Abstract: A ride pattern based idle start-stop system 100 for vehicle is disclosed. The system 100 comprises a controller 110, characterized in that, the controller 110 adapted to periodically determine, using a signal from a speed sensor 102, a maximum speed of the vehicle in a predefined time duration, and periodically determine a distance covered by the vehicle in the predefined time duration. The controller 110, then executes any one engine start-stop function 114 in dependence of both of the distance travelled and the maximum speed. The controller 110 is further adapted to execute any one engine start-stop function 114 based on at least one parameter selected from group comprising an engine speed, a clutch status, and a gear position. The system 100 provides a solution which adapts the idling time of the engine based on the driving pattern of the vehicle.
Claims:1. An engine start-stop system (100) for a vehicle, said system (100) comprises a controller (110), characterized in that, said controller (110) adapted to
periodically determine, using a signal from a vehicle speed sensor (102), a maximum speed of said vehicle in a predefined time duration, and
periodically determine a distance covered by said vehicle in said predefined time duration, and
execute any one engine start-stop function (114) in dependence of both of said distance travelled and said maximum speed.
2. The system (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein said any one engine start-stop function (114) is selected from a group comprising modification of a set idle time of said engine, disabling engine start-stop function (114) and enabling engine start-stop function (114).
3. The system (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein said controller (110) executes any one engine start-stop function (114) with reference to a look-up table (112) stored in a memory element.
4. The system (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein said controller (110) is further adapted to execute any one engine star-stop function (114) based on at least one parameter selected from group comprising a throttle position, an engine speed, a clutch status and a gear position.
5. The system (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein when said engine is stopped, said controller (110) is adapted to enable engine start only after
detection of a clutch status, and
detection of a throttle signal above a threshold position.
6. A method for controlling engine start-stop function (114) in a vehicle, characterized by, said method comprising the steps of:
periodically determining, by a controller (110), a maximum speed of said vehicle in a predetermined time duration;
periodically determining, by said controller (110), a distance covered by said vehicle in said predefined time duration, and
executing, by said controller (110), any one engine start-stop function (114) based on said distance travelled and said maximum speed.
7. The method as claimed in claim 6, wherein said at least one engine start-stop function (114) is selected from a group comprising modifying a set idle time of said engine, disabling engine start-stop function (114) and enabling engine start-stop function (114).
8. The method as claimed in claim 6, wherein said step of executing any one engine start-stop function (114) is performed with reference to a look-up table (112) stored in a memory element.
9. The method as claimed in claim 6, wherein said step of executing any one engine start-stop function (114) is further decided based on at least one parameter selected from group comprising a throttle position, an engine speed, a clutch status and a gear position.
10. The method as claimed in claim 6, wherein an engine start after an engine stop is enabled only after detecting a clutch status and a throttle position above a threshold position.
