Specification

Description:Complete Specification:

The following specification describes and ascertains the nature of this invention and the manner in which it is to be performed.
Field of the invention
[0001] The present disclosure relates to a fuel injector and more specifically to a new incisal edge introduced in the nozzle nut of the fuel injector.

Background of the invention
[0002] A vehicle's fuel injection system is responsible for injecting fuel into the engine cylinders, where the gas is burned to produce engine power. A leaky fuel injector, which is a common fuel injection system problem, can significantly compromise engine performance and produce a variety of symptoms.

[0003] A fuel injector leak can disrupt the normal flow of fuel into a vehicle's engine cylinders, which can cause improper or incomplete engine combustion. When this happens, a rough or erratic engine idle can be the result.
Engine hesitation often occurs as the result of abnormal engine combustion. A leaky fuel injector can cause an engine to hesitate if the injector reduces engine fuel flow enough to impede normal engine combustion.
[0004] A leaky fuel injector wastes gas and can significantly reduce vehicle gas mileage if the leak is bad enough. Severe fuel injector leaks allow large amounts of fuel to be wasted rather than reach the engine where the fuel is combined with air and burned.
[0005]If a leaky fuel injector causes an excessive amount of fuel to leak onto the hot surfaces of the engine intake manifold or engine block, the fuel can ignite and cause an engine fire.

Brief description of the accompanying drawings
[0002] An embodiment of the disclosure is described with reference to the following accompanying drawings,
[0003] Figure 1 illustrates a fuel injection pump in accordance with an embodiment of the invention.
[0004] Figure 2 illustrates a sectional zoomed-in view of the fuel injection pump in accordance with an embodiment of our invention.
Detailed description of the drawings
[0005] Figure 2 illustrates a fuel injector (200) for a common rail fuel injection system.
[0006] In the existing design, there is surface contact between nozzle nut bottom face & sealing washer interface. Depending on the surface roughness of this interface there is possibility of combustion gas leakage onto injector outer body surface.

[0007] In order to arrest the combustion gas leakage, an incisal edge (212) is provided on the nozzle nut bottom face (210a), which positively arrests the combustion gas leakage onto injector body. The combustion gas leakage is arrested as the provided incisal edge (212) on the bottom face (210a) of the nozzle nut (210) acts as a leakage stopper.

[0008] The incisal edge (212) provided on nozzle nut bottom face (210a) impinges into sealing washer (215) during injector clamping. Sealing washer (215) deforms same as nozzle nut bottom face (210a) profile due to impingement and thus provides positive sealing for combustion gas leakage onto injector body.

[0009] The advantages of arresting of combustion gas leakage include reduction of power loss. Safety concerns can also be avoided, because in worst case combustion gas leakage can lead to safety issues like firing etc. Field complaints will also be lessened.
[0010] It must be understood that the embodiments explained in the above detailed description are only illustrative and do not limit the scope of this invention. Any modification to the fuel injection pump are envisaged and form a part of this invention. The scope of this invention is limited only by the claims
