Abstract: Title: A System and Method for Storage in Television Remotes This Embodiment is related to the System and Method of design for giving storage and connectivity options in Television Remote. The Digital TV and High Definition TV's offer television with the hard disk or flash storage with USB and other interfaces. In those televisions, user can view and store the programs and movies what ever they want. But if any crashes happen in the television hard disk or the television, there is no option to retrieve our unforgettable moments and programs. This Patent brings out the embodiments for the above by giving storage backup in television remotes including the connectivity interfaces within that remote.
Background of the Invention
Field of the Invention
This embodiment is related to the system and method of storage backup in television remotes for Digital, High Definition and other televisions, which has storage options. This design has connection and connectivity by wired and short-range wireless. This invention design of remote can used to store and transfer data between television storage disk, Television Remote storage and other external storage devices.
Description of the Related Art
The present generation Digital TV and High Definition TV's offer television with the hard disk or flash storage and the user can view and store the programs and movies what ever he wants. The new televisions have the features like USB interfaces and some companies provide Internet also in their Digital TV.
If any crashes happen in the television hard disk or the television itself damaged means, there is no option to retrieve our unforgettable moments and programs. Normally in systems, we will make some backup arrangements like network server storage, CD/DVD backup or online backup like that. But in televisions the backup option is not readily possible.
The most of the previous inventions explained the concept like Remote controller with wireless phone [CN 2627765Y, 2004], Water heater [JP 20346442A2] and display screen [GB 2343073A, 2000]. Some inventions describes about the multifunctional facility [WO 070212A1, 2006] of the television remote controller also. The one remote controller is used to operate Air-condition, Refrigerator, DVD/VCD player, Oven etc., including television.
There is no previous invention like to have storage arrangements in television remote controller with wired and wireless connectivity.
Summary of the Invention
This present embodiment is related to the system and method for the television storage backup by providing the flash storage option in the television remotes. Every television has a remote to operate and tune the channels. In this design, the television remote has flash type storage like pen drive about some 10-40 GB's. It also has the short-range wireless connectivity to the television like Blue tooth, IR etc. In this new embodiment the user can transfer the data from remote to some other storage devices like USB drive, memory card and mobile phone using the separate connectivity arrangements in the television remotes.
This novel method of design for this scenario, the television remote should have the following inner and outer parts.
Inner parts:
• Operating System
• Permanent Flash storage
• Processor/Controller
• Voltage/detector Reset
• Recharging Battery Outer/Viewable Parts:
• Channel & Menu selection switch
• Volume & Menu selection switch
• Power/Charger Indicator (LED)
• Charger connector
• Menu
• Display (LCD)
• IR Connectivity
• Bluetooth Cormectivity
• USB Connectivity
• Memory Card Reader
All Digital TV's have USB, Bluetooth and IR connectivity. So using this method of design, user can easily store most important data's, pictures in their TV remotes like the server backup from their TV hard disk. This design provides wired and wireless connectivity options to user to connect the television with remote like IR, Bluetooth and Direct USB connections. The first two are wireless, it will be somewhat slower then the direct wired connection.
The method of design of Remote has the LCD display and menu bar for easy accessing. Moreover it has a channel selection (Up/Down) and volume selection (Right/left) switches like a normal television remotes. User can use menu selection switch (Left/Right and Up/Down) to select the menu and the center button in the switch is used to enter that menu. It can be a touch screen also. The remote can take the power Irom the rechargeable battery.
This design of television remote has it's own Operating System, Processor/Controller and Permanent Flash Storage. The operating system is acting as an intermediate between processor and display. Depends upon the completion of design, the manufactures can use the fixed micro controller or processor to access the memory and user inputs. The voltage/device detector is used to control the plug and play of USB, Memory card and charging device.
Brief Description of Accompanying Drawings
In the drawings:
Figure-1 represents the main block diagram of the system of invention having the representation of Television Remote with the functional parts like Channel and Volume selection switch. Power Indication, Menu, Menu selection Switch, Charger Cormector, Card Reader, USB Connectivity, Display and IR & bluetooth connectivity.
Figure-2 represents the television having the IR and Bluetooth receiver for getting commands/signals from television remote.
Detailed Description of the invention with Reference to Accompanying Drawings
The Figure-1 describes the complete illustrate view of the invention system with the representation of the functional parts like Charmel and Volume selection switch 101, Power Indication 102, Menu 103, Menu selection Switch 104, Charger Cormector 105, Card Reader 106, USB Connectivity 107, IR, bluetooth and other Short-range wireless connectivity 108 and Display 109.
This embodiment is using a common television remote controller to perform a storage solution for Digital televisions. The Channel and Volume selection switch 101 and the menu switches 103 used for the initial main purposes like to select the channel, control the volume, picture screen adjustments and other normal television controls. The Menu selection switch 104 used to control the storage solution. To control the store and retrieve options from television to remote and remote to other storage devices like USB drive, memory card and mobile phone etc..
Most of the Digital Television itself has an option for internal storage. So this remote design should have the control for selecting that internal television storage and the remote controller storage. Whenever the user wants store some programs in television, he/she uses this menu 103 and display 109 options to select to store wherever he wants either in television or remote. If the user selects the remote storage option, he/she needs to select the storage device connectivity also, either by wired or wireless. The user can use this remote storage option at the time of program running or can transfer the data from television storage to remote storage and vice-versa by any time. The data transfer happening from television and remote over IR and Bluetooth 108 (Wireless) and USB cable connectivity 107 (Wired).
The USB connectivity 107 and Memory card reader of remote used to connect the external data travelers to store and retrieve the data from it. This inventory design method of television remote has it's own Operating System, Processor/Controller and Permanent
Flash Storage. The Operating System is acting as an intermediate between processor and display. The voltage and device detector is used to control the plug and play of USB, Memory card and charging device. This design has a charger connection for recharging battery. This design of remote may be like; the power has taken from fixed battery, USB charger, sunlight and all other possible resources.
This invention design of remote has the extended feature of displaying the content of Memory card or mobile phone in television via the remote over wire or wireless connectivity. The remote having card reader can read/write all types of flash based memory cards.
This method of remote controller design has the feature to transfer data from television to connected storage, which is connected with the remote. We can transfer data directly from television to card reader/connected USB device and vice-versa using the menu options 103.
