FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention relates to truck mounted patrol maintenance unit for road
maintenance and in emergency. This unit mounted on a truck chassis is
devised for pothole patching work and for use as an initial emergency response
unit in case of road accidents, natural calamities etc.
BACKGROUND AND PRIOR ART OF INVENTION
The state governments have responsibility for carrying out maintenance of
Roads (Pothole Patching Work) on the highways and are also responsible for
attending to emergencies arising out of road accidents, natural calamities etc.
Under the present arrangement, the responsibility for maintenance of roads
lies with the State Public Work Department and the responsibility to respond in
case of emergencies arising out of road accidents, natural calamities etc is with
the health department and other civic authorities. The equipments being
currently used for the road maintenance are trailer mounted which are slow
moving. Further, it is not possible to effectively cover the highways, with the
result that the road maintenance suffers and the roads are full of pot holes.
Again under the current arrangement, the response time in case of
emergencies is very slow because sufficient ambulances and rescue vehicles
are not available with the concerned department to meet the sudden demands
during accidents and natural calamities.
In order to integrate both the functions and improve the efficiency of the
government regarding said functions, there is a need to develop a GPS enabled,
Mobile Maintenance Unit, suitable for moving on metal roads with speed to
carryout road maintenance (Pothole Patching Work) and to be used as an initial
Emergency Response Unit in case of road accidents, natural calamities etc.
-3-
Currently for road maintenance following is involved:
Workers bring the materials required with a ready mixer in a small rickshaw
involving 8-10 people without any proper safety arrangements i.e. there is no
road closed sign boards, compactor, air compressor to clean the road before
laying instead they use broom which is not effective. Further, no jack hammer
is available for breaking the damaged road (road with cracks) adjacent to pot
hole.
No emulsion spray pump to fill the pothole, which results in further damage of
the road.
In prior art the material is heated at one spot and taken to a distance for filling
pothole. The delay in the use of emulsion affects its consistency thereby
affecting its quality. There is no pug mill for proper mixing of materials at the
spot.
The instant invention introduces a truck mounted patrol maintenance unit to
address the aforesaid issues.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
An object of the invention is to propose a truck mounted patrol maintenance
unit for road maintenance and in emergency.
Another object of the invention is to propose a truck mounted patrol
maintenance unit, which is GPS enabled and suitable for moving on metal
roads with speed for pothole patching work and to be used as initial emergency
response unit in case of road accidents, natural calamities etc.
A further object of the invention is to propose a truck mounted patrol
maintenance unit, which is having various equipments for road maintenance.
-4-
A still further object of the invention is to propose a truck mounted patrol
maintenance unit, which is having an emergency medical unit and stretcher to
provide first aid box and shift the injured persons to hospital.
Yet further object of this invention is to propose a truck mounted patrol
maintenance unit, which is reliable and efficient.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
According to this invention, there is provided a truck mounted patrol
maintenance unit for road maintenance and in emergency comprising various
equipments for road maintenance and clearing feeling free and various medical
units for providing medical care to injured people, which are mounted on the
truck.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
Further objects and advantages of this invention will be more apparent from
the ensuing description when read in conjunction with the accompanying
drawings and wherein:
Figure 1A
85 IB shows: Side view of truck mounted patrol maintenance unit
according to present invention.
Figure 2 shows: Top view of present invention.
DETAIL DESCRIPTION OF THE PRESENT INVENTION WITH REFERENCE
TO THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
The invention is directed to truck mounted patrol maintenance unit for road
maintenance and in emergency.
4 -5-
Reference may be made to fig. 1A and IB indicating truck mounted patrol
maintenance unit of present invention, wherein chassis of said truck is covered
with a frame(8) for mounting of patrol maintenance unit thereon.
The maintenance unit comprising the following for road maintenance
(Bituminous and Nonbituminous).
- Stone aggregate container (2) for storing aggregates,
- Bitumen tank (4) containing bitumen,
- Sand tank (5) for keeping sand therein,
- Pug mill (3) for mixing aggregate, bitumen and sand to prepare a
bituminous mix for filling and repair of pothole.
The equipment and storage tank are mounted on a channel rail type with
slide fit, so that it can be removed and remounted as per requirement easily.
The pug mill is operated by means of a hydraulic system (7).
Further, there is provision of pneumatic hammer used for breaking the
cracked road adjacent to pothole in order to set the road by giving proper
shape and depth for pothole repair prior to laying of bituminous mix
(emulsion) in the pothole by means of emulsion spray pump.
Here, air compressor operates air tank (6) to make the hammer function and
for cleaning road.
A tool box (11) is provided to accommodate pneumatic hammer, sign
boards, tree cutter (chain saw), cones for diversion of traffic, under work
sign board, shovel, picks, brooms, emulsion spray pump.
-6-
Further, there is availability of necessary emergency kits, warning signs,
flashing light, barriers, safety clothing, fire-extinguisher etc.
The tree cutter operated by engine is utilized to cut trees blocking the road
and thereby restricting traffic movement following cyclone / d u e to any other
reason.
Public address system is also available in driver cabin to address the public
if required.
Truck engine is connected to hydraulic system (7), which operates pug mill,
air compressor and truck back door unlocking/locking system. The rear
door is hydraulically operated ramp type. The door when opens acts as a
ramp so that man/material/equipment/tools can be taken in and out of the
machine chamber easily without much efforts. Provision to operate rear
door is provided in the driver's cabin.
Each side of the truck is fitted with a door (D) adjacent to which stretcher
(13) is located. One side of the truck is attached to a collapsible (foldable)
ladder (9) for climbing into the truck. Provision is made to use stretcher as
sleeper which is detachable.
There is also provision of a water tank (10) to supply water.
As shown in the fig. 2, there is sitting arrangement (14) in the form of bench
for workers undertaking the task of maintenance/medical care and a rack
(1) to keep uniform and various working tools required for the service. A
vibrating plate compactor (12) is also available, which is employed to
compact the road after filling the pot hole uniformly with the help of
emulsion spray pump.
Sufficient seating capacity is provided in the cabin for driver, foreman and
workforce.
4
-7-
Drive System (Truck engine)
• Provision is made to utilize truck engine as main source of power to
drive the compressor and pug mill directly or through a hydraulic
motor.
• The hydraulic pump is driven through the side PTO of the truck gear
box.
• The engaging and disengaging of the PTO unit is done from driver
cabin.
Hydraulic System/Controls
• Hydraulic system includes hydraulic pump driven by vehicle PTO,
rear door/ramp operating and closing cylinder, hydraulic tank, oil
pipe and control valve.
• All the controls, switch etc required for operation of the complete
system are preferably grouped and mounted at a convenient place at
the rear end, so that the entire control/operation of the system can be
done easily from a single location.
Thus, with the help of present invention, road maintenance can be carried
out effectively by following each step of road maintenance sequentially. This
is possible due to availability of all equipments required for the same as
discussed hereinabove.
It is to be noted that the present invention is susceptible to modifications,
adaptations and changes by those skilled in the art. Such variant
embodiments employing the concepts and features of this invention are
intended to be within the scope of the present invention, which is further set
forth under the following claims:-
