FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a system and method for producing customized
movie using still pictures In particular the invention relates to making a
customized movie using still pictures with inputs, like episode names, picture
category and audio tag, associated with the digital pictures, the inputs being
extracted by a display device like a PC / DVD / VCD / DTV / Digital Album.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
Pictures taken by digital camera / devices are generally transferred to a PC /
DVD / VCD / DTV / Digital Album for viewing there. Using the PC one can also e-
mail the photographs and transfer them to other devices The costs of digital
cameras, hard drives and other storage devices have come down drastically
Also, after acquiring a digital camera, the cost of taking pictures is negligible

With digital cameras and phone cameras becoming very popular people are
having huge collection of pictures on their PCs Once the pictures are on the PC,
the tasks of organizing them, remembering which picture was taken in what
context, etc , are rather difficult
US Patent 6,462,778 discloses an apparatus and method for processing digital
images and provides descriptive data with digital image files. The user can
select one or more of the descriptive terms from a displayed menu, which can,
for example, be used for displaying with the digital image or for generating a file
name The digital device may also accept audio inputs from the user on the
descriptive labels into a microphone The descriptive terms can be extracted
from the audio input by the method of speech processing A GPS system can
also be used for obtaining information on location determination and associating
alphanumeric location labels to the digital images In this document a
predefined set of captions can be added to the photos, which will be displayed
on the photographs, without grouping when they are played This document
however, does not allow viewing of photographs of a particular caption on some
other playing device

Document US 2004/0205286 Al discloses a digital camera for capturing digital
images that can also group and categorize the captured images A first group of
digital images captured are stored in corresponding digital image files in its
memory. In response to a user input subsequently captured digital images are
designated as a second group of digital images This second group of images
are stored in the corresponding digital image file of the camera memory and a
single control file is stored in the memory separate from the digital image files
containing data identifiable as the first and second groups of digital images
As described in Patent US 2004/0205286 digital cameras having the functionality
to specify an episode name All the pictures taken subsequent to this point will
become part of this episode, till the user specifies a new episode name Right
after taking the pictures, user can also specify if the picture is Excellent, Very
Good, Good, Average or Poor quality When the camera is connected to a PC,
the photos will be transferred to the PC But this valuable data associated with
digital pictures is not being utilized further.

In this document the user can view all the pictures of a particular episode after
downloading onto a PC or other device. The group names of the pictures are
provided for using them to upload group names on the web or for viewing them
in a slide show
The group specified by the user can only be used by the specified application If
the pictures of a particular episode are to be viewed on another PC or device, the
application recommended in this document has to be incorporated in that PC or
device.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The main object of the present invention is to organize digital images
(photographs) in the form of customized movie using user configuration
application for viewing on a display device like a PC, DVD, VCD, DTV or Digital
Album.

Another object of the present invention is to provide an application on PC / DVD
/ VCD / DTV / Digital Album to make a customized movie file in a standard
format by extracting information like episode name, picture category and audio
tag associated with the pictures from the digital camera device
Yet another object of the invention is to transfer easily the created movie file to
any other devices or e-mail it for viewing by anyone with a standard movie
player can view the pictures
In the present invention an application provided on a PC / DVD / VCD / DTV /
Digital Album which will extract episode name, category, and audio tag to make
customized movie This can have different types of combinations to make
customized movie using pictures data So if one wants to e-mail or transfer
pictures of a particular event to friends just one movie file needs to be selected
rather than selecting a bunch of photographs individually from huge collection of
photographs

In a preferred embodiment the present invention provides a system for
producing customized movie using still pictures, comprising, a digital camera
device for capturing groups of digital images / pictures with information on
episode name, picture category and audio tags; a display device for receiving
inputs from said digital camera device, characterized in that said display device is
provided with means for extracting said information on episode names, pictures
category and audio tags associated with the pictures; and means for selecting
available user options and assigning configuration parameters for generating a
movie using still pictures with the associated information and the user specified
options
In another preferred embodiment the present invention provides a method for
producing customized movie using still pictures, comprising the steps of
connecting a digital camera device to a display device, downloading pictures
from said camera device along with information on episode name, audio tag and
category of pictures on to said display device; extracting said information on
episode name, category of picture, and audio tags associated with the pictures,
configuring said display device and selecting available user options and assigning
configuration parameters for making a movie; and generating a movie using still
pictures with the associated information and the user specified options.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
As shown in Figure 1 the structure of the systems of the present invention for
producing customized movie comprises elements like the pictures taken from
digital camera devices, represented by Block 3 Block A represents the episode
name associated with the pictures The Block for picture category designating
the pictures as (Excellent, Very Good, etc.) is designated by B. Block C
represents audio tags associated with the pictures. Block D represents other
configuration parameters / user inputs for the movie.

Block 1 represents a PC with the application of the present invention which will
include means 4 for extracting the episode name A, picture category B and audio
tag C associated with the digital pictures taken from a digital camera device 3
The system is also provided with means 5 for selecting available user options
and assigning configuration parameters for generating a movie with the digital
pictures taken from camera device 3 The generated movie file (represented by
block 2) can be stored / viewed in the display device
Thus the present invention provides a system with an application on a display
device PC / DVD / VCD / DTV / Digital Album to make a customized movie file in
a standard format and user can easily transfer this movie file to any other
devices or e-mail it for viewing by anyone with a standard movie player can view
the pictures. One can have multiple types of movie on the basis of different
configuration specified in the method of the present invention.

