"A Novel Isoindole Alkaloid From Viola Odorata"

Abstract: The present invention relates to compounds of Formula I. The present invention also relates to the alkaloid compound of Formula II and the method of isolating it from the plant Viola Odorata. The invention is also directed to the use of the compounds of Formula I and II for the treatment of diseases caused due to insulin resistance such as diabetes and related complications including hyperglycemia, impaired glucose tolerance, insulin resistance syndrome, and other disorders. Also, present invention is directed to the use of the compounds of Formula I and II for the treatment of inflammatory conditions such as AIDS, asthma, arthritis, bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), psoriasis, allergic rhinitis, shock, atopic dermatitis, Crohn"s disease, adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), eosinophilic granuloma, allergic conjunctivitis, osteoarthritis or ulcerative colitis. The invention is also directed to the use of the compounds of Formula I and II for the treatment of cancer. Compound of Formula II described in the present invention is characterised by spectroscopic data.
