PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION:
The following specification particularly describes the invention and the manner in which it is to be performed:

FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to the field of product labels and packaging. More particularly, it relates to an inimitable product label with multi-level security features for product authentication by consumer and brand owner using unique variable data security features to ensure anti-counterfeiting of genuine branded products.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The product labels play an important role in product authentication for protecting the brand and its value. The product labels help in product authentication by enabling the customers to verify the authenticity of the product belonging to particular genuine brands in order to protect the trust of the customers as well as saving the reputation of the brand, thus avoiding brand erosion. If the product authentication using product labels was not available to the people, then various inferior counterfeit products can clear as the genuine item and it can also cause a direct loss of sales by selling the counterfeit products.
The poor quality or performance of the counterfeit products can result in various problems such as a rise in unsatisfied consumers and complaints, which will result in negative publicity of the genuine brands. Moreover, the counterfeit products may also result in harmful health concerns. For instance, a machinery malfunction or a poor consumable goods may produce adverse side effects that can cause significant physical damage as well as harmful health side effects. Thus, the genuine brands have to face negative publicity, which can deteriorate the reputation of the genuine brand through the widespread adoption of social media, where negative reviews of products can go viral across the country and even cross borders.
The product authentication methods using product labels can be broadly categorized into two categories. The first category of product authentication through product labels consists of a physical authentication and the second category of product authentication through product labels consists of combining the physical authentication with digital verification. The physical authentication methods, which are available worldwide includes labels, foils and stripes in the form of optical variable devices, tamper evident labels, various seals including RFID tags and system, security inks, security paper and a plurality of hidden images. Some of the examples of the physical authentication devices linked with digital verification are encrypted security QR codes with mobile verification interfaces and track and trace solutions. Although, certain level of product labels for product authentication are available in the present scenario, but these product labels for product authentication so available still face problems related to counterfeiting of the genuine products as the physical and digital verification of product labels can be reproduced using various replication techniques.
US8917159B2 describes value to brand owners, retailers, and consumers through the use of radio frequency identification, stenography, nanolithography, fingerprints, novel heuristic threat evaluation, indication, and detection model. Additionally, using cryptography, tag passwords are formulated and identities are reversibly flipped, thus allowing item identities to remain secret to unauthorized observers. This unique combination of heuristics and authentication technologies provides an efficient means of finding and stopping the flow of counterfeit products throughout global supply chains. The invention includes radio frequency identification (RFID) tags, encoders, servers, identity changers, and authenticity verifiers to make this task a viable and adaptive weapon against the elusive counterfeiters. The present end-to-end RFID system offers unprecedented security for retailers and consumers, while remaining efficient and scalable. However, it fails to provide a label to ease the product authentication for consumer and brand owner and the label which cannot be copied and cloned.
US6025780A described an electronic security system, which uses a set of predefined RFID tags. Each tag is associated with, and attached to, an article or packaging for an article. Each tag includes unique tag information which is logged into a computerized database that contains a record for each of the tags in the set. A detection zone is monitored with an interrogator which detects RFID tags. When an RFID tag is detected, the database records are compared to the tag information and an appropriate database response is output. A deactivation event may be performed on the tag when legitimate access is obtained to the tagged article. The deactivation event may be electronic, physical or virtual. One type of RFID tag used in the system may physically deactivated by altering the state of a circuit element associated with the tag so that the tag cannot return a response signal. Another type of RFID tag used in the system has electronically alterable tag information. The interrogator includes circuitry for detecting the electronic alteration and causing an appropriate response therefrom without requiring any communication with a database of tags. However, it fails to provide a label to ease the product authentication for consumer and brand owner and the label which cannot be easily copied and cloned.
Therefore, there exists a need to provide a product label for product authentication with multi-level security features, which is inimitable and enables multiple level security feature authentications.
OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
The main object of the present invention is to provide an inimitable product label with multi-level security features, which helps in product authentication by consumer and brand owner using distinctive variable data security feature.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an inimitable product label with multi-level security features for product authentication by consumer and brand owner using distinctive variable data security feature which is read using proprietary reader.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide an inimitable product label with multi-level security features which uses different print parameter and inks resulting in combined variable layer which is unique for each product and comprises of customer ID and product ID resulting in series of product and generation of random dot requires a proprietary generation tool for replication, thereby reducing the chances of counterfeit of the label.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide an inimitable product label with multi-level security features in which the security feature data are generated using unique data generation which generates unique data for each security features by using one data and verifying other data to ensure one more level security.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide an inimitable product label with multi-level security features in which the unique data is generated in such a way that it is complex to predict the next data.