When the pictures from the camera of the present invention are transferred to
the PC, the other information like episode name of each photo and its category
are also transferred to the PC. The application of the present invention on the
PC will extract this information to make a movie file of each episode Though
there are applications for PC that make movie files from still photographs, but
there are none that make use of information like episode name, picture category,
audio tag that came from camera to make the movie file This movie file will
have single video with selected pictures as well as audio generated through
audio tags associated with the selected pictures.
Using means 5 of the PC application, user can assign configuration parameters to
make the movie file, like specifying the maximum number of pictures in the
movie file. For example if an episode has 30 pictures then application can use
first 10, last 10 or pictures taken at regular intervals (e.g. 1, 3, 6, 9 ) or some
other user defined criteria The user can also specify if he wants to include more
than one episode in a movie file. User can generate movie file with selected
photographs in the normal order or reverse order i e photographs 10 will be

shown first, then photograph 9 and so on When making the movie, he can
specify if he wants to include only Excellent photos in the movie, or both
Excellent and Very Good and so on. User can exchange audio tags within
pictures.
The operation of the system has been shown in a flow diagram form in Figure 2.
The steps involved comprise connecting a digital camera device 2 a display
device like a PC, DVD, VCD, DTV or Digital Album The photographs associated
with their episode names, category and audio tags are downloaded on to the
display devices The episode names, category and audio tags associated with
the pictures are extracted. The application can be configured by selecting user
option and the application generates a movie file with the pictures, extracted
details and the user specified option
The extracted audio tags associated with the pictures from the digital camera
device can be used by said means 4 of the display device (PC 1) for generating
audio for the movie.

With the digital cameras and phone cameras becoming more and more popular,
people will have huge number of photographs on their PCs which they may find
difficult to organize
The present invention will make it possible for user to easily manage the
photographs and make customized movie When a user wants to view only a
selected bunch of photographs and group them together, the present application
will be very useful. All the photographs of particular event can be viewed
together, transferred to another device like a cell phone, a photo player, a PC, a
PDA, etc These photographs can be e-mailed together without a need for a
user to separately pickup the photographs.
The pictures of a particular episode or event can also be grouped together in any
other popular format. For example, instead of making a movie file, the
photographs of a particular episode can be grouped together in an html file and
this html file can be e-mailed or transferred anywhere and played anywhere
using a web browser.

WE CLAIM
1 A system for producing customized movie using still pictures, comprising.
- a digital camera device for capturing groups of digital images /
pictures with information on episode name, picture category and
audio tags,
- a display device for receiving inputs from said digital camera
device;
characterized in that said display device is provided with means for
extracting said information on episode names, picture category and
audio tags associated with the pictures, and means for selecting
available user options and assigning configuration parameters for
generating a movie using still pictures with the associated information
and the user specified options.

2 The system as claimed in claim 1, wherein said display device is a PC,
DVD, VCD, DTV or a Digital Album.
3 The system as claimed in claims 1 or 2, wherein said display device is
provided with means for generating audio for the movie from the audio
tags extracted.
4 The system as claimed in preceding claims, wherein said user options /
configuration parameters comprise specifying maximum number of
pictures in the generated movie, number of episodes, order of photograph
selection and picture category selection.
5. A method for producing customized movie using still pictures comprising
the steps of
- connecting a digital camera device to a display device;

- downloading pictures from said camera device along with
information on episode name, audio tags and category of pictures
on to said display device;
- extracting said information on episode name, category of picture,
and audio tags associated with the pictures;
- configuring said display device for selecting available user options
and assigning configuration parameters for making a movie, and
- generating a movie using still pictures with the associated
information and the user specified options
6 The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein said digital camera is
connected to a display device like a PC, DVD, VCD, DTV or a Digital Album
for downloading the pictures with said information on episode name,
audio tags and category of pictures.

7 The method as claimed in claims 5 or 6, wherein said audio tags extracted
from the pictures are used for generating audio for the movie
8. The method as claimed in claims 5 to 7, wherein said step of configuring
comprises specifying maximum number of pictures m the generated
movie, number of episodes, order of photograph selection and picture
category selection.
9. A method for generating an html file by grouping together all the pictures
of a particular episode for e-mailing said html file or for transferring the
html file to be viewed with a web browser, said method comprising the
steps of:
- connecting a digital camera device to a PC;
- downloading pictures from said camera device along with
information on episode name, audio tags and category of pictures
on to said PC;

- extracting said information on episode name, category of picture,
and audio tags associated with the pictures, and
- configuring said PC for selecting available user options and
assigning configuration parameters for making an html file using
still pictures with the associated information and the user specified
options
10. A system for producing customized movie using still pictures, substantially
as herein described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.

The main object of the present invention is to organize digital images
(photographs) in the form of customized movie using user configuration
application for viewing on a display device like a PC, DVD, VCD, DTV or Digital
Album.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an application on PC / DVD
/ VCD / DTV / Digital Album to make a customized movie file in a standard
format by extracting information like episode name, picture category and audio
tag associated with the pictures from the digital camera device.
Yet another object of the invention is to transfer easily the created movie file to
any other devices or e-mail it for viewing by anyone with a standard movie
player can view the pictures.
