, Description:TECHNICAL FIELD OF INVENTION
[0001] The present disclosure relates to the field of an article support assembly for a vehicle interior. More particularly, the present disclosure relates to an article support assembly which can improve convenience in use by dividing a storage compartment into individual sections for storing and supporting the articles therein.
BACKGROUND FOR THE INVENTION
[0002] In conventional vehicles, an article support assembly comprises movable dividers in a storage compartment are well known. However, known dividers do not provide a better customization option according to the outer dimension of the articles(s) such as a cup or a mobile etc. to meet the needs of a passenger(s) of a vehicle interior.
[0003] In addition, in the existing article support assembly, the dividers are difficult to be kept in the desired orientation inside of the storage compartment. The dividers might rotate, flip or fall inside the storage compartment, which will require the passenger of the vehicle to again lift and position the dividers in the desired orientation every time. Conventional dividers do not poss the inherent structural capability to keep them in the same desired orientation inside the storage compartment. These dividers require additional components or mechanisms to keep them in the same orientation, thereby making the existing article support assembly complex and difficult for passengers to use.
[0004] Further, the existing article support assembly requires multiple dividers to form multiple sections based on the number and dimension of the articles to be stored and supported therein. The existing article support assembly fails to provide a simple mechanism which can easily and efficiently form a required number of sections in the storage compartment without requiring the addition or removal of dividers from the storage compartment.
[0005] Therefore, there is a need to overcome the above drawback(s) and provide an improved storage divider system for an article support assembly which provides improved customize options to the passenger(s) of the vehicle interior.

[0028] The following is a detailed description of embodiments of the disclosure depicted in the accompanying drawings. The disclosed embodiments are merely exemplary of the invention, which may be embodied in various forms. The embodiments are in such detail as to clearly communicate the disclosure. However, the amount of detail offered is not intended to limit the anticipated variations of embodiments; on the contrary, the intention is to cover all modifications, equivalents, and alternatives falling within the spirit and scope of the present disclosure as defined by the appended claims.
[0029] The present disclosure relates to an article support assembly for a vehicle interior which improves convenience in use by dividing a storage compartment into individual sections as per the size, shape, and the number of the article(s) to be stored in the vehicle interior.
[0030] Referring now to figures 1, according to an embodiment, the proposed article support assembly (1000) for a vehicle interior is illustrated. The article support assembly (1000) can comprise a sidewall (100) and a bottom (200) defining a storage compartment (101). A first substantially u-shaped divider (110), and a second substantially u-shaped divider (120) are movably configured inside the storage compartment (101) such that at least a portion of the first substantially u-shaped divider (110) and/or the second substantially u-shaped divider ( 120) are independently or dependently movable inside the storage compartment (101) for dividing the storage compartment (101) into one or more individual section(s) (14) for supporting article(s) therein.
[0031] In an embodiment as illustrated in fig 1, 2 and 3A-3B, each of the first and the second substantially u-shaped divider (110, 120) has an arm (110-1, 120-1) with two legs (110-2 and 110-3, 120-2 and 120-3) extending substantially perpendicularly from the arm (110-1, 120-1). More particularly, the arm (110-1, 120-1) of the first and/or the second u-shaped divider (110, 120) is extending substantially perpendicular to the bottom (200) of the storage compartment (101). Further, the first and the second substantially u-shaped dividers (110, 120) are arranged in an inverted or reserved orientation from each other inside the storage compartment (101) such that one of the legs (110-3, 120-2) of the first and the second substantially u-shaped divider (110, 120) is arranged in between the other legs (120-2 and 120-3, 110-2 and 110-3) of the second and the first u-shaped divider (120, 110), respectively.
[0032] In an embodiment as illustrated in fig 3A and 3B, the individual section(s) (14) are configured by a combination of one of the leg (110-2 or 110-3) of the first substantially u-shaped divider (110) and one of the leg (120-2 or 120-3) of the substantially second u-shaped divider (120) as shown in fig 3A or by a combination of a sidewall portion (100’) of the storage compartment (101) and one of the leg (110-2, 120-3) of the substantially first or the second u-shaped divider (110, 120), wherein the sidewall portion (100’) is substantially parallel to the leg(s) (110-2, 120-3) of the first and second u-shaped divider (110, 120) as shown in fig 3B.
[0033] FIG. 3A illustrates a configuration, one section 14-1 sized and shaped to hold a coffee cup, and a second section 14-2 sized and shaped to hold a water bottle as desired by the passenger(s) of the vehicle interior.
