, Description:Complete Specification:
The following specification describes and ascertains the nature of this invention and the manner in which it is to be performed
Field of the invention
[0001] The present disclosure relates to a windscreen for a vehicle.
Background of the invention
[0002] Presently windscreens of the vehicles comprises an array of resistive wires. These wires are either embedded inside or on the surface of the glass. When a small amount of current is passed through the wire, the wires get heated up. This heating up of the wire is removes the fog or the mist from the windscreen.
Patent Application US6512203B2 Polymer thick film heating element on a glass substrate relates to an Apparatus and methods for attaching a heating element to a glass substrate. The heating element is formed of a plurality of conductive polymer thick film inks screen printed on the substrate. The heating element includes a resistive strip or resistor, conductive strips or conductors, and terminal portions, which form part of an electrical circuit. Electrical power applied to the terminal portions cause current to flow through the resistive strip, which generates heat through resistive heating. The heat is transferred to the substrate. The method of applying the heating element to the substrate includes, in one embodiment, screen printing polymer thick film materials onto a surface of a glass substrate to form the circuit conductors and resistive elements and surface mounting other components of the circuit on the substrate.
Brief description of the accompanying drawings
[0003] An embodiment of the invention is described with reference to the following accompanying drawings:
[0004] Fig. 1 depicts a windscreen for a vehicle ; and
[0005] Fig. 2 depicts a system for fire compression in a vehicle.
Detailed description of the drawings
[0006] Figure 1 depicts a windscreen (100) for a vehicle. The windscreen (100) in a vehicle comprises an array of wires (101) embedded on the glass of the windscreen (100). Each wire (101) in the array further comprises at least two conducting elements (102). A thermoplastic polymer (103) is sandwiched between the conducting elements (102). A fire indication unit (104) connected to each wire (101) in the array. The fire indication unit (104) gives an audio indication or visual indication. The fire indication unit (104) is connected to an electronic control unit (105).
[0007] In an embodiment each wire (101) in the array comprises two conducting strips. The thermoplastic layer is coated on one of the two conducting strips. In another embodiment of the present invention each wire (101) of the array further comprises a set at least two wires. The thermoplastic layer is coated on these set of two wires. The thermoplastic polymer (103) comprises any material that melts above a threshold temperature corresponding to the temperature of fire. For example, the melting temperature of the thermoplastic polymer (103) is 500 degree Celsius.
[0008] In an embodiment of the present invention the fire indication unit (104) is a fire-alarm unit that generates a fire alarm. In another embodiment of the present invention the fire indication unit (104) comprises light emitting diodes (LEDs) that give visual indication. In another embodiment of the present invention the fire indication unit (104) comprises a communication module. The communication module sends a fire alert message to a mobile unit of the user. The mobile unit is a communication device like a mobile phone, smart watch etc.
[0009] Figure 2 depicts a system (200) for fire compression in a vehicle. The system (200) comprises an Electronic Control Unit (ECU (105)), a windscreen (100) and at least a fire extinguishing unit (106). The fire extinguishing unit (106) connected to the ECU (105). The windscreen (100) comprises an array of wires (101) embedded on the glass of the windscreen (100). Each wire (101) in the array further comprising at least two conducting elements (102), a thermoplastic polymer (103) sandwiched between the conducting elements (102) and at least a fire indication unit (104). The fire indication unit (104) is connected to each wire (101) in the array. The fire indication unit (104) gives an audio indication or visual indication. The fire indication unit (104) is connected to an electronic control unit (ECU (105)).
[0010] When the ambient temperature inside the vehicle exceeds beyond a threshold due to fire inside the vehicle, the thermoplastic polymer (103) sandwiched between the conducting elements (102) of the windscreen (100) melts. This brings the conducting elements (102) of the windscreen (100) in contact with each-other. The windscreen (100) is designed in such a manner that contact between the conducting elements (102) of the array completes the circuit for activating the fire indication unit (104). In an embodiment of the present invention as described above the fire indication unit (104) raises a fire alarm. In another embodiment of the present invention as described above the fire indication unit (104) gives a visual indication through LEDs. In another embodiment of the present invention as described above, the fire indication unit (104) sends a fire alert message to the mobile communication device of the user. The fire indication unit (104) is connected to the ECU (105). Hence it sends a fire alert signal to the ECU (105). The ECU (105) on receiving the fire alert signal activates the fire extinguishing unit.
[0011] The advantage of using a windscreen 100 in accordance with this disclosure is that fire can be detected using the windscreen. This windscreen can be used in a wide range of automobiles ranging from a car to a train. In situations where the automobile is parked in a facility without the owner being inside the automobile, the above mention invention can raise a timely fire alarm and mitigate the damage.
[0012] It must be understood that the embodiments explained in the above detailed description are only illustrative and do not limit the scope of this invention. Any modification to the said windscreen (100) for a vehicle are envisaged and form a part of this invention. The scope of this invention is limited only by the claims.
