DESC:FIELD OF THE INVENTION:
This invention relates to the field of bags, backpacks, and luggage.

Particularly, this invention relates to the field of waterproofing of bags, backpacks, and luggage.

Specifically, this invention relates to a waterproof bag.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION:
Backpacks, bags, and the like, are used day in and day out; whether in routine day to day activities such as in schools, offices, and the like. Travels also require a variety of bags, baggage, backpacks, and the like luggage items.

One problem faced with any luggage items is its ability to withstand ingress of water.

According to prior arts, water repellent bags were made; the idea was to use water repellent fabric that prevents water from entering the luggage item. However, it was observed that, even if the material is a water repelling material, it does not prevent water to seep through seams, areas where needle holes are made, and zippers.

According to some other prior arts, rain covers were provided in a portion of the luggage item which can be removed to envelope the luggage item in cases of rain or the like water-related conditions to protect the item from ingress of water. However, this required provisioning a separate area in a bag. This was also a cumbersome process since it requires extra effort and time to prevent a luggage item; which is not always possible.

Further, it was observed that in a standard process of sewing, in areas such as seams, of a luggage item, a hole is formed; rendering the fabric porous and, therefore, vulnerable. However small the hole may be, it still leaves room for ingress / seepage of fluid.

Therefore, there is no foolproof mechanism which provisions practical solutions towards reasonable, yet substantial, waterproofing of bags, baggage, backpacks, and the like luggage items.

There is a need to solve the aforementioned problems.

OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION:
An object of the invention is to provide a substantially waterproof bag / backpack / luggage item.

Another object of the invention is to eliminate water seepage, through seams and needle holes, for a bag / backpack / luggage items.

Yet another object of the invention is to provide a bag / backpack / luggage item which is designed to eliminate water seeping in, through seams, joints, zippers, and the like vulnerable areas, under moderate to heavy rain for a relatively longer period of time.

Still another object of the invention is to provide a reasonable, yet substantial, waterproofing of bags, baggage, backpacks, and the like luggage items

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION:
According to this invention, there is provided a waterproof bag comprising:
- a fabric layer, sewn through, by a thread, said fabric layer forming an outer casing for said bag, said sewing causing needle holes through said fabric layer;
- an inner binding layer, such that said fabric, of said fabric layer being ensconced by an inner binding layer;
characterized, in that,
- an add-on polymer layer configured to be interspersed between the fabric layer and the binding layer, said add-on polymer layer being press-filled in a naturally compressive state, such that when a needle sews a thread through said add-on polymer layer and, further, through said fabric layer, said add-on polymer layer expanding owing to release from its naturally compressive state, in each of gaps that is caused, due to said needle infiltrating said fabric layer, said gap being said hole and also being between a thread and said hole in said fabric layer, to provide a positive pressure in each of said gaps; thereby, causing a prestress block, by compressing each of said gaps from all sides, at least at a region of entry of said gap and at least in each of said gaps.

In at least an embodiment, said inner binding layer being a waterproof layer.

In at least an embodiment, wherein said inner binding layer (18) being a layer made of PVC.

In at least an embodiment, said add-on polymer layer being a layer made of Polyethylene foam.

In at least an embodiment:
- said fabric layer being placed between two add-on-layers; one at its operative dorsal surface and one at its operative ventral surface;
- compressive force being applied from an operative top, on to an operative dorsal surface of said operative top add-on layer so as to cause a compressive force in the add-on layer; and
- compressive force being applied from an operative bottom, on to an operative ventral surface of said operative bottom add-on layer so as to cause a compressive force in said add-on layer;
o thereby, causing said add-on layer to expand operatively horizontally and fill a gap between said hole and said thread upon release of pressure by said needle.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS:
FIGURE 1 illustrates a bag / backpack / luggage item, of the prior art, and problems associated, in relation to water ingress, therein.

The invention will now be described in relation to the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIGURE 2 illustrates a bag / backpack / luggage items, of the current invention, solving problems of the prior art and, thereby, providing a reasonably, yet substantial, waterproofing of bags, baggage, backpacks, and the like luggage items; and
FIGURE 3 illustrates the manner in which the add-on layer is applied.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS:
FIGURE 1 illustrates a bag / backpack / luggage item, of the prior art, and problems associated, in relation to water ingress, therein.

In the prior art, as shown, a thread (12) is shown to be sewn through a fabric (14) that forms the bag / backpack / luggage item. Thus, a needle hole (16) is formed which allows entry / ingress / seepage of water (20). The fabric is ensconced by an inner binding (18) and still there can be seen seepage of water. This needs to be arrested.

According to this invention, there is provided a waterproof bag.

FIGURE 2 illustrates a bag / backpack / luggage items, of the current invention, solving problems of the prior art and, thereby, providing a reasonably, yet substantial, waterproofing of bags, baggage, backpacks, and the like luggage items.

In at least an embodiment, the invention also adds a waterproof binding (18) that further prevents seepage.

In at least an embodiment, there is provided an add-on polymer layer (30) configured to be placed interspersed between the fabric (14) layer and the binding (18) layer. Typically, this add-on polymer layer (30) is press-filled such that when a needle sews a thread through this layer, and, further, through the fabric, it expands to provide a positive pressure at the hole (and seam); thereby, causing a prestress block, by compressing a needle hole from all sides, at a region of entry (19) of a needle hole (16). Thus, the hole and / or seam gets covered / blocked and this prestress block causes further resistance to water from seeping in.

Preferably, this add-on layer is a Polyethylene (PE) foam layer which is a durable, lightweight, resilient, closed-cell material and, hence, capable of usage, towards preventing ingress of water, in the current invention.

FIGURE 3 illustrates the manner in which the add-on layer (30) is applied.

In at least an embodiment, the fabric layer (14) is placed between two add-on-layers (30); one at its operative dorsal surface and one at its operative ventral surface. Compressive force is applied from an operative top, on to the operative dorsal surface of the operative top add-on layer (30) so as to cause a compressive force in the add-on layer. Similarly, compressive force is applied from an operative bottom, on to the operative ventral surface of the operative bottom add-on layer (30) so as to cause a compressive force in the add-on layer. The add-on layer (30) expands operatively horizontally and fills the gap between the hole and the thread upon release of pressure by a needle.

This construction design eliminates water seeping in through seams under moderate to heavy rain for a longer period of time when compared with prior arts. It also helps a user not to bother to wait and / or to remove a rain cover but continue on their travel, seamlessly.

The TECHNICAL ADVANCEMENT of this invention lies in providing an add-on layer, in a specific form, at pre-defined regions to cause a reasonable, yet substantial, waterproof layered mechanism for use in bags, backpacks, and the like luggage items.

While this detailed description has disclosed certain specific embodiments for illustrative purposes, various modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art which do not constitute departures from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the following claims, and it is to be distinctly understood that the foregoing descriptive matter is to be interpreted merely as illustrative of the invention and not as a limitation.
