Abstract: The invention here is a method 100 of controlling a vehicle when the vehicle is moving in an unauthorized path. The method 100 comprising of following steps: - detecting 101 movement of the vehicle along the unauthorized path by a navigation device, generating 102 an alert by a control unit based on the movement detected by the navigation device and controlling 103 an engine of the vehicle by the control unit based on time elapsed from the generation of the alert. Here the invention also involves a control unit.
Claims:We Claim:
1. A method (100) of controlling a vehicle, when said vehicle is moving in an unauthorized path, said method comprising:
detecting (101) movement of said vehicle along said unauthorized path by a navigation device;
generating (102) an alert by a control unit based on said movement detected by said navigation device;
characterized in that:
controlling (103) an engine of said vehicle by said control unit based on time elapsed from said generation of said alert.
2. A method (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein said controlling (103) of an engine can be stopping of vehicle.
3. A control unit in a vehicle, said control unit adapted to
generate an alert based on the input received from a navigation device, and
control an engine of said vehicle based on the time elapsed after said generated alerts.
4. A control unit as claimed in claim 3, wherein said time elapsed is predefined.
, Description:Complete Specification:
The following specification describes and ascertains the nature of this invention and the manner in which it is to be performed.
Field of the invention
[0001] The invention here relates to a method of controlling a vehicle and a control unit in a vehicle.
Background of the invention
[0002] The navigation system in a vehicle has several functions. One is to generate an alert if a vehicle is driven in a wrong way by either audio or visual warnings or both. An alert may or may not work and also can be easily ignored by the user of the vehicle.
[0003] The patent application EP0919815 discloses a device and a system for warning road users of motorists driving against the traffic. To do this the device comprises: a detection means to determine the direction of travel of a vehicle using reflected radar waves and a warning means for emitting a visual warning preferably in the form of a symbol which lights up. In the event of a motorists driving against the traffic being detected, the detection means emit an alarm signal which depending on a passage detector can be transmitted wirelessly to following warning signals and signaling posts which are positioned along a road.
Brief description of the accompanying drawings:
[0004] Different modes of the invention are disclosed in detail in the description and illustrated in the accompanying drawing:
[0005] FIG. 1 illustrates a method 100 of controlling a vehicle according to an embodiment in an invention;
Detailed description of the embodiments
[0006] Figure 1 shows method 100 of controlling a vehicle, when the vehicle is moving in an unauthorized path. The method 100 comprises of following steps: - In step S1, movement of the vehicle is detected 101 along an unauthorized path by a navigation device. In step S2, an alert by a control unit is generated 102 based on the movement detected by the navigation device. In step S3, an engine of the vehicle is controlled 103 by the control unit based on time elapsed from the generation of alert.
[0007] The authorized path is a unidirectional road where usually one-way traffic is followed. So if the vehicle is moving in opposite direction in a unidirectional road then the path is considered as an unauthorized path by the navigation device. In the navigation device, based on the availability of the information regarding unauthorized path, the control unit generates 102 alert when the vehicle is moving in the unauthorized path. Control unit generates 102 alert to draw attention of the driver about the unauthorized path followed by him.
[0008] The alert generated 102 by the control unit can be a visual warning. The alert generated 102 by the control device can also be an audio warning. The visual warning is displayed on the dashboard of the vehicle. The alerts are generated 102 at a predefined interval of time. For example if the predefined time is 10 seconds. So, after the control unit generates one alert, next alert is generated 102 after 10seconds and so on. In addition, the frequency of generated 102 alerts are fixed.
[0009] In a vehicle, an electronic control unit is present which takes care of the safety of the vehicle. Here the function of the control unit is an additional feature to the existing control unit. Controlling an engine refers to a function of the control unit where one function is to stop the vehicle by cutting down the ignition of the engine of the vehicle.
[0010] here if the vehicle continues in an unauthorized lane after the number of alerts then the control unit will discontinue the ignition, which in turn switches off the vehicle. In addition, the restart of the vehicle will only take place when there will be reverse or opposite direction movement in a vehicle.
[0011] A control unit in a vehicle, the control unit is adapted to generate an alert based on the input received from a navigation device and control an engine of the vehicle based on the time elapsed after the generated alerts. In the control unit, the time elapsed is pre-specified.
[0012] It should be understood that embodiments explained in the description above are only illustrative and do not limit the scope of this invention. Many such embodiments and other modifications and changes in the embodiment explained in the description are envisaged. The scope of the invention is only limited by the scope of the claims.