Referring to Figure 1, a perspective view of the inimitable product label with multi-level security features is depicted. The inimitable product label (100) comprises of a variable code (1), a proprietary barcode (2), a visible code (3) and a hidden code (4).
The variable code (1) is created by a variable code data that is generated by a seed generator unit in which a specific customer code is encoded, printed by an offset printer and correspondingly a specific product code is encoded which is printed by an inkjet printer with a shift ink on said inimitable product label (100).
The variable code (1) is a combination of two features, i.e., ink specific feature and a digital code, the ink specific feature reacts or changes its property when exposed to a pre-determined wavelength of light and the digital code is encrypted by a placement protocol which is indistinguishable by bare eyes. Upon combination of these two features a non-clone able security feature is achieved, which further includes unique product specific IDs and brand/customer specific IDs.
The specific customer code include customer ID and is related to unique customer or brand data and specific product code include product ID and is related to unique product data that are distinguished from each other as one of said IDs is printed using shift ink and in inkjet printer and other one of said IDs is printed using an offset printer. These ink and encrypted data are read through a proprietary device. Since IDs are printed using inkjet printer over the layer of offset print data, combined result is completely random and impossible to distinguish, as both layer are of black colour ink for bare eyes. Apart from the proprietary device any other UV, Taggant, readers are unable to identify the data encoded in variable code (1).
Further, as both layers have different print parameter and inks also result of combined layer is variable, and it is impossible for the counterfeiter to produce the next series of product and to generate random dots.
The proprietary barcode (2) is created by a proprietary barcode data that is generated by a first alphanumeric generator unit that combines an overt and a covert data to form a product specific data that is printed by an inkjet printer on said inimitable product label (100) for authenticating validity of a product.
The proprietary barcode (2) is a two-dimensional barcode, which has an overt and a covert data. The overt data is read by any conventional barcode reading unit, however for reading the covert data, the proprietary reader is used. The proprietary barcode (2) includes a product specific data which is divided and encoded in the overt data and covert data. For authentication, both overt and covert data are combined which forms the product specific data. Also, the product specific data is used to retrieve a visual code from a database which is then used to verify with the visible code (3) printed on the inimitable product label (100).
The visible code (3) is created by a visible code data that is generated by a second alphanumeric generator unit and is notably an encrypted text which is printed by said inkjet printer on said inimitable product label (100) and visible code (3) is verified via a visual code that is retrieved from said database by said product specific data. The hidden code (4) is a proprietary code, which has hidden code data that is generated by a random number generator unit and is printed by an inkjet printer underneath a scratch off portion on said inimitable product label (100) that holds said product specific data and is authenticated by one-time scanning by a scanning unit. The scanning unit used herein in preferable a mobile scanner.
The hidden code (4) is a proprietary code, which is printed underneath a scratch off portion. The hidden code (4) holds the product specific data which is generated via the data generation unit, this data is encoded to get the hidden code. The hidden code (4) is printed on the label (100) and authenticated by said scanning unit. The hidden code (4) is one-time scanning barcode which is scanned only once and in case same product is scanned, then a notification is sent to the consumer.
Further, the printers include but not limited to inkjet and offset printer or any other type of printer available in the prior art.
Additionally, the generator units provides unique data for each product which is generated in such a way that it is complex to predict the next product data. By using one security feature data verifying with other security feature data of the inimitable product label (100) to ensure one more level security.
Referring to Figure 2, a block diagram of working of the data generation module is depicted. The data generation module provides an additional security for product authenticity as for one security feature data, the other security feature data is validated to cross verify whether it has arrived from same generation technique or not. The data generation module generates the data for variable code (1), a proprietary barcode (2), a visible code (3) and a hidden code (4). Further, the generator units are embodied in the data generator module.
Further, the seed generator unit embodied in said data generator module produces an initial seed that is encoded in the variable code (1). The unique random number is generated via random number generator using a linear congruential generator technique which is encoded in the hidden code (4).
