Biopolymer And Paper Based Packaging Laminate

Abstract: BIOPOLYMER AND PAPER BASED PACKAGING LAMINATE The present invention discloses packaging composite or laminate which is paper-based, biodegradable and compostable in nature. The composite or laminate is only made up of biodegradable substances, substantially free of plasticizers, synthetic polymers and petroleum-based compounds, comprising an inner biopolymer layer having a thickness of about 20 microns to about 50 microns; a tie layer coating a sealant, the tie layer comprising an adhesive having a thickness of about 0.5 microns to about 2 microns; a middle metallized layer having a thickness of about 2 microns to about 5 microns; and an outer printable layer having a thickness of about 0.5 micron to about 3 microns deposited on outer sides of a paper substrate. The flexible barrier composite or laminate of the invention exhibits excellent barrier properties with WVTR ~ 5 at 50% RH and 23℃. The seal strength of >4 N/25mm is useful for enclosing FMCG such as but not limited to food, shampoo, conditioner, detergent powder, skin lotion, shave lotion, liquid soap and bar soap.
