-2-FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention relates to a seat assembly. In particular, though not limited thereto, this invention relates to a seat assembly for use in a crane or a compactor.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
It is generally known that compactors have a seat assembly. Normally, such a seat assembly is provided on the operator's platform of the compactor. The known seat assemblies allowed a movement only in a single direction, which normally is the forward and rear directions. However, the driver often requires to work on the side of the compactor, and for which a movement is required to either side of the compactor.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
An object of this invention is to propose a novel construction of a seat assembly particularly for use for example in a compactor.

Another object of this invention is to propose a seat assembly which allows a movement of the seat in the transverse and longitudinal directions.
Another object of this invention is to propose a compactor seat assembly for use in a compactor which is efficient.
Further objects and advantages of this invention will be more apparent from the ensuing description.
STATEMENT OF INVENTION
According to this invention there is provided a seat assembly for use in a crane of a compactor comprising a platform having a pair of first rails, the underside of said seat having slidably engaging means to allow movement of the seat along, said first direction, said platform slidably mounted on a pair of second rails and below of said platform, said platform having slidable engaging means with said second rails and to allow a movement of said seat assembly in a second direction.

Reference may be made to the accompanying drawing wherein a seat assembly, such as for use in a compactor, comprising a platform(l) having a pair of first rails (2), the underside of said seat (3) having slidably engaging means (4) to allow a movement of the seat along said first direction, said platform slidably mounted on a pair of second rails (5) and below of said platform, said platform having slidable engaging means (6) with said. second rails and to allow a movement of said seat assembly in a second direction.

Reference is made herein to a first direction as a transverse direction and to a second direction as longitudinal direction. However, such a reference is only by way of example in that the first direction can be the longitudinal direction and the second direction as the transverse direction.
In accordance with this invention, the seat is mounted on a platform having a pair of rails extending in a first direction, namely the transverse direction. The seat has engaging means to slidably engage the transverse rails so as to allow a movement of the seat assembly in the transverse direction. Such a movement in the transverse direction allows an operator to work on the side, of the compactor.
The platform is mounted on a lower pair of rails in the longitudinal direction. The platform has engageable means to allow a slidable engagement of the platform with said lower pair of rails and allow a movement of the seat in the second or longitudinal direction.

It is to be noted that the present invention is susceptible to modifications, adaptations and changes by those skilled in the art. Such variant embodiments employing the concepts and features of this invention are intended to be within the scope of the present invention, which is further set forth under the following claims:-

1. A seat assembly for use in a crane or a compactor Comprising a
platform having a pair of first rails, the underside of said seat
having slidably engaging means to allow movement of the seat
along said first direction, said platform slidably mounted on a pair
of second rails and below of said platform, said platform having
slidable engaging means with said second rails and to allow a
movement of said seat assembly in a second direction.
2. A seat assembly as claimed in claim 1 wherein the first and second
direction may be longitudinal/transverse.
3. A seat assembly for use in a crane or a compactor substantially as
herein described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
