, Description:AN APPARATUS FOR WELD PAD MARKING
TECHNICAL FIELD
[0001] The present disclosure, in general, relates to welding technology. In particular the present invention relates to an apparatus for performing weld pad marking on a panel tube.
BACKGROUND
[0002] Background description includes information that may be useful in understanding the present invention. It is not an admission that any of the information provided herein is prior art or relevant to the presently claimed invention, or that any publication specifically or implicitly referenced is prior art.
[0003] In power plants, the spiral and vertical panels/walls form the walls surrounding the furnace, where the fuel is burnt and the heat is transferred to the medium flowing inside the tubes. The Length of the panels varies from 2 to 20 meters and the number of tubes per panel/wall varies from 22 tubes to 400 tubes with outside Diameter ranging from 38.1 mm to 76.1 mm.
[0004] After fabrication, these panels are arranged in trial assembly bed. These panels have weld pads at certain locations as per drawing which need to be marked, tacked and welded accurately on the panel tubes. Weld pads are plates of thickness 6mm and width of 25mm. Length varies as per the user’s requirement. Weld pads are always in rectangular shape. Center line of weld pad is at angle of 20 degree with respect to panel tubes. So, in a panel whole weld pad is inclined at 20 degree. This makes the marking complex.
[0005] At some locations same weld pad fall on two panels next to each other, which makes the marking even more complex. Dimension of center point of weld pad is given from one end of panel. From that point center line at 20 degree has to be marked, then 4 points of rectangle has to be marked with reference to center line. After joining the points, full weld pad marking is achieved. Afterwards half weld pad are marked on each side followed by tacking and full welding.
[0006] Technical problem: This process is not only time taking but the accuracy is compromised. If the marking is not proper it will result into reworks at final stage leading to more time and more man power and cost inducing, which is not desirable.
[0007] Technical solution: Accordingly, there is a need to develop an apparatus for doing the marking of weld pad on panel tubes accurately.

[0035] Referring to fig.1, the rectangular apparatus (100) comprises of at least two long plates (101) acting as longer side of rectangle. At least two medium plates (102) act as width of rectangle and there is one center plate (103) which act as center line of rectangle. All the plates are pasted with measuring tape (110) to adjust the dimension of rectangle.
[0036] Referring to fig. 1 and fig. 2, the long plates (101) and the medium plates (102) are connected to each other with four set of clips at each end where the long plate (101) is joined to the medium plate (102). At least a top clip (106) and at least a bottom clip (107) is connected with each other and passing through the long plate (101) and the medium plate (102) in such a manner that the long plate (101) and the medium plate (102) slide over each other to increase or decrease the dimensions of rectangle. There top clip (106) and the bottom clip (107) are in total six in number. Similarly, the center plate (103) is also connected with long plates (101) with two set of at least a top clip (106) and at least a bottom clip (107) for moving the center plate (103).
[0037] The protractor (104) fitted with center plate (103) with one hinge support (105) to adjust the base of protractor (104). The top clip (106) has a threaded hole to lock the plates with at least a locking nut (108). There are six locking nuts (108) provided for locking the dimension inside the six threaded holes.
[0038] The apparatus (100) is kept on the panel (109). First of all the base of the protractor (104) is kept in parallel with tube axis and hinge support (105) of protractor (104) will be kept at center point of the rectangular apparatus (100). Once the protractor (104) base matched with the panel (109) axis and the center of hinge support (105) is matched with the center of the rectangular apparatus (100), the center plate (103) is adjusted to match with the predetermined angle in the protractor (104) and locked with the locking nuts (108).
[0039] Once the center plate (103) is fixed, the medium plates (102) is kept parallel with center plate (103) and moved along long plates (101) to set the length of rectangular apparatus (100) with the help of the measuring tape (110) pasted over the plates (101) (102) (103). Similarly, the long plates (101) move over medium plates (102) to set the width of the rectangular apparatus (100). The weld pad center is the midpoint of the rectangular shape from the center of the panel tube of the rectangular apparatus (100). After that all the plates (101) (102) (103) are locked with locking nuts (108). Afterwards all the four corners and top and bottom points at center plate (103) are punched.
[0040] Finally, the apparatus (100) is removed and all the four points are connected to form rectangular area of the rectangular apparatus (100) and two points at center form the center line of the rectangular apparatus (100). Within the marking, plates are tacked and welded to get the completed the rectangular apparatus (100). The angle of the weld pad marking on the rectangular apparatus (100) center line is adjusted to match with the predetermined angle which ranges from 15 degree to 20 degree. After completing the weld pad marking on the apparatus (100), the apparatus (100) is moved to another panel (109) to repeat the process.
[0041] While the foregoing describes various embodiments of the invention, other and further embodiments of the invention may be devised without departing from the basic scope thereof. The scope of the invention is determined by the claims that follow. The invention is not limited to the described embodiments, versions or examples, which are included to enable a person having ordinary skill in the art to make and use the invention when combined with information and knowledge available to the person having ordinary skill in the art.
