, Description:Field of the invention
[0001] The present invention relates a logo illumination system. More specifically, the present invention describes about an illumination device for illuminating and displaying a logo in multicolor.
RGB- Red Green Blue
LGP- Light Guiding Plate
LED- Light Emitting Diode
Background of the invention
[0002] The logo illumination in a display device is done by using primary colours such as RGB colours emitted from an LED unit. This limits the device condition monitoring through multicolour logo illumination. The logo illumination from top position is not appreciated because it spreads light in radial direction and also hot spot is prominent at the source position. For proper diffusion of top illuminated LED light, the thickness of diffuser kept in between the light source and display should be increased and that increases the overall thickness of the display device. But still the hotspot cannot be completely eliminated. Further, the intensity of light from the LED decreases from the light source making the homogenous illumination of logo impossible.
[0003] Also, effective generation of secondary colour with the combination of primary colour decreases when the light is dispersed radially from centre of the source. Usually, the LEDs are arranged on a top portion which may increase the thickness of the device and this also reduces the safety of the device.
[0004] Hence, there is a need to provide a display device which provide a proper homogenous diffusion of light which overcomes few or all of the drawbacks of the illumination device.

[0024] The present invention is to provide an illumination device for illuminating and displaying a logo. The device reduces spreading of light in radial direction and eliminate the formation of hotspot at the source position. Further, there is reduced thickness for the device. Furthermore, the device generate a secondary colour from combination of primary colours. The device also, illuminate logo uniformly or homogenously throughout the logo display panel. The present invention is easy to operate and maintain.
[0025] The disclosed embodiments are merely exemplary of the invention, which may be embodied in various forms.
[0026] Referring now to figures 1, 2 and 3, various view of an illumination device 100 in accordance with the present invention is illustrated. The illumination device, herein after referred as device 100 is for illuminating and displaying a logo from at least one light source configured within. It may be obvious to a person skilled in an art to configure multiple light source on the side of the light guide plate 30 or logo display panel 50. In the present embodiment, the light source is an LED light source, hereinafter referred as LED 10. Further, the device 100 is provided with a first diffuser sheet 20, a light guide plate 30, a second diffuser sheet 40 and a logo display panel 50 for displaying the illuminated logo.
[0027] In the present embodiment, the LED 10 is arranged on a side portion of the device 100 and configured below the logo display panel 50. This arrangement of the LED 10 reduces the thickness of the device 100. The LED 10 emits primary colours such as red, green and blue. It may be obvious to a person skilled in the art to configure the LED 10 in any other side which may be on a back side to the logo display panel 50.
[0028] In this embodiment, the first diffuser sheet 20 is arranged in front of the LED 10 such that the emitted light from the LED 10 may pass through the first diffuser sheet 20. The diffuser sheet is arranged in a plane varied by a predefined distance from the LED 10, thereby eliminating the hotspot creation by the LED 10 light. The first diffuser sheet 20 allows efficient mixing of primary colours to produce secondary colours as shown in figure 4. The first diffuser sheet 20 disperse the primary colours to secondary colours and emits light uniformly across the logo display panel 50. Further, the first diffuser sheet 20 allows the light to emit in uniform intensity for better visibility of logo in the display panel. In this embodiment, the first diffuser sheet 20 is a thicker sheet which allows the primary colours to pass through. The first diffuser sheet may also be place or pasted or created on an acrylic sheet for maximum diffusion of primary colours to form homogeneous secondary colour.
[0029] In another embodiment, as shown in figure 4 and 5, a transparent sheet 22 is configured in between the LED 10 and the first diffuser sheet 20. The transparent sheet 22 may be an acrylic sheet with reflective coating. The reflective coating on the transparent sheet 22 is coated except in the direction of propagation of light, so that the reflected light from the first diffuser sheet 20 may reflect back to the first diffuser sheet 20 for minimizing the loss of light during dispersion. The reflecting coating is provided on the transparent sheet 22 for minimization of power loss thereby maximizing the output from the LED 10 light. In this embodiment, the first diffuser sheet 20 is of minimum thickness and the transparent sheet 22 is of thicker size comparative to the first diffuser sheet 20.
[0030] In the present embodiment, the light guiding plate is configured on a rear side of the logo display panel 50. Each sides of the light guide plate 30 is coated with a reflective coating 54 to reflect the maximum possible light toward the logo display panel 50 or the reflective coating may be a separate component pasted rear side of the light guide plate. Also, the light guide plate 30 is provided with reflectors such as laser engraved micro prisms or micro dots matrix, which is attached or separate to reflect the produced secondary colours towards the logo display panel 50. The second diffuser sheet 40 is arranged between the light guide plate 30 and the logo display panel 50. The second diffuser sheet 40 eliminate the visibility of the surface texture or patterns of the light guide plate and allows distribution of the secondary colours uniformly along the logo display panel 50. In the present embodiment, the logo is placed above the second diffuser plate so that the logo can be illuminated in the logo display panel 50.
[0031] Further in the present embodiment, a back reflector 32 is arranged on a rear side of the light guide plate 30 to reflect the maximum light towards the logo display panel 50. The back reflector 32 prevents the dispersion of light away from the light guide plate 30 and reflect the dispersed light towards the logo display panel 50 thereby increasing light efficiency.
[0032] Further referring to figure 3, a spacer 52 is arranged between the logo display panel 50 and the second diffuser sheet 40. The spacer 52 fills the gap between the logo display panel 50 and the second diffuser sheet 40.In the present embodiment the thickness of the illumination device is lesser than the logo illumination panel.
[0033] The advantages of the present invention is to provide an illumination device for illuminating and displaying a logo. The device avoid spreading of light in radial direction and eliminates the formation of hotspot at the source position. Further, the device is of reduced thickness making it user friendly. The device also illuminates logo uniformly or homogenously throughout the logo display panel. The present system is easy to operate and maintain.
