PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION:

The following specification particularly describes the nature of this invention and the manner in which it is to be performed.

Field of the Invention:

This invention relates to the field of mechanical engineering, automobile engineering, and ergonomics.

Particularly, this invention, relates to AN ANGULARLY AND LATERALLY DISPLACEABLE SEAT FOR VEHICLES.

Background of the Invention:

Getting in and out of a vehicle is a cumbersome procedure. Especially in compact vehicles, or in vehicles which have a relatively lower height, there is only a pre-defined space in which a person has to fit himself or herself. Usually, this space is just enough for a passenger or a driver.

While the seat is capable of linear to and fro motion, there is enough room for comfort once a passenger or driver is seated in place. The act of seating or getting out of a seat, however, poses challenges to a lot of people; especially ones with physical disability or obese people or people with back pain or people with leg or knee pain. Even for normal people, the act of getting into a car and getting out of a car puts undue and unwarranted strain on the back and legs.

This is particularly because in relatively smaller cars or compacts, a passenger or a driver has to climb down in a very specific manner. In cars having a higher centre of gravity, such as sports utility vehicles, this task of seating and getting out becomes somewhat easier. However, the challenge of placing oneself in alignment with the fixed seat still remains.

Therefore, there is a need for a vehicle and vehicle seat which overcomes the limitations of the prior art.

Objects of the Invention:

An object of this invention is to provide a seat for a vehicle which aids in ease of getting into and getting out of the vehicle for passengers as well as driver.

Another object of the invention is to provide an angularly displaceable seat for a vehicle which aids in ease of getting into and getting out of the vehicle for passengers as well as driver.

Yet another object of the invention is to provide a laterally displaceable seat for a vehicle which aids in ease of getting into and getting out of the vehicle for passengers as well as driver.

Summary of the Invention:

According to this invention, there is provided AN ANGULARLY AND LATERALLY DISPLACEABLE SEAT FOR VEHICLES. said seat comprises:

- at least a second pair of parallel tracks orthogonal to an already existing at least a first pair of parallel tracks in said vehicle, which existing first pair facilitates operative to and fro motion, and which said at least a second pair extends out laterally in order to facilitate movement of said seat in a lateral and medial motion with respect to said vehicle; and

- at least an angular or a curved track beneath said seat in order to allow angular displacement of said seat.

Typically, said at least a second pair of parallel tracks is collapsible so they can be extended or retracted whenever a passenger or a driver wants to get in or get out of said vehicle.

Typically, said seat comprising an angularly displaceable joint pivoted beneath said seat, substantially at its top edge closer to the door, in order to allow for angular displacement of said seat so that the seat moves out of the vehicle, partially, so that it facilitates ease of entry and exit in to said vehicle.

Typically, said seat comprising an angularly displaceable joint pivoted beneath a seat, substantially at its centre, in order to allow for angular displacement of said seat, so that although said seat does not move out of the vehicle body, even partially, it facilitates ease of entry and exit in to the vehicle.

Preferably, said seat comprising levers and locking mechanisms advantageously provided in order to facilitate this movement with ease and with minimum resistance.

Preferably, said seat comprising drives and motors in order to facilitate electronic movement.

Preferably, said seat comprising sensors in order to indicate movement and locking and other safety mechanisms relative to said vehicle.

Brief Description of the Accompanying Drawings:

Figure 1 illustrates a typical vehicle seat with a base part and a back rest part.

The invention will now be described in relation to the accompanying drawings, in which:

Figure 2 illustrates a first movement of the seat of a vehicle;

Figure 3 illustrates a second movement of the seat of a vehicle;

Figure 4 illustrates a seat in a vehicle, the seat being normally located;

Figure 5 illustrates a forward motion of the seat in the vehicle;

Figure 6 illustrates the seat in a lateral motion in the vehicle; and

Figure 7 illustrates the seat in its angularly displaced position, in the vehicle.

Detailed Description of the Accompanying Drawings:

Figure 1 illustrates a typical vehicle seat with a base part (12) and a back rest part (14).

According to this invention, there is provided AN ANGULARLY AND LATERALLY DISPLACEABLE SEAT FOR VEHICLES.

Figure 2 illustrates a first movement of the seat of a vehicle.

Figure 3 illustrates a second movement of the seat of a vehicle.

In accordance with an embodiment of this invention, there is provided a second pair of parallel tracks (22) adapted to be located under a seat of a vehicle. This second pair of parallel tracks is orthogonal to the already existing first pair of parallel tracks in the vehicle, which existing first pair facilitates to and fro motion (with respect to the front and rear of the vehicle) of the seat. The current second pair of parallel tracks may be collapsible in nature and extends out laterally in order to facilitate movement of the seat in a lateral and medial motion with respect to the vehicle. The seat moves out of the vehicle body when it traverses the length of the pair of parallel tracks in a lateral direction in order to facilitate a passenger or a driver to get into the vehicle without any hindrance from the body of the vehicle. Furthermore, the seat moved in to the vehicle body when it traverses the length of the second pair of parallel tracks in a medial direction in order to facilitate locating of the seated passenger or driver within the confines of the vehicle body and so that the door may be shut. The tracks are collapsible so they can be extended or retracted whenever a passenger or a driver wants to get in or get out.

Figure 4 illustrates a seat in a vehicle, the seat being normally located.

Figure 5 illustrates a forward motion of the seat in the vehicle.

User can move forward the seat after removing simple mechanical locks provided at each slider as shown in above and below image.

Figure 6 illustrates the seat in a lateral motion in the vehicle.

In accordance with another embodiment of this invention, there is provided an angular or a curved track (32) beneath a seat in order to allow angular displacement of the seat.

Figure 7 illustrates the seat in its angularly displaced position, in the vehicle.

Alternatively, in at least one embodiment, there may be provided an angularly displaceable joint pivoted beneath a seat, substantially at its top edge closer to the door, in order to allow for angular displacement of the seat so that the seat moves out of the vehicle, partially, so that it facilitates ease of entry and exit in to the vehicle. As seen in Figure 2 of the accompanying drawings, the seat moves from its initial placement of ABCD to A B C D in a laterally outward direction.

Alternatively, in at least one embodiment, there may be provided an angularly displaceable joint pivoted beneath a seat, substantially at its centre, in order to allow for angular displacement of the seat, so that although the seat does not move out of the vehicle body, even partially, it facilitates ease of entry and exit in to the vehicle. As seen in Figure 3 of the accompanying drawings, the seat moves from its initial placement of ABCD to A B C D while it is pivoted at A.

Appropriate levers and locking mechanisms may be advantageously provided in order to facilitate this movement with ease and with minimum resistance. Drives and motors may also be provided in order to facilitate electronic movement. Sensors may be placed in order to indicate movement and locking and other safety mechanism relative to the vehicle.

Also, it is to be generally understood, that state of the art tracks can be used in order to facilitate movement of the seat.

While this detailed description has disclosed certain specific embodiments of the present invention for illustrative purposes, various modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art which do not constitute departures from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the following claims, and it is to be distinctly understood that the foregoing descriptive matter is to be interpreted merely as illustrative of the invention and not as a limitation.
