be readily utilized as a basis for modifying or designing other structures for carrying out the same purposes of the present subject matter. It should also be appreciated by those skilled in the art that by devising various arrangements that, although not explicitly described or shown herein, embody the principles of the present subject matter and are included within its spirit and scope. Furthermore, all examples recited herein are principally intended expressly to be for pedagogical purposes to aid the reader in understanding the principles of the present subject matter and the concepts contributed by the inventor(s) to furthering the art and are to be construed as being without limitation to such specifically recited examples and conditions. [0010] The present invention provides a clamping fixture assembly for making perfect bending radius on the side of flexible terminal connector / connection. The clamping fixture assembly includes the following components:

- Height block (1)
- Pressing block (2)
- Clamping assembly (3)
- Base plate (4)
- Lower plate (5)
- Support plate (6)

[0011] The clamping assembly 3 is fixed on the table of the hydraulic press. Next, a height block 1 is fixed by an allen-screw on the surface of the clamping assembly 1. Further, a pressing block 2 is aligned and kept on side of a flexible connector F, and a hydraulic jack is placed on the height block 1. Further, a force is applied gradually on the pressing block 2 by the hydraulic jack H, and due to this a perfect bending radius (Ra,Rb) is formed on the flexible connector F. The structural and functional characteristics of the aforementioned clamping fixture assembly will now be described with reference to drawings, FIGS. 1-7, in the foregoing description.

[0012] Fig. 1 shows the compete working of the Clamping fixture assembly for making a flexible connector in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure. Firstly, the clamping assembly 3 is fixed on the bed of the hydraulic press. Next, a height block 1 is fixed by an allen-screw on the surface of the clamping assembly 3. Further, the allen-screw is tightened in T-nut which is inserted in T-slot of this hydraulic press.

[0013] Further in an embodiment, a bending die B is fixed on the bed of the clamping fixture assembly. Further, two welded plates of copper (inner and outer) are held between the bending die B and pressure is exerted by the hydraulic press. Thereafter, a bend on the plate (copper), which together are called flexible connector, is formed. Further, a height block 1 is fixed on the clamping assembly 3 by tightening the allen-screw in T-slot of this hydraulic press. Next, a pressing block 2 is adjusted on the bending die B.

[0014] In an embodiment, a hydraulic jack H is further kept on the height block 1, the height block (1) provides adjustable height to the hydraulic jack H. Next, a force is gradually applied on the pressing block 2, due to which a Radius (bend) is formed on the side of the copper plate F.

[0015] Fig. 2 shows the height block 1 in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure. The main purpose of the height block 1 is to give appropriate height and base to the hydraulic jack H. A block of dimension L1 X B1 X H1 is taken and machined. After the surface finishing of the block, two holes of diameter (D1) and depth (LI) was made at a certain distance/gap. Further, two counter holes with diameter (D2) are made on the two holes of diameter (D1) at a depth (L2).

[0016] Fig. 3 shows the pressing block 2 in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure. The main function of pressing block 2 is to press the flexible connector F. When the force is transferred from the hydraulic jack H to the pressing block 2, then the pressing block 2 bends the flexible connector F in desired shape, and a perfect radius (Ra and Rb) is achieved. A block of Length La, breadth Ba, and height Ha was machined, and after the finishing of the block, a fillet (radius 'Ra') and a bend (radius 'Rb') are made on it.

[0017] Fig. 4 shows the clamping assembly 3 in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure. The Clamping assembly 3 is fixed on the bed of the hydraulic press. All the aforementioned parts such as the height block 1, the pressing block 2, the pressing die are fixed on top surface of the clamping assembly 3.

[0018] Fig. 5 shows a Base Plate of dimension (LXBXH). In an embodiment, a plate is machined to achieve a desired shape / base plate. Further, three (3) slots with breadth 'Sb', height Hl, and length Ld (for 2 slots), and Lc (for single slot) is made on the bed (top surface). In an example, Lc is greater than Ld. For safety, a chamfer of radius Rd on each corner on the base plate is made.

[0019] Fig. 6 shows the Lower Plate 5. The lower plate 5 is welded on lower portion of the base plate 4 which holds the entire clamping assembly 3. For making the lower plate 5, a block of dimension Lb x Bb x Hb is machined on its all faces. On one face (Lb x Hb), a chamfer (C'n) is made all along the dimension Hb.

[0020] Fig. 7 shows the Support Plate 6. The support plate 6 is welded on one side of the clamping plate that provide support to the hydraulic jack H, thereby enabling the hydraulic jack not to jump out while applying the pressure. For making the support plate 6, a block of dimension Lf x Bf x Hf is machined on its all faces. On one of the faces (LfxHf), two chamfer's (C'f) are made all along the dimension Hf.

[0021] It is to be noted that the present invention is susceptible to modifications, adaptations and changes by those skilled in the art. Such variant embodiments employing the concepts and features of this invention are intended to be within the scope of the present invention, which is further set forth under the following claims.