Next a product serial code, a batch code and a security code are extracted from database and merged with the random number to generate a unique product identifier which is encrypted to get alphanumeric unique data encoded in proprietary barcode (2) and an alphanumeric unique data encoded as the visible code (3) via the first and second alphanumeric generators respectively. The visible code data and said proprietary barcode data are an alphanumeric unique data.
Referring to Figure 3, a flow chart of generation of security feature in the inimitable product label according to an embodiment of the present invention is depicted. The database is linked with the data generation module and for generating the variable code (1), data related to customer ID is encoded using a random dot placement protocol and the resultant image which is further printed using an offset printer. Similarly, data about product ID is encoded through a micro dot placement protocol and the micro dots resultant image which is printed using an inkjet printer with a shift ink. Both the printing is done one over the other, which makes the data related to customer ID and product ID distinguishable under different lighting conditions.
The data for producing the proprietary barcode (2) is read from the database and that data is encoded to generate an image using a proprietary barcode generator. The resultant image is then printed using an inkjet printer. For producing the hidden code (4), a data is initially read from the database to generate a hidden code image using a hidden code generator and that image is printed using the inkjet printer. For producing the visible code (3), a data is initially read from the database and that data is in encrypted text format and the text is printed using an inkjet printer.
The product is authenticated by scanning the inimitable product label (100) with multi-level security features that is pasted on the product. The scanning is done by a mobile scanner which is accessed by the consumer and the inspector.
Referring to Figure 4, a flow chart of customer authentication process is depicted. The inimitable product label is authenticated by a customer through the method that comprises the steps of a) capturing an image of said inimitable product label that is affixed on said product via said mobile scanner that is accessed by customer for manual verification, b) scanning and verifying said proprietary barcode by matching said overt and convert data stored in said database for verifying an authenticity of said product, and in case the overt and convert data matches with the overt and convert data stored in the database, then the proprietary barcode is successfully verified and in case said data does not matches, then the proprietary barcode is unsuccessfully verified, c) scanning and verifying said visible code by matching said visual code printed on the inimitable product label, upon successful verification of said proprietary barcode, in case the visible code matches with said visual code printed on the inimitable product label then its successful verification or else unsuccessful verification, and d) scraping said hidden code having said scratch off portion for scanning purpose and informing said customer in case said hidden code is already scanned, upon successful verification of said visible code. All the data present in the codes and the label (100) is stored into a central monitoring system which is managed by admins or any other concerned authority and all the instructions including invalid transactions are stored and monitored through the central monitoring system.
Referring to Figure 5, a flow chart of inspector or brand owner authentication process is depicted. The inimitable product label is authenticated by an inspector through the method that include steps of, a) capturing an image of said inimitable product label via a proprietary device that is connected to said mobile scanner, b) decoding and verifying said variable code by authenticating said specific customer code and upon successful verification of said variable code switching said proprietor device to a shift ink detection mode, c) verifying said shift ink to detect whether said product is original or not and upon successful verification of said shift ink, decoding specific product code, d) verifying said specific product code with a specific product code stored in a database and in case of successful verification of said specific product code, displaying a product authentication information. In addition, the method terminates upon unsuccessful verification of specific customer code, specific product code and shift ink. The product authentication information includes but not limited to time, scan time, geographical scan location and additional details related to said product.
The present invention provides a product label (100) for product authentication by consumer and brand owner having random visible dots image printed as the first layer using offset printer and micro dots image printed over the first layer using an inkjet printer, which provides the combined result that is completely random and is unable to be distinguished as both the print layers are black for bare eyes, the product label (100) unable to be identified easily as only the proprietary reader is able to identify the variable data printed on the product label (100). The product label (100) is unable to be copied easily as both layers have different print parameter and inks made up of combined layer is variable, which makes it difficult for the counterfeiter to produce the next series of product as the random dot is unable to be generated without proprietary generation unit. In addition to authenticating the original the security feature includes the encoded product specific information which is then decoded and compared against saved database.
Therefore, the present invention provides a product label for product authentication by consumer and brand owner using unique variable data security feature that includes multiple layers, which uses different print parameter and inks resulting in combined variable layer forming a series of product and generates random dot, which can only be produced by using the proprietary generation software.
