[0003] An embodiment of the disclosure is described with reference to the following accompanying drawing,
[0004] Fig. 1 illustrates a sealing member, according to an embodiment of the present invention, and
[0005] Fig. 2 illustrates an exploded view of housing of a battery pack, according to an embodiment of the present invention.
Detailed description of the embodiments:
Fig. 1 illustrates a sealing member, according to an embodiment of the present invention. The sealing member 100 to be located between a first part 112 and a second part 114. The sealing member 100 comprises, a first portion 104 having a loop member with lips 102, characterized in that, the sealing member 100 comprises a second portion 106 extending perpendicularly from the first portion 104 in the same direction as that of the lips 102, and integrally formed with the first portion 104. The first portion 104 and the second portion 106 together seals the first part 112 and the second part 114 in radial and axial manner respectively. Further, each of the at least two lips 102 tapers to any one of a rounded end profile and a hook end profile 116. The at least two lips 102 comprises predetermined gap between each other.
[0006] In an embodiment, the second portion 106 comprises a micro-bead 108 on a surface facing towards the lips 102 of the first portion 104. The micro-bead 108 is provided along the loop or in pairs opposite to each other. Further, the micro-bead may be provided in loop as well.
[0007] The sealing member 100 is positioned on any one of a groove and a flange 208 provided on any one of the first part 112 and the second part 114. The first part 112 is any one selected from a lid, a cover and a cap, and the second part 114 is any one selected from a one side open casing 204, two sides open casing 204 and a container/vessel/receptacle.
[0008] Now different views in Fig. 1 are explained. A first diagram illustrates the sealing member 100 in perspective view. A second diagram illustrates a side view of the sealing member 100. The sealing member 100 is shown to have two lips 102, however the number of lips 102 is configurable based on requirement such as, one, three, four, etc. A third diagram 110, a fourth diagram 120 and a fifth diagram 130 illustrates the assembling process through cross-sectional views. The sealing member 100 is fixed to a sealing surface of the first part 112, where the lips 102 points/directed outward. In the third diagram 110, the first part 112 is shown in a position before being fixed to the second part 114. In the fourth diagram 120, the second part 114 is assembled, and the micro-bead 108 helps in positioning the fixation along with providing firm fitting and additional sealing effect. The lips 102 are not shown deformed for simplicity in understanding of the micro-bead 108. However, in the fifth diagram 130, the lips 102 are shown deformed which is apparent when the first part 112 and the second part 114 are interfaced together and sealed. The micro-bead 108 defines the minimum contact pressure between the interfaces of the first part 112 and the second part 114.
[0009] The sealing member 100 protects the first part 112 and the second part 114 and any content therein from external ingress from water, oil, dust, grease, etc. An axial and radial seal configuration has been integrated with the micro-bead 108 as smart positioning at the interface area. The sealing member 100 is adaptable between the first part 112 and the second part 114. The first part 112 and the second part 114 may be made of different material or combination, such as plastic, metal, alloy, and the like.
[0010] A sixth view 140 is illustrates an embodiment of the sealing member 100, which discloses the hook end profile 116 of the lips 102. An integrated hook design at the corner of the lips 102 further reduces the assembly force during interfacing/joining of the first part 112 and the second part 114.
[0011] In accordance to an embodiment of the present invention, the at least two lips 102 are provided on any one of an internal surface and an external surface of the sealing member 100. In the internal surface, the lips 102 point/directed towards a virtual central axis of the sealing member 100. In the external surface, the lips 102 point/direct away from the virtual central axis of the sealing member 100. The Fig. 1 is shows the sealing member 100 with lips 102 on the external surface.
[0012] In accordance to an embodiment of the present invention, the sealing member 100 is usable for a storage container. The storage container comprises a lid and one side open receptacle/vessel. The sealing member 100 is positioned in a groove of the lid. Alternatively, the sealing member 100 is provided on an edge profile/perimeter of the receptacle. The storage container is usable to store items such as automotive parts, perishable items for storage in refrigerator, and other items as per the field in which it is to be used. The sealing member 100 is of size as required.
[0013] Fig. 2 illustrates an exploded view of housing of a battery pack, according to an embodiment of the present invention. The sealing member 100 is used in a housing 200 of a battery pack, wherein the housing 200 comprises a first cap 202, a second cap 206 as the first parts 112, and a two side open casing 204 as the second part 114. The sealing member 100 is positioned on a flange 208 of at least one of the first cap 202 and the second cap 206. Alternatively, the sealing member 100 is positioned around the internal surface of the casing 204. In an embodiment, only one side open casing 204 is used, in which case only one of the first cap 202 and the second cap 206 is required.
[0014] In accordance to an embodiment of the present invention, the sealing member 100 is provided for the housing 200 of the battery pack. The sealing member 100 is positioned between the ends of the casing 204 and at least one of the first cap 202 and the second cap 206.
[0015] The sealing member 100 is not limited to be used only with the housing 200 of the battery pack, but in all applications where a sealing is required between two interfacing surfaces. The sealing member 100 is replaceable from the battery pack depending upon use case.
[0016] The sealing member 100 is suitable for better sealing solutions and provides following characteristics and behaviors comprising improved corrosion creep resistance, better contact pressure between lips 102 and the contact surface of the casing 204 (such as aluminum or plastic), least stress/strain state at lips roots, effective mounting forces, no deformation in the housing 200 during assembly, no deformation of the first cap 202 (including Printed Circuit Board (PCB) holding the battery controller) during assembly and lifetime, indication of keel over during assembly, and no formation of pores and shrink holes in Thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) during manufacturing and no mismatch due to different co-efficient of thermal expansion (CTE) of assembled components.
[0017] In accordance to an embodiment of the present invention, an inverted modular lip sealing member 100 (also known as gasket) and micro-bead 108 thereon is provided. The sealing member 100 provides desired sealing between the first part 112 (made of plastic or other material) and the second part 114 (made of aluminum or other material). The example of material is for explanation, and other materials (or combinations) are equally usable. The micro-bead 108 within the sealing member 100 helps in better positioning. In case of battery packs, the casing 204 is openable without destruction during degassing the battery pack and compensates any irregularities in the housing 200.
[0018] It should be understood that embodiments explained in the description above are only illustrative and do not limit the scope of this invention. Many such embodiments and other modifications and changes in the embodiment explained in the description are envisaged. The scope of the invention is only limited by the scope of the claims.
