A Controller And Method To Correct A Combustionparameter During Transient Condition Of Anengine

Abstract: The controller 110 configured to receive an input signal 202 for at least one input parameter, determine a transient condition based on a rate of change of the input parameter. A signal corresponding to the rate of change of the input parameter is referred to as a primary signal 112. The controller 110 characterized by, is adapted to generate a secondary signal 114 based on the primary signal 112, and correct the combustion parameter based on the secondary signal 114. The controller 110 is also referred to as Engine Management System (EMS) of the vehicle 100. The combustion parameter is at least one selected from a group comprising an ignition angle, ignition time and injection quantity. The controller 110 and the method improves the drivability of the vehicle. Figure 1

Specification

Claims:1. A controller (110) to correct a combustion parameter during transient
condition of an engine (116), said controller (110) configured to
receive an input signal (202) for at least one input parameter,
determine a transient condition based on a rate 5 of change of said
input parameter, referred to as a primary signal (112), characterized
by, said controller (110) adapted to
generate a secondary signal (114) based on said primary
signal (112), and
10 correct said combustion parameter based on said secondary
signal (114).
2. The controller (110) as claimed in claim 1, wherein said at least one input
parameter is selected from a group comprising a throttle position and an
15 engine speed.
3. The controller (110) as claimed in claim 1, wherein to generate said
secondary signal (114), said controller (110) adapted to
create said secondary signal (114), and values of which is set to
20 follow said primary signal (112) until a maximum value (204) of
said primary signal (112) is reached during said transient condition,
retain value of said secondary signal (114) for a configurable period
of time, and
filter value of said secondary signal (114) back to value of said
25 primary signal (112).
4. The controller (110) as claimed in claim 3, wherein said configurable period
of time is calculated based on at least one of said input parameter and an
engine temperature.
5. The controller (110) as claimed in claim 1, wherein combustion parameter
is at least one selected from a group comprising an ignition angle, ignition
time and injection quantity.
6. A method for correcting a combustion parameter during transient 5 condition
of an engine (116), said method comprising the steps of
receiving an input signal (202) for at least one input parameter,
determining a transient condition based on a rate of change of said
input parameter, referred to as primary signal (112), characterized
10 by,
generating a secondary signal (114) based on said primary signal
(112), and
correcting said combustion parameter based on said secondary
signal (114).
7. The method as claimed in claim 6, wherein said at least one input parameter
is selected from a group comprising a throttle position and an engine speed.
8. The method as claimed in claim 6, wherein generating said secondary signal
20 (114) comprises
creating said secondary signal (114), and following said primary
signal (112) until a maximum value (204) of said primary signal
(112) is reached during said transient condition,
retaining said value of said secondary signal (114) for a configurable
25 period of time, and
filtering value of said secondary signal (114) back to value of said
primary signal (112).
9. The method as claimed in claim 8, wherein said configurable period of time
30 is calculated based on at least one of said input parameter and an engine
temperature.
10. The method as claimed in claim 6, wherein combustion parameter is at least
one selected from a group comprising an ignition angle, ignition time and
injection quantity. , Description:The controller 110 configured to receive an input signal 202 for at least one input
parameter, determine a transient condition based on a rate of change of the input
parameter. A signal corresponding to the rate of change of the input parameter is
referred to as a primary signal 112. The controller 110 characterized by, is adapted
to generate a secondary signal 114 based on the primary signal 112, and correct the
combustion parameter based on the secondary signal 114. The controller 110 is also
referred to as Engine Management System (EMS) of the vehicle 100. The
combustion parameter is at least one selected from a group comprising an ignition
angle, ignition time and injection quantity. The controller 110 and the method
improves the drivability of the vehicle.
