, Description:Complete Specification:
The following specification describes and ascertains the nature of this invention and the manner in which it is to be performed
Field of the invention
[0001] The present disclosure relates to a filter assembly for a fuel filter.
Background of the invention
[0002] A fuel filter contains a number of parts that require proper alignment and tightening for a leakage proof assembly. In the current design, the filter bowl is fixed to the filter head by using long Bolt which engages between filter head and filter bowl. An Adaptor is used between bowl and head as a mediator. Further a rubber gasket to prevent leakage b/w bowl and adopter. The use of long bolt that engages the filter head and the filter bowl reduces the cross-section area for fuel filtration, thereby reducing the fuel flow pressure at the outlet side of the fuel filter. Further there is a need to reduce assembly process steps and have minimum number of parts.
[0003] Patent application US4285814A “Filter bag clamp assembly” discloses a filter bag includes a side wall formed of fluid pervious material and a marginal part defining the opening into the bag formed of a flexible, shape-retaining fluid impervious material. The assembly includes a cap having the filter inlet formed therein and a ring. The bag marginal part is clamped between the ring and cap. The ring may carry a reticulated support basket for the bag or even be joined to the outer housing of the filter.
Brief description of the accompanying drawings
[0004] An embodiment of the invention is described with reference to the following accompanying drawings:
[0005] Fig. 1 depicts a filter assembly for a fuel filter (100).
Detailed description of the drawings
[0006] Figure 1 depicts a filter assembly for a fuel filter (100). The fuel filter (100) comprises a filter head (101) and at least a bowl (102). A very important non-limiting feature of the invention in the filter assembly is a clamp (103). The clamp (103) comprises a plurality of annular components. The plurality of annular components have a first mating feature (105) that engages with the filter head (101) and at least a second mating feature (106) that engages with the bowl (102). The plurality of annular components have a flange (1031) with a threaded feature (1032). The plurality of annular components are affixed to each other by means of a nut and bolt assembly (104) that engages with the threaded feature (1032) of the flange (1031). The nut and bolt assembly (104) further has a spring washer
[0007] The fuel filter (100) assembly further comprises other essential components like a rubber sealing ring set between the head (101) and the bowl (102) of the fuel filter (100). The rubber sealing rings arrests leakage if any from the fuel filter (100).
[0008] The most important non-limiting feature of this invention is the clamp. It is a dynamic component that is used to hold the filter head (101) and the bowl (102) together irrespective of the material comprising the filter head (101) and the bowl (102). For example in an embodiment the filter assembly as disclosed above, the fuel filter (100) comprises a plastic filter head (101) and plastic bowl (102). In another embodiment of the filter assembly as disclosed above, the fuel filter (100) comprises a metallic filter head (101) and a metallic bowl (102). The plurality of annular components of the clamp (103) are affixed to each other by means of a nut and bolt assembly (104) comprising a spring washer that engages with the threaded feature (1032) of the flange (1031). The spring washer is used to absorb shocks emanating due to vibrations in the engine when it is running.
[0009] This idea to develop a filter assembly for a fuel filter (100) reduces the assembly process steps and the number of components used in the assembly of the fuel filter (100). This in turn brings down the cost of the fuel filter (100). In conventional metallic filters, the filter head (101) is sealed with the bowl (102) using a face sealing. The face sealing is achieved with help of guide shank made up of steel inserted in the filter bowl (102). A long center bolt is used inside the guide shank to achieved proper sealing. In the filter assembly for a fuel filter (100) disclosed above, the need of this guide shank and the long center bolt is eliminated. Due to the absence of center bolt frictional losses in the center tube or the hollow space of the filter cartridge are reduced. Further such configuration is the filter assembly leads to a smoother and faster flow of fuel than normal, in turn increasing the efficiency.
[0010] It must be understood that the embodiments explained in the above detailed description are only illustrative and do not limit the scope of this invention. Any modification to the filter assembly for a fuel filter (100) are envisaged and form a part of this invention. The scope of this invention is limited only by the claims.
