,TagSPECI:Field of the invention
[001] This invention relates to a fuel supply device for an internal combustion engine.
Background of the invention
[002] Indian patent application number 475/CHE/2012 discloses a fuel supply device. The fuel supply device comprises a fuel distributor block. The fuel distributor block has at least three threaded interfaces. A first threaded interface is provided corresponding to the first bore opening of the fuel distributor block. The first threaded interface acts as the inlet for the high pressure fuel coming from a fuel pump outlet.
Brief description of the accompanying drawings
[003] Different modes of the invention are disclosed in detail in the description and illustrated in the accompanying drawing:
[004] Figure 1 illustrates a fuel supply device in accordance with this disclosure.
Detailed description of the invention
[005] Figure 1 illustrates a fuel supply device 10 in accordance with this disclosure. The fuel supply device 10 for an internal combustion engine comprises a fuel distributor block 12 and a mounting block 14. The fuel distributor block 12 comprises a fuel receiving end 16 adapted to receive fuel from a fuel pump. The fuel receiving end 16 of the fuel distributor block 12 fitted to the mounting block 14 and the mounting block 14 adapted to be fitted to the fuel pump.
[006] In accordance with one embodiment of the fuel supply device 10 the construction of the fuel supply device 10 can be explained as follows. The fuel distributor block 12 is slidably fitted to the mounting block. At least one sealing member 18 is provided along the interface between the fuel distributor block 12 and the mounting block 14. The sealing member 18 may be at least one chosen from a group of sealing members such as O-ring, split ring and the like. Since the fuel distributor block 12 is slidably fit to the mounting block 14, there is no thread provided on the surface of the fuel receiving end 16 of the fuel distributor block 12 in contact with the internal surface of the mounting block. The mounting block 14 is provided with external threads adapted to be fitted to the fuel pump. In the assembled configuration of the fuel supply device 10 at least a part of the fuel receiving end 16 extends from the mounting block 14 as seen in figure 1. At least a part of the fuel receiving end 16 extending from the mounting block 14 is provided with a biting edge. In the assembled configuration of the fuel supply device 10 the sealing member prevents axial movement of the fuel distributor block 12 with respect to the mounting block 14. However, the sealing member allows for free rotational movement of the mounting block 14 with respect to the fuel distributor block 12.
[007] In accordance with another embodiment of the fuel supply device 10 the construction of the fuel supply device 10 can be explained as follows. The fuel distributor block 12 is screw fitted to the mounting block 14. At least one sealing member 18 is provided along the interface between the fuel distributor block 12 and the mounting block 14. The sealing member 18 may be at least one chosen from a group of sealing members such as O-ring, split ring and the like. For screw fitting the fuel distributor block 12 to the mouting block 14 the fuel receiving end 16 of the fuel distributor block has external threading. For receiving the threaded fuel receiving end 16 of the fuel distributor block 12, the mounting block 14 has internal threads. The mounting block 14 has external threads adapted to be screw fitted to the fuel pump. In the assembled configuration of the fuel supply device 10 at least a part of the fuel receiving end 16 extends from the mounting block 14 as seen in figure 1. At least a part of the fuel receiving end 16 extending from the mounting block 14 is provided with a biting edge.
[008] The fitting of the fuel supply device 10 to a fuel pump can be explained as follows. As mentioned earlier in the assembled configuration of the fuel supply device 10 at least a part of the fuel receiving end 16 extends from the mounting block 14. While fitting the assembled configuration of the fuel supply device 10 to the fuel pump the part of the fuel receiving end 16 extending from the mounting block 14 abuts against the pump interface. The biting edge of the fuel receiving end abuts the pump interface. During fitting the fuel distributor block 12 is held in position and the mounting block 14 meshes with the threads on the pump. While tightening the mounting block undergoes both rotational and downward motion. One of advantages of the fuel supply device in accordance with this disclosure is that since the mounting block 14 is free to rotate about the fuel distributor block, the orientation of the fuel distributor block 12 can be maintained in a desired position while tightening the mounting block 12 to the fuel pump. Maintaining the desired orientation is very important as the further connection/orientation for the delivery of the high pressure fuel cannot be changed. Hence the fuel supply device being able to retain or attain a desired orientation is achieved through the fuel supply device in accordance with this disclosure. The biting edge provided on the surface of the fuel receiving end 16 in contact with the pump interface ensures high pressure sealing at the pump interface.
[009] It must be understood that the description provided above is only illustrative of the different embodiments and does not limit the scope of this disclosure in terms of size or shape of the fuel distributor block and the mounting block and in terms of type of sealing member used. The scope of the invention is only limited by the scope of the claims. Many modifications to the embodiments disclosed above are envisages and lie within the scope of this disclosure.
