FIELD OF INVENTION
[001] The present disclosure broadly relates to field of personal hygiene and particularly relates to a cleansing composition.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
[002] Surfactant-based cleansing compositions such as, body washes, face washes, shampoos, lotions, gels, typically strip off the moisture content of the skin and render the skin dry. To counteract the dryness, oils are often incorporated in to the personal care compositions. However, incorporation of high amount of oils causes phase instability, and poses challenges in building up desired viscosity. Having a desirable viscosity, and transparency, is an important attribute for cleansing compositions and is often one of the deciding factors in the way, a product is perceived by the consumer in terms of its efficacy, and quality. Compositions that are too thin (less viscous) suffer from inherent disadvantages in that these compositions have poor adherence to skin, short skin contact times and hence poor skin moisturisation. Compositions with higher viscosity are generally desirable, particularly for end applications such as shampoo, and body wash, as higher viscosity is directly linked to ease of product handling and application. However, such compositions compromise of the stability and transparency at extreme temperatures.
[003] U.S8,936,797 disclose aqueous gel type compositions, where the surfactant is thickened by addition of polymers to build up the viscosity of the formulation. However, using polymeric thickeners can alter the product performance. It may make the product stringing, sticky, and slimy. In some cases, polymers had a negative impact on foaming and cleansing performance of formulated products. In addition, polymeric thickeners are more expensive than surfactants, and they do not have desirable cost/performance efficiency in cleansing products in an appreciable manner.
[004] The formulation of personal care composition necessitates a trade-off between two conflicting physical properties. On the one hand, consumer
conception demands a higher viscosity product; while on the other hand, prefer an aesthetically appealing transparent gel product. Thus, it has been a challenge to make gel type personal care compositions, which gives excellent transparency, desired viscosity at extreme temperatures and is cost effective.

[0061] The disclosure will now be illustrated with working examples, which is intended to illustrate the working of disclosure and not intended to take
restrictively to imply any limitations on the scope of the present disclosure. Unless defined otherwise, all technical and scientific terms used herein have the same meaning as commonly understood to one of ordinary skill in the art to which this disclosure belongs. Although methods and materials similar or equivalent to those described herein can be used in the practice of the disclosed methods and compositions, the exemplary methods, devices and materials are described herein. It is to be understood that this disclosure is not limited to particular methods, and experimental conditions described, as such methods and conditions may apply. [0062] The working and non-working examples as depicted herein asserts the criticality of the weight percentages and weight ratios of surfactants, and oils as disclosed in the present disclosure. EXAMPLES Example 1
Working and Non-working examples of the formulation
[0063] Different types of working and non-working examples have been depicted in Table 1. The Table 1 has been represented in three parts namely Table 1A, Table IB, Table 1C, and Table ID.
[0064] The Table 1 A, IB, 1C, and ID depicts examples 1 to 24. The examples 2, 12, 14, 18, 21-24 represent working examples. Whereas, examples 1, 3-11, 13, 15-16, 19-20 represent non-working examples. The working examples depict the presence of surfactants, and oils within the working ranges.
[0065] The Tables depict: (a) anionic surfactant - disodium laureth sulfosuccinate, sodium lauryl sarcosinate, and sodium lauryl ether sulfate (SLES -1EO); (b) non-ionic surfactant - PEG-7 glyceryl cocoate, PEG 40 hydrogenated castor oil (PEG 40 HCO), decyl glucoside, and tween 20; (c) amphoteric surfactant -cocamidopropyl betaine (CAPB); (d) at least one oil - jojoba oil, isopropyl myristate, ylang ylang oil; and (e) at least one humectant -propylene glycol (PG), and PEG 400.
[0066] The cleansing composition comprises the following ingredients in the weight percentages mentioned below, resulting in the composition of the present disclosure: (a) at least one anionic surfactant has a weight percentage in a range of 7 - 12.35% with respect to the composition; (b) the at least non-ionic surfactant has a weight percentage in a range of 24.5 - 31.4% with respect to the composition; (c) at least amphoteric surfactant has a weight percentage in a range of 0.87 - 3.5 % with respect to the composition; (d) at least one oil consisting of a synthetic oil having a weight percentage in the range of 5-15% with respect to the composition; an essential oil is having a weight percentage of 1-7% with respect to the composition, a vegetable oil having a weight percentage in the range of 1 - 2% with respect to the composition; and (e) at least one humectant has a weight percentage in a range of 0.1 - 4% with respect to the composition. [0067] Referring to Table 1 A, IB, 1C, and ID, it can be appreciated that the non-working examples, i.e., NW1, 3-11, 13, 15-16, 19-20, are considered to be unsuitable because of the presence of high amount of vegetable oil or less amount of surfactant. As a result of which, the non-working examples suffer from poor ability to rinse or suffer from post-wash dryness. The working examples suggest compositions that have viscosity in the range of 10,000 - 45,000 cps, are in an aesthetically appealing gel form with appropriately desirable viscosity without compromising on the stability, and transparency of the cleansing formulation. This can be achieved by using a surfactants and oils in an optimum w/w ratio, without using any polymer-based thickeners. The reason for the same may be attributed to the working examples have all the components within the disclosed ranges. Example 2
Preparation of the composition
[0068] The process for preparing the disclosed composition is relatively simple. The process can be summarized in the following steps:
The non-ionic surfactants were contacted with the at least one oil in a mixer to obtain a first mixture. Subsequently, the anionic surfactants were contacted with the first mixture, to obtain a second mixture. The amphoteric surfactants were contacted with the second mixture, to obtain a third mixture. Water and the at least
one humectant were contacted with the third mixture, to obtain a fourth mixture,
and the at least one excipient was contacted with the fourth mixture and further
processed to obtain the composition. All the mixtures were obtained by contacting
the respective ingredients at a temperature in a range of 40-50°C and by maintaining
stirring at 100 rpm. The same procedure was followed for preparation of working
and non-working examples as mentioned in the previous section.
[0069] Overall, the present disclosure provides stable cleansing formulation with
high oil content in an aesthetically appealing gel form, devoid of any silicones or
polymeric thickening agents. This can be achieved by using a surfactants and oils in
an optimum w/w ratio, without using any polymer-based thickeners. These gel-type
compositions have an appropriately desirable viscosity in the range of 10,000 -
45,000 cps, without compromising on the stability, and transparency of the
cleansing formulation. In spite of the same, the composition of the present
disclosure was found to possess equivalent sensorial features as compared to known
cleansing formulations available in the market.
Advantage of the present disclosure:
[0070] The present disclosure discloses a cleansing formulation comprising: (a) a combination of at least one non-ionic surfactant, and at least one of an anionic and an amphoteric surfactant; (b) at least one oil in specific weight ratio. The composition can further comprise of at least one humectant and also at least one excipient. One of the significant advantage of the present disclosure is that the composition is essentially polymeric thickening agents which can be harmful to the skin and also is an environmental hazard. Despite of being free of the above-mentioned components, the composition is able to exhibit good sensorial features. Also provided, is a process for preparing the composition, which is relatively simple and is relatively inexpensive. The absence of polymeric thickening agents also provide economical advantage as the cost of production can be minimized.
