A Composition Comprising Salvia Officinalis

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a composition comprising Salvia officinalis extract, and curcumin, which at particular w/w ratios, exhibits enhanced inhibition of microbial growth. This composition finds potential application in formulations which can reduce unwanted bacterial load from both animate, and inanimate surfaces.

Specification

Claims:1. A composition comprising:
a. Salvia officinalis extract; and
b. curcumin,
wherein Salvia officinalis extract to curcumin w/w ratio in said composition is in the range of 1:130-1:1600.

2. The composition as claimed in claim 1, further comprises suitable carriers, diluents, and excipients.

3. The composition as claimed in any of the claims 1-2, wherein Salvia officinalis extract weight concentration in said composition is in the range of 1.7-8.5 ppm, and curcumin weight concentration in said composition is in the range of 1150-2700 ppm.

4. The composition as claimed in any of the claims 1-2, wherein Salvia officinalis extract to curcumin w/w ratio in said composition is 1:645.

5. The composition as claimed in claim 4, wherein Salvia officinalis extract weight concentration in said composition is 3.875 ppm, and curcumin weight concentration in said composition is 2500 ppm.

6. The composition as claimed in any of the claims 1-2, wherein Salvia officinalis extract to curcumin w/w ratio in said composition is 1:161.

7. The composition as claimed in claim 6, wherein Salvia officinalis extract weight concentration in said composition is 7.75 ppm, and curcumin weight concentration in said composition is 1250 ppm.

8. A method of preparing a composition as claimed in any of the claims 1-7.

9. A method of inhibiting growth of microorganisms, said method comprising:
a. obtaining a composition as claimed in any of the claims 1-7; and
b. contacting said composition with microorganisms,
wherein said method inhibits growth of microorganisms.

10. A composition as claimed in any of the claims 1-7 for use in preparing topical formulations for inhibiting microbial growth.
