The present invention relates to a combined air cooling and air purifying device, particularly to a device that can be converted to air cooler or air purifier as per user requirements.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION:
[002] India is a country with different seasons, regions, cultures & environments. With different seasons, need of different appliances arises, that's why air conditioner's, air coolers, air purifier are considered as seasonal products. During summer, air cooler is very popular for low cost solution in Northern & western regions. Function of air cooler is to lower the temperature of air using evaporative cooling. It is the addition of vapour in the air to reduce the heat. The energy needed to evaporate the water is taken from the air in the form of sensible heat, which affects the temperature of the air. Air cooler is already established product in Indian Market for low cost cooling solution during summer season.
[003] Need of Air Purifier is arising year on year due to PM2.5 pollutants increase in atmosphere & this pollutant can enter human lungs through respiration process. We are surrounded with a lot of pollutants every time. It is very important to protect family from indoor pollutants. Air purifier lets us to enjoy a pure breath of healthy air. Air purifiers are especially important in houses because they quickly and quietly clear allergens and other particles, effectively remove odour, pollen, smoke, dust, pet dander, and almost all other pollutants present in the air.
[004] Main Season for Air Cooler & Air Purifier is almost 3 months, and that is not at the same time. Customer has to purchase both products separately for such short seasons, ultimately contributing cost for two different products. While cooler is in use, it automatically reduces particulates in confined area due to humidity but Air purifier is to

be used for other times. There is no such product in the market that can cater to both needs at the same time.
[005] Some of the technologies of the prior art explains different combinations of air cleaner with other devices to achieve multiple functions.
[006] KR20050098124A relates to a combination air purifier to provide purified air in the house at the same time all the locations that are installed on one side of the kitchen or living room can be stored frozen and refrigerated food from one side of the kitchen or the living room refrigerator. And a refrigerator door combine air freshener refrigerator according to the present invention is the refrigerant while circulating along the cooling cycle provided in the inner wall installed to be opened and closed on the open side of the refrigerator body and the refrigerator body for freezing or refrigerating the storage space inside, the installation is fixed to one side of the refrigerator main body in which purification by sucking the air, and then made to discharge an air freshener with a negative ion.
[007] CN1067678B provides a method of purifying the indoor air cooling, for ventilation of indoor and outdoor heat exchanger and recovered by filtration energy of the exhaust gas, a method of evaporation of water to cool the air, wherein: the indoor air is discharged outdoors before filtration enthalpy exchanger humidification cooling medium close to the wet bulb temperature, while cooling the heat exchanger was filtered, fresh air enters the chamber in direct contact with the cooled heat exchanger and cooling the filter, realization wet cooling, while the heat exchanger is filtered purification by filtration; runner type air conditioner according to this method includes when the design work is constantly rotating filter wheel heat exchanger, water supply systems, fan device, indoor and outdoor air passes through the filter alternately from opposite directions in direct heat exchanger contact heat transfer. Such an air conditioner having both cooling, purification, no compressor, no Freon, simple structure, low power consumption, can be substituted in many cases conventional compression air conditioning fresh air ventilation, air purifiers,

air-conditioning fan, warmers and other specialized air treatment equipment, can be widely used in homes and public areas, with high technical and economic value.
[008] Since none of the prior art relates to the present invention and to overcome above-mentioned problems, there is a need to make a combined and convertible air cooler/purifier product that can cater both product category and function as an individual appliance during its need.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION:
[009] The objective of the present invention is to design a combined and convertible air cooler/purifier product that can cater both product category and function as an individual appliance during its need.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION:
[010] According to an embodiment of the present invention, there is provided a combined air cooling and air purifying device that can be used for domestic or commercial purposes. The device can be converted either to air cooler or air purifier as per user requirements. As a result of said configuration, the need of purchasing two different products for achieving two different functions is eliminated. It does not require excessive storage space both in home and in other areas where it will be used. The device will not be idle based on the seasons throughout the year.

[012] Figure 1 is a front side view of the convertible air cooler/purifier when it is used as an air cooler according to an embodiment of the present invention.

