, Description:Complete Specification:
The following specification describes and ascertains the nature of this invention and the manner in which it is to be performed.
Field of the invention
[0001] The invention relates to a fuel filter mainly used for fuel injection system.
Background of the invention
[0002] In Common rail fuel injection system, fuel tank acts as a reservoir of fuel from where the fuel is sucked into the pump. The system has a filter outside the tank to filter the fuel before it flows to the pump so that the filtered fuel flows into the system in order to increase the efficiency.
[0003] The patent application US20120103880 A1 discloses a fuel filter having integrated sensors. A fuel filter assembly for an internal combustion engine includes a molded plastic housing defining an interior filter chamber. A filter element is operatively supported in the filter chamber. Fuel is passed through the filter chamber to remove impurities. At least one sensor is operatively supported by the housing for sensing at least one condition of the fuel passing through the fuel filter. The sensor includes an element that is exposed to the fuel. A common connector terminal is adapted to provide electrical communication with a source of power. Leads extend between the element and the common connector terminal. The leads are encased in plastic substantially between the element and the common connector terminal such that the leads are sealed from contact with the fuel. The present invention is also directed toward a method of manufacturing a fuel filter for an internal combustion engine.
Brief description of the accompanying drawings:
[0004] Different modes of the invention are disclosed in detail in the description and illustrated in the accompanying drawing:
[0005] FIG. 1 illustrates a view of a fuel filter according to an embodiment in the invention.
Detailed description of the embodiments
[0006] Figure 1 illustrates a fuel filter 100 according to an embodiment of the disclosure. The fuel filter 100 has a housing 101. The housing 101 comprises an inlet 101a and an outlet 101b. The inlet 101a is adapted to receive a fluid from a source. The housing 101 comprises a filter element 102 dividing the housing 101 into a filtered portion 102a and a non-filtered portion 102b. The fluid enters in the non-filtered portion 102b via the inlet 101a and flows to the filter element 102. The housing 101 of the fuel filter 100 further comprises a sensing means 103 and a pumping means 104. The sensing means 103 is located inside the filtered portion 102b of the fuel filter 100. The pumping means 104 is located inside the housing 101. The pumping means 104 is adapted to pump the fuel from the source to the non-filtered portion 102b based on the signal from the sensing means 103.
[0007] According to an embodiment of the invention, the pumping means 104 comprises an inlet, an outlet, a gear pump and a controller. The pumping means 104 is located in the housing 101 of the fuel filter 100 in such a way that the inlet 101a of the pumping means 104 pumps the fuel from the tank. The fuel from the inlet 101a of the pumping means 104 flows to the non-filtered portion 102b of the housing 101 of the fuel filter 100 from where it flows to the filtered portion 102a after being filtered from the filter element 102.
[0008] According to an embodiment of the invention, in the fuel filter 100, the sensing means 103 is chosen from a group of sensors comprising a level sensor for example capacitance level sensor, ultrasonic level sensor etc. Here the sensing means 103 is not limited to any type of level sensor but to any sensor used for sensing the level of the fuel. The sensing means 103 is located into the filtered portion 102a so whenever the level of filtered fuel fluctuates, the sensing means 103 senses the level change.
[0009] In the fuel filter 100, the pumping means 104 is operated based on the signal from the sensing means 103 to the controller. Therefore when the controller receives the signal from sensing means 103, the pumping means 104 is operated. The sensing means 103 gives signal to the controller of the pumping means 104 whenever there is fluctuation in the level of fuel in the fuel filter 100.
[0010] The working of the fuel filter 100 is disclosed here. The fuel from the source enters into the non-filtered portion 102b and flows to the filtered portion 102a after filtration. From filtered portion 102a fuel flows to the inlet of the pump based on the requirement. The sensing means 103 continuously sense the level of fuel in filtered portion 102a whenever the level goes down the pumping means 104 pumps the fuel from the source. So to maintain the level of filtered fuel into the fuel filter 100.
[0011] By using this type of fuel filter 100, the complete usage of filter element 102 is ensured. The common issue of air trapped into the empty portion of the fuel filter 100 is avoided by using this kind of the fuel filter 100, as every time there will be fuel into the filtered portion 102a until the outlet 101b. This in turn increases the system efficiency. This type of fuel filter 100 ensures that the fuel is always present in the fuel filter. The time consumption is reduces as during the start of the fuel injection system, no time is wasted for the first filing.
[0012] ‘Adapted’ or ‘arranged’, in the context of the instant disclosure, refers to the technical capability or the technical capacity of a component, in relation to which the term ‘adapted’ or ‘arranged’ is used, to carry out or executed a specified action or actions, upon the requirement of the specified action or actions to be carried out or executed. Moreover, the usage of the term ‘adapted’ or ‘arranged’ here, is in reference with the normal technical capability or technical capacity of the component, imparted by the design or the structure or the composition of the component, and not in reference with any special or extraneous capability or capacity, beyond the scope of the normal technical capability or technical capacity. Therefore, there is a need to address this problem
[0013] It should be understood that embodiments explained in the description above are only illustrative and do not limit the scope of this invention. Many such embodiments and other modifications and changes in the embodiment explained in the description are envisaged. The scope of the invention is only limited by the scope of the claims.
