A PERSONAL CARE COMPOSITION
FIELD OF INVENTION
[0001] The embodiments herein generally relate to a personal care composition and
more particularly to a hair care composition that helps in hair care by providing
enhanced natural index.
BACKGROUND AND PRIOR ART
[0002] Personal care products are used for personal hygiene and beautification
purpose. Personal care product includes, for example, skin moisturizers, perfumes,
10 lipsticks, fingernail polishes, eye and facial makeup preparations, shampoos,
permanent waves, hair colors, toothpastes, and deodorants. Hair care is very
important to prevent hair from damaging as well as from fungal attack. Dandruff
appears to be one of a major causative agent for hair fall by affecting the scalp.
[0003] Currently, there are several methods and products for hair care, especially for
preventing and treating dandruff. Zinc pyrithione is a well known and widely used
active anti-dandruff and anti-fungal component of shampoos. However, zinc
pyrithione in combination with lipids and other preservatives (thiazolinone) are used
for treating dandruff. It is known that microbiological contamination can result in
poor shelf life and aesthetics of shampoos. Accordingly, preservatives are usually
added to the shampoo composition during the manufacture of the shampoo to reduce
or eliminate such contamination. As a result, preservatives are added to zinc pyrithione shampoo composition for keeping the shampoo active and protect from microbial contamination.
[0004] However, a problem with adding a synthetic preservative to zinc pyrithione shampoo composition is that the ingredients present in the shampoo composition may react adversely with the synthetic preservative and may undergo undesirable chemical changes and thereby may reduce its activity. Specifically, it has been found that zinc pyrithione reacts adversely with some synthetic preservatives that reduce its activity and in turn its ability to prevent or reduce microbiological contamination. Natural preservative are capable of controlling microbial activity, as well as retarding and eliminating the growth of topical pathogens and microbes and also capable of eliminating undesirable chemical changes when added to shampoo compositions. Therefore, inclusion of a natural preservative to the zinc pyrithione shampoo composition allows the shampoo composition to stay active and also protects from microbial contamination effectively and thereby eliminating any undesired chemical changes. Radish root ferment is a natural preservative widely used in skin care products. Radish root ferment as a preservative is water soluble, odorless and heat stable up to 60 degrees Celsius. It is known to have a wide spectrum of antimicrobial application and blends perfectly with other compounds. It is quite mild and has very low to no potential for irritation.
[0005] Therefore, there is a need for providing a personal care composition, more particularly a hair care composition comprising zinc pyrithione salt in combination with a natural preservative for enhancing natural index and attaining good anti-dandruff and anti-fungal efficacy without side effects.