[014] Figure 3 is an expanded view of the convertible air cooler/purifier when it is used as an air purifier according to an embodiment of the present invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS
[015] Figures 1 and 2 of the instant invention illustrate a portable air cooling and purifying unit of the present invention. The said unit comprises of a cabinet (10) mounted on four castor wheels (11). The cabinet (10) further comprises of a front panel (12), a rear panel (13) and 02 side panels (14), (15). Either of the 02 sides panel are removable to perform maintenance or service on the unit. The cabinet includes a room delivery air outlet grille (16) on a front side of the cabinet. A power cord (17) is provided for connecting the unit to a source of electrical power.
[016] The said unit comprises of a control (18) which incorporates associated displays and selected controls. Said control allows for both automatic and manual operation of unit in both settings. The control can provide for automatic switching between cooling and purifying modes.
[017] On the back side of cabinet (10), serrations are provided in back panel along with cooling media to allow ambient temperature to pass through it which lowers down the temperature of air due to evaporative cooling while throwing out of front panel (16). While ambient air is passing through the cooling media (19), water from tank (20) will fall on cooling media (19) and lowers down the temperature of air passing through which is been thrown out from front grill 16 using an exhaust fan (21) which is mounted on a AC/BLDC

Motor (22). This water which is used to moisten the cooling media pads (19) is collected in tank (20) which is pumped into cooling media pad (19) using a pump (23).
[018] According to another embodiment of the present invention, Fig 3 illustrates the working of an air purifier of the convertible air cooler/purifier device. To enable the device to work as an air purifier, HEPA filter 24 is used which can be washed few number of times to nullify the effect of water, moisture on it. This filter is clubbed with other filters and a consolidated cassette is made as a separate unit. This unit has an electrical connection to show indicators, working & filter life. Plunger switch is fixed to activate Air Purifier mode while this switch is pressed by assembled filters. This can be done manually or automatically by using a DC motor, thus making it easy for the customer and also to make it fool proof to assemble.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

These embodiments are described in sufficient detail to enable those skilled in the art to practice the embodiments and it is to be understood that the logical, mechanical and other changes may be made without departing from the scope of the embodiments. The following description is therefore not to be taken in a limiting sense.
[020] According to one embodiment of the present subject matter described herein, convertible air cooler/purifier that can be used individually as per requirement is described. It is provided with options to use as cooler or purifier based upon need of the hour.
[021] It is based on the simple principle that when unsaturated air comes in contact with water, the water evaporates. In the process, the moisture content of air increases, while its

temperature decreases. The resulting cold but the moist air is used for providing cooling. Atmospheric air enters through sides of cooler, passes through high humidity pads and thrown out through high speed fan, thus providing cooling effect.
[022] According to another aspect of the present embodiment, air purifier works by stripping the air of these bad airborne contaminants. The majority of air purifier works by way of HEPA filter combination with sediment and carbon (24) which is placed on cooler unit, which sucks in particles and traps them so they cannot float back into the air. The important point of air purifier is that it should have very low suction pressure. The filter used is not limited to HEPA filter as other filters such as Pre-Filter, Post Carbon filter, UV filter or water assisted filters etc. can also be used to purify the air.
[023] According to another embodiment of the present invention, Figure 3 illustrates the working of an air purifier of the convertible air cooler/purifier device. [024] The important condition for air purifier to work properly is to have a very low suction. However, air output from Cooler is expected very high to lower down room temperature and customer could feel cold air. In Air Purifier air flow should be less and should not impact on room temperature. To control separate speeds of motor for different applications, BLDC motor can be used which can be controlled through controller. Complete Air flow is changed and room air is circulated again and again to filter it number of times to get desired output.

[025] When the device is to be used as an air cooler, cooler structure is provided with removable filters cassette which can be removed as per requirement.
[026] While filters are not in use, filter cassette is removed from product and stored in specific place made in product.

We Claim:

1.A portable air cooling and air purifying device, said device comprising of:
i. a cooling unit with side and rear panels;
ii. a cooling media; iii. exhaust fan; iv. pump;
v. cassette/rectangular shaped HEPA filter to actuate air purifying mode; and vi. controls to switch in alternate modes;
characterized in that air purifying filter is employed in connection with the sediment and carbon placed on air cooling unit having very low suction pressure.
2. The device as claimed in Claim 1, wherein a cabinet (10) is mounted and supported on a plurality of caster wheels (11) for rolling transport of said portable unit.
3. The device as claimed in Claim 1, wherein said unit comprises of a water collection tank having an outlet towards the cooling media.
4. The device as claimed in Claim 1, wherein the said purifying filter is placed on top or side of the cabinet unit.
5. The device as claimed in Claim 1, wherein the said unit may be converted manually/ automatically to air cooler or air purifier modes by control unit whereby said control unit is actuated by a feedback from controller unit.
6. The device as claimed in Claim 1, wherein speed of the motor is controlled by the employment of BLDC motor for different applications.

7. The device as claimed in Claim 1, wherein said unit possess an electrical connection for display of indicators, working and filter life.
8. The device as claimed in Claim 1, wherein the HEPA filter is clubbed with other filters as a consolidated cassette whereby said cassette functions as a separate unit.