[0034] FIG. 3B illustrates yet another configuration including a first section 14-1, a second section 14-2, and a third section 14-3 that are sized and shaped to hold a drinking bottle or cup therein, and two additional storage sections 14-4 and 14-5 for holding substantially any other article like a book or a mobile as desired by the passenger(s) of the vehicle interior. These different configurations allow the storage compartment (101) to be divided into substantially any configuration of sections 14-1 to 14-5.
[0035] Again, referring to figure 3B, the arm (110-1, 120-1) along with the legs (110-2 and 110-3, 120-2 and 120-3) of the first and/or the second substantially u-shaped divider (110, 120) are/is moving parallelly close or away from the arm (120-1, 110-1) of the second and/or the first substantially u-shaped divider (110, 120) for configuring the individual sections (14) inside the storage compartment (101) for supporting the article(s) therein.
[0036] In another configuration (not shown), if required, both the first and/or the second substantially u-shaped divider (110, 120) can be removed from the storage compartment (101) to form a single bigger section (14) to store a single article.
[0037] Figure 4 illustrates a second embodiment of the proposed invention, as shown the first and the second u-shaped divider (110, 120) are arranged in an inverted or reserved manner inside the storage compartment (101) such that one of the legs (110-3, 120-2) of the first and the second substantially u-shaped divider (110, 120) is arranged in between the other legs (120-2 and 120-3, 110-2 and 110-3) of the second and the first u-shaped divider (120, 110) respectively. In which at least one of the legs (110-2 or 110-3, 120-2 or 120-3) of the first or second u-shaped divider (110, 120) is movable towards or away from each other for configuring the individual section(s) (14) inside the storage compartment (101) for supporting the article(s) therein.
[0038] In an embodiment, the first and the second substantially u-shaped dividers (110, 120) are manually driven by a passenger of the vehicle interior.
[0039] In another embodiment as shown in figure 5, the first and the second substantially u-shaped dividers (110, 120) are electronically driven by a transmission unit (50) arranged in the vehicle interior. The transmission unit (50) has a pinion gear (51) configured with the first substantially u-shaped divider (110), and/or second substantially u-shaped divider (110). The pinion gear (51) is operatively coupled with and driven by an electric motor (52). The arm (110-1, 120-1) of the first and/or the second substantially u-shaped divider (110, 120) has a rack gear (53) adapted to move by the pinion gear (51) when the electric motor (52) of the transmission unit (50) is actuated by a passenger of the vehicle interior.
[0040] Further, the transmission unit (50) may be operatively coupled to a controller, and a camera (not shown) which receipts a set of images of the article(s) to automatically move the first and/or the second substantially u-shaped divider (110, 120) in the desired position inside the storage compartment (101) according to the size and shape of the article(s). The camera is configured to capture the set of images of the articles as well as the proposed assembly in real-time inside the storage compartment (101), and correspondingly transmits the captured images to the controller. The controller is configured to extract one or more attributes comprising shape, size, and numbers of the articles from the received images, and further determine the position and orientation of the first and/or the second substantially u-shaped divider (110, 120) inside the storage compartment (101) using the received images, and correspondingly enables the transmission unit (50) to automatically move the first and/or the second substantially u-shaped divider (110, 120) in the desired position inside the storage compartment (101) to form the sections (14), so that the passenger can store and support the articles in the formed sections (14).
[0041] The proposed invention provides an advantage of storing and supporting article(s) such as an electronic device including mobile phone, tablet, and display device, and non-electronic articles including display board, mirror, book, and the likes, in a vehicle interior by dividing a storage compartment of the vehicle interior according to the size and shape of the article(s) manually or automatically.
[0042] It is to be appreciated by a person skilled in the art that the substantially u-shape of the first and second dividers (110, 120) of the present invention provides them with an inherent structural advancement over existing dividers, as the legs of the substantially u-shape of the first and second dividers (110, 120) keep them in the same orientation inside the storage compartment (101), and also restricts angular rotation or falling of the first and second dividers (110, 120) inside the storage compartment (101). In addition, the present invention is easily configurable to form up to 5 sections inside the storage compartment (101) without requiring addition of any additional divider, thereby allowing storage and supporting of up to 5 articles therein.
[0043] The term “substantially” used in the present disclosure has a well defined dictionary meaning of “very much, greatly, and to an extent”. In context to the first substantially u-shaped divider (110) and/or the second substantially u-shaped divider (120) of the present inveniton, the dividers (110, 120) have a u-shaped structure having two legs extending perpendicularly in a same direction from two opposite ends of an arm of the divider (110, 120).
[0044] While the foregoing describes various embodiments of the invention, other and further embodiments of the invention may be devised without departing from the basic scope thereof. The scope of the invention is determined by the claims that follow. The invention is not limited to the described embodiments, versions or examples, which are included to enable a person having ordinary skill in the art to make and use the invention when combined with information and knowledge available to the person having ordinary skill in the art.
