Abstract: The present invention relates to a novel applicator for performing electro-chemotherapy process, comprising of a main body (101), a plurality of electrodes (104), and a locking mechanism (102), for interlocking the plurality of electrodes (104) with the applicator pits (103). The present invention overcomes the deficiencies in the prior art by providing a locking mechanism in the applicator, which ensures that the plurality of electrodes (104) are firmly fit in the applicator pits (103) and do not fall off during the electro-chemotherapy process.

, Description:A) FIELD OF TECHNOLOGY
[001] The present application relates to the technical field of medical devices, specifically pertaining to an applicator used in electro-chemotherapy process for treating cancer tumours.
B) BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
[002] In an applicator used in electro-chemotherapy process, the applicator is connected with the pulsator at one end and the electrodes at another end. The electric impulses generated by the pulsator traverse to the electrodes through the applicator, which is held in the surgeon’s hand. Traditionally, these electrodes are secured in the pits provided in the applicator. However, it has been observed that due to lack of a locking mechanism in the applicator, the electrodes have a tendency to slip off from the applicator pits during performing the electro-chemotherapy process. A presence of locking system to interlock the applicator and the electrodes will ensure a firm fit and circumvent any probabilities of electrodes slipping off the applicator pits.
[003] In view of the above deficiency of a lack of locking system in the applicator, a need exists for an applicator with a locking mechanism. The present invention overcomes this deficiency by providing a locking mechanism in the applicator, which ensures that the electrodes are firmly fit in the applicator pits and do not fall off during the electro-chemotherapy process. The inventor of the present invention envisaged a novel applicator for electro-chemotherapy having a locking mechanism, which is simple and amenable for commercial production.
C) OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
[004] One of the objects of the invention is to introduce a locking mechanism in the applicator for interlocking the electrodes and the applicator.
[005] The novelty and technical advancement in this invention reside in the applicator having a locking system to interlock the applicator with the electrodes. This locking system ensures that the electrodes are firmly secured into the applicator pits.
[006] These and other objectives and advantages of the embodiments herein will become readily apparent from the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying documents.
D) SUMMARY OF INVENTION
[007] The present invention is an applicator having a twist locking mechanism, which ensures that the electrodes are firmly secured into the applicator pits provided in the applicator.
There is no applicator available in the prior art which discloses a locking mechanism to interlock the applicator and the electrodes. Thus, the features and construction of the present invention are novel and involve technical advancement in the prior art which consist of the constructional features which are present in this invention and the same is amenable to large scale production and contributes to the technical advancement.
E) BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS
[008] All the objects, features and advantages will occur to those skilled in the art from the following description of the preferred embodiment and the accompanying documents as follows:-
[009] SHEET 1: APPLICATOR IN AN UNLOCKED POSITION
FIG. illustrates the applicator with the electrodes and the locking mechanism in an open or unlocked position.
101 is the main body of the applicator;
102 is the locking mechanism in the applicator in an unlocked position;
103 illustrates one of the pits provided in the applicator (101) for securing the electrodes in the open position of the locking mechanism;
104 are plurality of electrodes which are inserted in the unlocked position of locking mechanism (102) in the pits (103) provided in the applicator (101).
[010] SHEET 2: APPLICATOR IN A LOCKED POSITION
FIG. illustrates the locking mechanism (201) in a closed or locked position.
201 illustrates the locking mechanism in a closed or locked position;
202 illustrates one of the pits provided in the applicator (101) and interlocked with an electrode in the closed position of the locking mechanism (201)
[011] SHEET 3: AN ELECTRODE WITH GROOVE
FIG. illustrates an electrode (301) having a groove at one end and tip at the other end. The groove of the electrode gets interlocked in one of the applicator pit (103).
F) DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE EMBODIMENTS
[0012] In the following detailed description, a reference is made to the accompanying drawings that form a part hereof, of the total description. The embodiments are described in sufficient detail to enable those skilled in the art to understand the invention. Logical, mechanical and other changes may be made to this embodiment in future without departing from its present scope. The following detailed description is therefore not to be taken in a limiting sense.
[0013] In the present invention, a plurality of electrodes (104) having grooves at one end are inserted into the applicator pits (103) when the locking mechanism (102) is in an open or unlocked position. The locking mechanism (102) is open or unlocked when the yellow dot on the rim and the white dot on the moving ring are aligned. Upon insertion of the plurality of electrodes (104) into the applicator pits (103) in the open position of the locking mechanism (102), the movable ring is turned clockwise till the white dot aligns with the red dot on the rim, thereby interlocking the plurality of electrodes (104) with the applicator pits (103). The plurality of electrodes (104) are locked firmly and do not slip out or be removed in the locked position of the locking mechanism (201) from the applicator (101). 202 shows the interlocking of an electrode having a groove (301) in one of the applicator pits. In the locked position, the applicator can be used to perform the electro-chemotherapy process safely, without the running the risk of electrodes falling off from the applicator pits.
